Seems like a good deal at the moment - although you will get the 990 Pro for similar price on the Samsung Education Store if you have an account. FREE International delivery with Amazon Prime.

Got this for a much higher price recently and was reviewing my orders when I noticed it - maybe time to claim for Price Protection on my Credit Card.

  • Damn. Just bought a WD Black NVme drive.
    Would have prefered this one.

Expensive compared to the 990 pro pre-order.

    • Yeah but it's the Samsung store. Expect to never get it or get it but it'll be 3 - 6 months later.

Is it really that bad? I've bought stuff off there before and had no issues… interesting to know 🤔

$80 cheaper if you don't have access to the Samsung edu store. And it's not like the performance difference between a 980 and a 990 is going to make a real world difference to 99% people outside of data migration - and even then it's not a huge difference.

  • wait till black friday, hopefully there's better deal, i bought western digital sn850, unfortunately, it died after 4 months

    • Did you get the warranty claim then?

      • I returned it to Amazon, but give me pause buying another WD ssd

Waiting for black Friday deals before pulling the trigger on a 2TB one

    • Same here

      • just sharing the 2TB 990 is no loger avalable on Samsung Edu store. All you can do is get notified when in stock. I assume the allocation for pre order got consumed…..

  • Kingston KC3000's better than 980s (more longevity, higher write speeds, lower $/TB)?

    • +2

Make sure you check the review for the 1TB version. Please don't use the 2TB version's results. Phison E18 SSDs are known to be better optimised for 2TB. So at 1TB, while those SSDs still have SLC cache benefit, sustained write after SLC cache is depleted does suffer. It's also why they tend not to beat SN850 1TB.

Another difference is Kingston's warranty is via the retailer, so how well your retailer does warranty service (for 5 years) does matter, whereas Samsung, you could opt for direct Samsung RMO process (which can be tedious, but sometimes you could get a better replacement SSD back).

I think KC3000 2TB performance is impressive, but 1TB… it is still quite good, just doesn't feel like in the same league as the 2TB one.
