70mai A800s Dashcam for $171.50 delivered as part of eBay's early Black Friday sales. eBay Plus membership required.

Pretty good value for a 4k Dash cam considering the Viofo A129 Pro Duo is currently around $319 on Amazon. From what I can see, the 70mai has a battery rather than a super capacitor which may affect longevity and performance in the Australian summer due to the heat. However the battery seems to be a 14500 500mah cell and and may be replaceable with some tinkering. I would personally still prefer the viofo due to my own past experience but I've bit the bullet on this one and see how it goes.

  • I was actually looking at this one, is this better than Viofo A119 or A129? Thanks.

    I think this isn’t a super deal

  • Is this the cheapest price?

  • From the specs this looks like their best model.. Keen on getting a decent DashCam..
Any idea where this can be installed without voiding the warranty in Melbourne.. Thanks

  • I have bought the A500 + RC06 bundle for $139 from these guys a couple of days ago after the same bundle from amazon was cancelled by the seller after the purchase. There is not a big difference in terms of picture quality between the two. Just another option to consider.

  • Which SoC does this have?

  • Will this required a hardwire kit for parking mode recording? Anyone DIY installed this before ?

FWIW I have had a Viofo A119S (supercapacitor) in my car for 6ish years now with 5 of those years being parked in the blazing western sydney sun all day and it has only missed a beat after a mechanic tampered with it during a service. Havent even had an issue with the SD card and its done over 100,000kms.

every model of camera I have used with a battery has failed within a year. ("mini" brand, streeguardian, other much older crappier cameras)

Viofos have custom firmware available too that can push the bitrate higher, gets them on part with GoPro footage.

I had someone hit me in the carpark last week and drive off without leaving a note, while my cheap 70mai from a previous deal sits in my garage. Paying my excess as well as its effect on my no claim bonus later…a bit late, but I might as well go down this path once and for all.

  • Does it do recording in 60fps?

I have this installed on our and friends cars. A few things to note:
    - picture quality is great, clear both in day and night time
    - rather easy to install, will need hardwire kit for parking mode (you can have these run on cigarettes port too but parking mode won't work)
    - parking mode is useless (it takes a few seconds from the moment of impact to the dashcam actually recording)
    - you should turn off "emergency recording" option as these "emergency video" won't be deleted automatically and after awhile it just takes all the memory on the card
    - all of them still going strong for us after almost 2 years

    • set the G force threshold for emergency video higher.

I have stiff suspension in my car and I dont have issues unless i hit a decent pot hole.

    • Isn't the idea with parking mode that it records all the time and buffers the last minute or so? It's useless if an impact just begins recording at some later point.

Few videos shows the new A800S is worse than the old discontinued A800 and even the cheaper models.

    • Older models have a tendency to break and stop charging after a few months. If you are in a hotter climate get a capacitor model and stay away from these battery cheapies
