CentreCom Warehouse & Stores Clearance - Buy 1 Get 1 Free Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet? ($399)

Am I reading this right?
Buy 1 Get 1 Free Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet for $399 across all stores?
They've highlighted as a "LAST CHANCE" sale so I'm assuming stock will be very low.

Also, "MICROSOFT 3000 MOBILE MOUSE AFTER CASH BACK $0"

They're the only noticeable bargains in the PDF.

The old bait and switch. only had 8 units at sunshine so only 4 customers got them, went yesterday after calling, they said couldn't sell but will have enough at the sale, was fifth in line

I'm not happy with the way centrecom handled this deal.

Went into the store yesterday to pickup the tablets I was promised over the phone.
The salesman Matt told me he would hold onto them for me for pickup today.

Went in to look for him and he told me they ran out of stock.
To get me out of his face he told me to go over to the warehouse again as he heard another pallet just got sent in.

Over at the warehouse next door they had signs all over the place saying they were out of stock. Asked the guy if a pallet just came in and he said "no".

P.S. I've lost my confidence in centrecom and will never be building my PC through them again

just bought 1(2) from Frankston store, they are shipping them to Adelaide for me. Win!

    • They deliver? I thought it was only in-store now.

    • Tried Frankston just now, sold out

      • yeah, i just rang up and they said they could deliver store stock to me. Sweet!

Hawthorn sold out. I was in the queue thinking, why on earth would you drag your mum to go buy a computer part with you. Then this family of 5 proceeded to buy 1 pair each!

    • And it's F*** wits like this that ruin bargains for the rest of us!

I would put the blame more on Centrecom. They really seemed to have mismanaged this deal.

The flyer was created stating the deal starts on the 29th but the online sales department released it before the 29th. As the flyer was created beforehand they should of made sure there was enough stock to go around for the warehouse sale.

Not sure how OzB etiquette goes but I've revoked my vote and put a neg vote against the centrecom reps comments.

P.S. I know my next PC build will never be through them again

    • It wasn't Broden and his family was it? :P

  • If anyone has a spare in Sydney please send me a PM

  • My unit says it is model 183823M.
I think has 3G cos has a slot for a sim card.

    • It might be a blank. It's not uncommon for the same housing to be shared across different models of the same product line.

      • All thinkpad tablets have the sim slot. The wifi version are missing the 3G module.

    • Does it have GPS?

      • It does have GPS

  • Saw this on Gumtree, posted only 9 hour ago. Wouldn't be surprised if the seller bought one of these twin packs and is selling off the spare one for a $50 premium.

    • thats mean!!!
      where's the love???…
      …speaking of… any love coming my way?… i'm representing perth :)

pls send me an email @gmail if anyone is keen?… i'll be able to reply fast as lightening!!! ;)

    • Here's another for $250.

I like the part how they say "Not gaining any profit on it". Some people are such comedians <cough cough> :P

  • Yeah it seems a little unfair to state the sale starts on the 29th but sell it online earlier.
I had the intention of going in to get one but didn't bother after seeing how many places had sold out (for some reason it didn't occur to me I could have just bought it online (silly me!)).

The frustration is rational as you've wasted time trying to hunt these down and seeing a family walk out with 2 tablets each is just excessive.

The upside is, this is just the beginning of the price of tablets dropping.
I'm personally not upset about missing out this deal because this is old (and ridiculously heavy) tech (yes, the SoC and weight matter to me).

  • Hey,

Anyone wanna take one off my hand? With the kitchenaid promotion going on at the same time, i found out that i am too poor to afford both..

    • I like it how he says "Lenovo Price: $439" when in fact this is the Lenovo price for the 64GB model. Shifty!

Would like to hear the impressions of those that bought these.
    How do you like them?
    Mini review?

  • 25 people in line, only 4 sets at Clayton …could have slept in … For some bizarre reason the manager was taking photos of the lucky customers with their tablets … Kinda like 'in your face losers'

  • Anyone in Melbourne want to get rid of one PM me, im around Franga.

  • Anyone in Brisbane, if you'd like to get rid of one just PM me :)

  • Got it yesterday thanks to infekted. Surprisingly chunky and heavy. Performance is nothing special. I like full sized usb and full sized sd card slot.

I originally thought the digitizer was just a stylus, its not. It is an active pressure sensitive device with a button like the likes you see on graphic tablets for pc. 10in graphic tablet will set you back more than the cost of this tablet. So thr digitizer alone is worth it.

  • I still haven't got mine yet. TNT fked up the delivery…its taking longer then Auspost! dammit…

  • Happy I just got mine…LOVE IT…now need to root it.

  • Got mine today, very happy with it! Will be perfect for work, say goodbye old school notebook! Thank you Centre Com.

Ordered over the phone on Friday morning from Bendigo, turned up yesterday. Prompted for ICS update and installed straight after I turned it on. Seems to run sweet.

If you're interested in a faster charger then over micro-USB, there's the dock (+65W PSU). Lenovo AU have them for $39 inc. delivery, which is $30 less than I've seen anywhere else.

    http://shopap.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/auweb/Leno…

The keyboard case is only $60 too, but that seemed overkill for me.

[EDIT] you can do better if you sign up first - the welcome email contains a one off 10% discount code, so you could get the dock + keyboard case for $90, if you were so inclined…. look for the 'Join Those who do' link

    • meh so much for that…

comes with preinstalled WWAN antenna and could be upgradable to 3G.

Currently I think antenna kit from other Lenovo laptops/tablets do not compatible with 1838/1839. And do not sold by Lenovo separately from TPT's back cover. May be I'm wrong.

      • … and if you ever wondered why Apple's creaming all other PC manufacturers for margins, that ridiculously long list of models, of what is not a very popular product, is telling. cf iPad: what, 7 total?

        • Apple sells a lifestyle and image more than they sell computer equipment.

    • Yeah was wondering about this, and which modems are supported; that Gobi can be had for $70 on eBay, and there's an Ericsson too (F5521GW) that can be had for a similar price; both are NextG compatible. It doesn't look that hard to do, but I'm not quite ready to pull mine to bits.
