How much is that? About 20% off? Don’t shop at coles often so not familiar with flybuys

    • +2

10% off, slightly less if you calculate it based on $ spent.

Still, a good deal especially since you can combine it with discounted Coles-Myer GC.

      • +1

Which one's the coles-myer gc deal?

      • if you calculate it based on $ spent

        Care to expand?

        • +25

Let’s imagine you purchase $2,000 in Apple gift cards through this deal.

You have to pay the full face value amount (i.e. $2,000), but if you scan your Flybuys card, your Flybuys account will be credited with a total of 40,000 Flybuys points.

If you choose to convert your 40,000 Flybuys points into Flybuys Dollars, you will receive $200 in Flybuys Dollars, which is redeemable at a number of retailers.

However, to get the full benefit of the $200 in Flybuys Dollars, you will need to redeem it.1 Therefore, the calculation some people use is:

Percentage discount = (1 - ((amount spent) / (amount received in Apple gift cards and Flybuys Dollars))) * 100

Plugging in the numbers in the example gives…

          (1 - (2000 / (2000 + 200))) * 100 = 9.090909%

Conversely, some people consider the $200 in Flybuys Dollars as equivalent to cash, as they are going to spend at a business accepting Flybuys Dollars anyway, so they see instead see it as an upfront discount (which would make the percentage 10% instead).

Personally, I stick to the line I always tell people:

You will have 10% of the gift card’s face value returned to you in the form of Flybuys points.

Obviously, any percentages and calculations I have done above go out the window if:

          1. Think about it this way: if you converted your 40,000 Flybuys points into $200 in Flybuys Dollars and then your Flybuys account was shut down before you had a chance to redeem the $200 in Flybuys Dollars, could you really argue you received a 10% discount on the purchase of the Apple gift cards?

          • -2

@WookieMonster: Well said.. and correct me if i am wrong but you can use the $200 FLYBUY dollars to buy another $200 apple gift card.. so that surly works out to 10%… or be in 10% bonus apple Giftcard?

            • +2

@Chiraag: Pretty sure you cannot use FlyBuy dollars to buy another Apple Gift Card. You could use it on your groceries, but that's about it.

              • +1

@t25: He can buy but no fly buy point for that

              • @t25: You can use FB dollars to buy GC at KMart but you obviously won't earn bonus FB points through this mechanism.

            • @Chiraag: Just use the $200 worth of Flybuy 'cash' for your regular shopping at Coles and the real 'cash' that you would have used on shopping can go towards buying an extra gift card.

            • @Chiraag: If you attempt to purchase a gift card at Coles using Flybuys Dollars as a payment method, you should get an Invalid Product Mix error message on the EFTPOS terminal.

It has happened to me a few times now, so I don't bother trying to purchase a gift card using Flybuys Dollars at Coles anymore.

      • can you buy apple gift cards with coles-myers gift card?

Any discounted coles-myers gift card on sale?

        • +4

I don’t think coles allow you to buy gift cards with a cokes gift card.

      • dont think they allow you to buy gift cards with gift cards, tried this once at woolies and their system wouldn't sell it to me

idk if any different at coles but i'd imagine not

    • +2

More like 10% returned to you in FlyBuy dollars.

  • So at best 10% back as shop credit?

    • +1

that's it. best you'll get on apple products these days.

      • Incorrect because there's an upcoming 10% off Ultimate cards @ ALDI sale, and there will likely be 15% off TCN cards, both for use at JB (can buy Apple cards from JB too).

        • I did not know you can use TCN gift cards at jbhifi to buy apple gift cards

          • +1

@georgegates5: You can because they're not JB gift cards, they can be swiped at the terminal as though they're a debit card restricted to some stores.

            • @Techie4066: Sure. You can also have a rebate on your credit card, or some type of cash back, or found $50 lying on the ground. All these things would make it less out of pocket. But I haven’t seen apple gift cards for less than 10% off for quite a while and don’t think we will. Would you you to point out otherwise because that would be a great bargain.

              • @financialminimalism: Might want to read my replies again. They've been effectively 15% off all week.

                • @Techie4066: Apple gift cards haven’t been any more than 10% off

                  • @financialminimalism: Read my replies properly. Then check the front page of OzBargain right now.

                    • -1

@Techie4066: I'm aware you can stack offers together (as I said above, you can also stack with credit card offers too), but also kindly read my post that you cannot find Apple Gift Cards for more than 10% off. Unless you want to provide a link otherwise?

                      • @financialminimalism: There's no stacking involved. Buy the appropriate Ultimate Gift card from AusPost tomorrow, then walk into JB, pick up some Apple GCs, swipe your Ultimates - boom, 15% off! Tell me how that's stacking mate?

                        • -1

@Techie4066: It's stacking because you're taking one offer and applying it to another, you just said you needed to walk into two different stores to buy something. I.e. you're buying a gift card from one retailer to buy a gift card at another retailer, it's not getting the Apple GC for 10% off directly, you're doing it by applying another offer.

                          • +1

@financialminimalism: That's not stacking dude. There's no offer on Apple GCs at JB (& you're also buying the Ultimates online). Think it through. And what are you doing on OzBargain only chasing face-value discounts.

      • There are occasional 10% off sales (rather than the 20x points offers) but other than a risky hack (e.g. the suggestion above of using TCN cards at JB to by Apple Gift Cards), it's the best you are likely going to get.

        • +3

I’d hardly call buying Apple Gift Cards at JB Hi-Fi “risky”. I’ve done it countless times without even hiding the fact that I’m using TCN or Ultimate cards to pay and no one has ever cared.

      • +1

+refurbished store or education store (or even EPP or AOC programs depends on eligibility)
Sometimes better deal than retailers while you can make engraving or CTO orders.

  • How many cards can you use in apple AOC site

    • +2

Add them to your AppleID balance and you can use up to $4999.

      • Can i use AppleID balance for apple pay?

        • +1

          negative

          • @financialminimalism: Not really…
Online, no. The online channel ONLY allow credit card payment (yeah, only CC, nothing else like Apple Store Online)
In store, you can use Apple Gift Cards (physical or digital one, not account balance, I leant the hard way) as many as you want. However in store they'll sight your device before allowing you to purchase Apple Care+

            • @xmagic: Sorry how can you use Apple ID balance for Apple Pay??? You’ve outlined how you can use a gift card to buy Apple Care + unless I’m mistaken, not what the person was asking

              • @financialminimalism: You use GIFT CARDs to purchase AC+ in store. NOT Apple account balance. It has to be in the form of an Apple Gift Card redemption code.

The Apple retail store process all payments via EasyPay (their iPhone-based POS system) and AC+ in store is no exception. That’s why you can use gift card. Once the gift card become account balance, no. However there is a way to revert balance back to the gift card. However it’s very hard to do so and requires a lot of call with iTunes team. I heard other people did it but I gave up after two calls.

    • +5

You can redeem up to 8 Apple gift cards in one online transaction (including on the Apple On Campus site you refer to).

You can add Apple gift cards to get around this restriction for Apple’s online stores (as suggested above), but keep in mind:

      • Adding an Apple gift card’s balance to an Apple Account Associated Balance is not reversible.

      • You cannot redeem an Apple Account Associated Balance at a physical Apple Store (at least not yet in Australia).

    • whats this got to do with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

  • any hint for wooli upcoming promo?

    • I’m trying to work out if this deal is better or the Woolies/QFF ones

      • Hint! Hint! Hint! I can do the hard work (comparison) for u : )

    • Due to their legal department we will only know on Monday. Unless some other sites release it early.

    • 10x reward points on selected Visa cards.

      Aldi wins this week.

      • +1

Isn't Aldi promo the week after next week?

  • Are Apple GC like Google Play GC?

    • +4

No, these won’t work on android devices.
You’re welcome, saved you some money. /s

      • Hahahaha nah man

I mean what can you use apple gift cards for?

I know google play can use for subscriptions and apps.. I just don't use Apple but curious

        • +1

These cards can be used to buy (1.) Apple devices, (2.) apps and subscriptions from app store and (3.) books and movies from respective stores.

          • @kc7: Can they be used to pay for Apple repairs?

        • -2

used to be able to partly pay for an ipad, but i think they changed the rules.

  • +11

Hopefully Coles doesn’t take 14 business days to credit the points like an unnamed competitor of theirs 👀🤔

    • I bought my iPhone 13 pro max last year by this method. Fly buy points will come around 2,3 days.

    • disney+?

      • +1

Yes, you can use to pay for Disney+ only if you purchased it via the Apple App Store. If you subscribed direct to Disney+ and linked your Apple device later it won’t work. It’s the same for most streaming services - at various times I’ve subbed to D+, Netflix, Stan, Binge, and Prime directly from the Apple TV and been able to use the credit applied to my Apple account. That’s why I always loved the 15-20% off iTunes cards we used to see, but they’re sadly no more. ;-(

    • Flybuys is usually pretty reliable. You usually see bonus points for gift card purchases in your account by the evening the day after your purchase.

  • Can the coles mastercards be used to purchase these?

    • -4

No the mastercards are locked for use at any store but Coles /s

      • -1

What, really? now coles mastercard can only be used at coles? are you kidding me?

    • +1

Yes you can since the Coles mc gc aren't actually issued by Coles

  • While I do not have preference in any supermarkets, I prefer to have Flybuys dollars rather than Everyday Woolworths dollars because it is more secure. You can disable the $10 auto prompt redemption (which do not require PIN) and then transfer Flybuys points to Flybuys dollars (which requires PIN to redeem)

    • +1

Yes it’s been in the news lately that people have had their woollies reward dollars stolen. I had mine stolen just before Easter at a Woolies in Victoria. I’m in another state . Eventually refunded, but took over a month.

And I reported it immediately when the purchase notification came up. The old card number was cancelled and new number was given

About two weeks later. I received an email saying there was an unsuccessful attempt to log into my Woolies Rewards. I guess they were trying again

      • +1

        uh oh thats wilde

        flavour of the year

  • +2

Flybuys is much better than Everyday rewards dollars.

The points appear the next business day and you don’t have to wait 14 business days like at Woolies and then chase it up.

I still don’t have the bonus points for a $500 I bought in the last woolies promo.

    • Same here.

Should we call woolies or keep waiting?

      • Just got 10k points for the variable $500 card I bought.

        Shows up as manual credit.

        • Just checked and I’ve just got the points too. Finally

  • Stop buying these people! There is always too much demand for Apple Gift Cards and Supermarkets stopped offering 30x rewards points and I'm afraid they might drop the bonus rate to 15x if the demand continues!

    • +3

I'm convinced the 30x was a one time offer when the Apple Gift Card was first introduced, because it hasn't happened again. I don't think people snapping up 20x offers is to blame here. Plus offers like this might mean the difference between someone going to Woolies or Coles for their larger grocery shops, so there will always be an incentive to offer these bonuses.

      • +1

We had 30x offers in August, September and October 2021 but the demand was so high supermarkets dropped the rate to 20x after that. If the demand continues like this, we’ll unlikely see 30x offers ever again.

        • They might even try to drop the current 20x to 15x if strong demand continues.

  • +5

I bought a a lots of GC from WW and still awaiting the points :(

  • +2

Sweet, I can finally pay off the ATO debt that they've been chasing me about.

    • There is always one

  • has there recently been a deal for 10% off apple gift cards? at coles, woollies or elsewhere?

    • This current deal can be consider the equivalent of 10% off Apple Gift cards. I actually don't mind this sort of deal as it lets me just use up an entire $250 Coles Mastercard amount in one hit and I do not need to worry about any leftover amounts on it (ie 10% left).

  • +1

Can these gift cards be used in apple stores to pay for repairs like iphone battery replacements?

    • Yup. (I used to work there)

  • Looking to grab the new iphone 14 for 1399 and I have never done this before. Do I just head to the service desk and ask for $1400 in vouchers or do you grab like 7 x $200 vouchers off the shelf or something? Cheers.

    • +2

Easiest way is to buy 3 of the variable gift cards, put $500 on 2 of them and $399 on the third one. The gift cards are usually on the end of an aisle opposite the registers but there may be an additional standalone stand floating around the store too. Take them to the register (ideally use the ones attached to the service desk) and tell them how much money you want to put on each card. You want to buy the minimum amount of cards possible because there is a maximum limit of 5 for this promotion.

      • +1

        Cheers mate appreciate it

  • +1

Does anyone know if I buy an iphone 14 pro using the apple account balance if I will get a receipt listing the product and amount spent. Wanting to claim as a tax expense aswell and can only order it online due to low stock numbers.

    • +2

Yes you do, and even better the receipt says "Credit Card" and has nothing on it about gift cards or Apple ID balance.

  • I only use them for Netflix, iCloud etc discount.

  • +5

be careful when you get the gift card
I was just at coles, and bought 300$ apple gift card, after payment the 200$ got declined to active by apple
upon checking the card was opened, someone probably took the pic of the code want try to redeem it once it got sold in store
lucky I found out on the spot, so I went to get a new card to get it replaced, I checked at the stall 5 or more cards at the front all been opened

    • Yikes!

I gotta admit this is my nightmare. I can just imagine when you try to explain to the counter that they just think you're trying to rip them off.

I will definitely try check for open cards.

    • Thanks for sharing your experience!
One would never imagine this would happen so it will really hurt the victims!
Coles should do a much better job in safeguarding these

  • these cards go off so fast! I went to Coles at noon and the shelves are already empty!

    • depends where you are. I just went to grab some and there were plenty left.

  • So…..i skipped the woolies deal for the ultimate gift cards because hearing so many ppl aren't getting their bonus points. I took the chance on this deal given that my goal is to buy an apple product. Is flybuy points generally given without having to chase up?

    • +2

Yes, generally by the end of next day.

      • +1

not in my account. It is advertised in their weekly catalogue so i assume it is for everyone with a flybuys card.

  • +2

Can report happily that yesterday morning around 7:30am I purchased several of the variable cards, was able to load them into my apple account same day with no issues.

Have also just received the full flybuys points from the promo. I was a total idiot when I purchased them from a self serve check out as I forgot to scan my flybuys card but was able to take my card plus receipt to the service desk to get the number added.

In the last hour the flybuys points have also appeared on my account. Very happy and good experience unlike some of the not so great stories from others.

  • Can these be used with the Apple shopping event later this month?

    • +1

There's an Apple shopping event? Anyway yes you can, online and in store.

      • +1

If you click the link to Apple in this deal it will take you to the sale event page. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/737657

25th to 28th November. I think everything is listed out on the page, there is no real secret reveal like the days at the top might suggest.
