Equates to 10% back in flybuys points dollars equivalent. 'Gift' gift cards, which include eBay, are unfortunately not included.

    • Bummer, GIFT is what I want.

    • They had 10% off the Gift gift cards (18000 points for $100) about 2 months ago I think! It is likely to come around again

  • Wow, good deal if you've got em banked up.

  • nice

  • +2

This is the equivalent rate as redeeming them for supermarket dollars right? But with an additional 10% back as points. Making it possibly the best value way to redeem your Flybuys.

  • Which ones are the “select brands”?

    • +4

Him, Her, Kids, Active, Love, Shop, Dad, Teen, Baby, AFL, NRL, Pub & Bar, Good Food, Restaurant, Pamper and Cinema.

  • +1

how long it will take to receive the bonus points?

    • By 9th November according to the email they just sent me

      • I didn’t get any email that I received the bonus points ?

        • You don't get the bonus points straight away. From past experience, I found with these Flybuy gift card promotions the bonus points are credited in a few weeks time.

"Each Flybuys account can receive a maximum of 20,000 bonus points under this bonus points offer. Points will be credited to qualifying members’ accounts no later than 4 weeks after the promotion end period."

Also, you won't get an email for getting bonus points. Never received emails to notify me I've received bonus points for any Flybuys promotions. Can check your Flybuys account manually or can check the weekly Flybuys emails which says how many points you have at the bottom of the email.

  • also can use the points + pay option… if you don't have enough points (but have some) it's also a good option

  • Unable to put delivery address. The website is not allowing to enter address manually. Has anyone experienced it before ?

  • +1

Is this worth it to redeem the points?

    • +3

If you plan on purchasing something from the eligible stores, yeah it's a free 10% off.

    • +3

Not for me.. I would only redeem for a Coles card

  • Any idea on how long this promotion will run for?

    • +1

If post is accurate, 12th October.

    • +1

Email says: between Thu 29 Sep (AEST) and Wed 12 Oct 2022 (AEDT).

Great deal, but I can’t stand The Card Network gift cards. Bought some as a gift and didn’t realise I had to activate it before giving it to them. Was such a pain.

    • +2

Did you bought from flybuys or from Coles?
I bought from Coles on previous deal and it got activated upon checkout.

      • Oh that’s probably why it was via Flybuys.

        • +2

That's probably to protect the card while in mail.

          • @OzBestDeal: Good point thanks, I just had no idea I had to activate before giving it out as a gift. Even the activation process was painful.

            • +2

@bobwokeup: It probably wasn’t as painful as having a gift card go missing in the mail.

A few years ago, I ordered a $100 Coles gift card from the Flybuys Rewards Store, but it never showed up. There was no tracking number provided, because the letter with the gift card enclosed was not tracked. In those days, you also did not have to activate a gift card sent in the mail before you could use it. I had a hard time convincing Flybuys to cancel the original $100 Coles gift card and send me a replacement, but I got the replacement gift card in the end after some emails and a couple of phone calls.

I don’t bother with Flybuys Rewards Store redemptions anymore, partly because of that ordeal. I know that these gift cards are sent unactivated, but I prefer to redeem my Flybuys points for Flybuys Dollars anyway, as it is less hassle and less waiting around, plus it has been a while since I used a TCN gift card…

              • @WookieMonster: Second above
Just a quick one, can we use flybuy dollars as payment method to purchase gift card instore? Thanks

                • +1

@li1123k: At Coles, no. You should get an Invalid Product Mix error as soon as you swipe the Flybuys card on the EFTPOS terminal.

At Target and Kmart, you should be able to.

                  • +3

@WookieMonster: yes can vouch for Kmart working, used FB$ to purchase Coles Myer group, then used that at Coles to buy Bunnings gift card, make sure to select card and swipe COLES-Myer

                    • @yikes914: Nice! Good workaround to use FB dollars to get a Coles Myer gift card. Thanks for confirming 😃

        • can you elaborate? i redeemed a bunch last time and left them in the drawer. do i just scratch the back or do i have to go online and do something?

          • @alamodey: You have to go online to activate it and from memory you have to enter a bit of information too.

  • Any limit on how many cards will net you bonus points?

    • +2

Email says: Each Flybuys account can receive a maximum of 20,000 bonus points under this bonus points offer.

      • Thanks for pointing this out

  • +3

Be careful with these cards with some vendors. I bought a $50 one discounted at Christmas to try and save a few dollars on a Ripcurl rashie for my husband and their pathetic website only allowed all cash or all card payment - so I couldn’t use my $50 card because the rashie was $59 or something. I’ve still got the gift card in my wallet waiting for a reason to use it at another one of the shops listed..

    • 2022 and still this types of limits

  • How often do flybuys have these promos? Do they ever have them on the Bunnings or Officeworks giftcards? I recently received a whole heap of bonus points from a credit card offer.

    • +1

I did a quick search on OzBargain and it looks like this is the fourth deal this year on the Flybuys Rewards Store this year for selected TCN gift cards.

I have never seen a bonus points promotion on the Bunnings or Officeworks gift cards on the Flybuys Rewards Store.

      • +1

Thanks for your help. Do flybuys ever have discounts on the flybuys dollars redemptions?

        • I don’t recall any within the past three or four years.

  • Restaurant Gift Card

Any idea what constitutes a restaurant?
It doesn't list them like other cards.

Are our standard fast food (with dine in) ones an option?

    • +1

I had this card declined at Subway and a chinese takeaway shop. Other than that it works a treat, even at maccas, kfc, and food courts.

      • Oh yeah I forgot the Cinema card was rejected for me at Hoyts.

      • Great, thank you.
I'll be trying at Guzman & Mad Mex etc.

tl;dr you can redeem the Restaurant gift card at merchants using specific merchant category codes (MCCs).

Clause 3 of the Restaurant gift card terms and conditions states:

The Restaurant Gift Card works at venues that have designated the merchant category code Eating Places, Restaurants or Drinking Places. The card is not valid at will not work at venues outside of these merchant category codes . Specifically the card is not valid at venues that are designated by their merchant category code as Fast food or quick service restaurants. Gift cards are still subject to individual merchant acceptance and in accordance with these Terms & Conditions and any applicable law and subject always to the individual trading terms of each participating merchant.

The terms and conditions are slightly misleading, as an MCC for Eating Places, Restaurants or Drinking Places does not exist. However, it is supposed to refer to two MCCs:

      • 5812: Eating Places, Restaurants
      • 5813: Bars, Cocktail Lounges, Discotheques, Nightclubs, and Taverns— Drinking Places (Alcoholic Beverages)

If you are not aware, an MCC is used to generally describe the type of merchant you are at. It is embedded into the transaction information that a card issuer would receive when determining whether to accept or reject a transaction request on your card (in this case, the Restaurant gift card). The MCC is assigned to the merchant by the financial institution or company supplying the EFTPOS facilities (or online payment systems), so the MCC is something that staff at a merchant generally would not know about if you asked them.

The best way you will find out whether a Restaurant gift card (or other type of merchant-restricted card) works somewhere is by attempting to redeem it. There is no reliable public repository of merchants and MCCs that I can point to that will indicate whether a Restaurant gift card will work there. Btw, don’t ask a merchant whether they will accept a Restaurant gift card, because they may tell you no for no real reason other than they do not recognise the gift card. You don’t want to be like this person and get ridiculed in the forums…

Also, be prepared for some merchants being assigned MCCs you may not expect. One time, I went to a cafe with a friend of mine who had one of these gift cards. However, when they went to attempt payment, the card was being declined every time. They eventually paid using a regular card, and when they contacted the issuer of the regular card, they said that the MCC for the transaction was 5462 (Bakeries). I think the cafe we went to used to be a bakery, but the business shifted to being a cafe, but their EFTPOS terminals were not updated to reflect this shift. (I’ll be honest and say this is not a common occurrence, but it can happen from time to time.)

In terms of Fast Food Restaurants, those should be assigned a different MCC (5814) that is not officially permitted on the Restaurant gift card. However, you will see some anecdotes where the Restaurant gift card will sometimes work at fast food restaurants, so YMMV.

Oh epic reply, thank you for the fine details which I'd missed.

Funny that @OzBestDeal has still had it work at McDs & KFC.
Worth a try for sure then at Guzman & Mad Mex etc.

  • One of my orders just came up with a "something went wrong error" and now the points have disappeared and there's nothing my order or transaction history - has this ever happened to anyone else?

    • +1

Not this but was buying 4 x $100 TCN gift cards on one of the 10% off offers and one of them failed. Money got changed but no card. Thought it would be as simple as chatting with support since there were 4 transactions but nop. Had to do a chargeback in the end. Have points banked and deal looks good but not dealing with these jokers again

    • I'm getting this error as well but my points are still there - was this resolved for you?

      • +1

Yep all good for me, I checked the next day and my order appeared although my points were taken when I placed the order. Perhaps clear your cache and/or try again later.

        • +1

          thanks!

  • Does anyone know if there is a limit to redeeming these gift cards with JB HiFi? Wanting to purchase an iPhone so will need about 15-17 $100 cards.

    • +1

It depends if you’re going to redeem them instore or online.

      • Instore: there appears to be no limit to the number or dollar value of TCN gift cards that can be redeemed in one transaction. If you were not aware, the OzBargain record is 81.

      • Online: strictly speaking, it is zero, because you cannot redeem any physical TCN gift cards online. Physical TCN gift cards (such as the one in this deal) operate on the EFTPOS network, which cannot support card-not-present transactions (e.g. online transactions). However, you can exchange a TCN gift card (with JB Hi-Fi as a participating retailer) for a digital JB Hi-Fi gift card through the TCN website. To do this, you will need to go to the TCN webpage for the gift card you have (e.g. HER, HIM), go to the How to Use section and follow the steps in that section to have the JB Hi-Fi gift card emailed to you. Someone recently redeemed 26 JB Hi-Fi gift cards online in one transaction, so you should be fine redeeming 17 JB Hi-Fi gift cards yourself.

    • Thinking of purchasing the new iPhone as well. Is JB the best place to get it?

  • Does Restaurant GC covers Nando's ?

  • +1

For Restaurant GC, it does not seem there is a points + pay option. Also I don't think there is an option to be emailed, but the physical card will be delivered.

  • -1

Are these physical gift card which will be mailed to you or will be emailed?

    • +1

      physical

  • anyone know how long these take to get shipped out?

    • +1

Took couple of weeks to arrive few months ago

    • On the Checkout screen, it says:
"You can expect to receive this reward within 3 weeks of being redeemed. Flybuys will endeavour to deliver rewards within the stated time frames, but this may not always be possible. If your reward is not received within the above time frame, please call the Flybuys Service Centre on 13 1116 and we can follow up for you. "

  • Is the restaurant gift card a broader category than the pub and bar?

  • +1

I received my Ultimate Him cards in the postal run today, but no bonus flybuys point yet. When bonus flybuys points will be credited?

    • hi, when did you please the order?
      I haven't received mine yet and I suspect it's stolen. there's a crack in my mailbox…

      • Hi, I ordered on Friday 30.09.2022 and received cards on 18.10.2022. Please check with Flybuys for status.

        • Thank you. I ordered on 12.10.2022, so I guess I should wait for another week then

        • Now bonus points received.

    • I ordered on 5.10.2022, got the cards a couple of weeks after, but no bonus points neither until now. Kindly post when u get yours credited

  • +1

waiting for bonus points as well.

  • +1

    Nothing for me either

  • No bonus points yet but got the gift card

  • I think we should be receiving Flybuys points by now, but I still haven't got anything…

  • Has anyone been able to receive the bonus 1000 points yet? Any ideas when we can expect it?

    • Not received bonus points as of now.

      • Seems like we've all been had.

        • +2

I will raise the concern to Flybuys if still not receive the bonus points next week.

    • +2

No points yet after 5 weeks. Called flybuys and I was told points will be added in 5-10 business days.

  • +1

    Nup no points either

  • Flybuys has been absolutely terrible lately. I've had to email, membership on practically every transaction or bonus offer. Points never showing up.

They might reply weeks later, and delaute emails telling me they'll be in the account in 48 hrs, they're still not there.

  • +3

Today is 9/11, still no sign of bonus points, quite disappointing for this promotion.

    • +1

Yes, I followed up a few times with no reply yet

      • Bonus points came in today, but not yet for the Disney promotion

    • Bonus points finally came in today when I checked.

Was checking every week and was pissed like everyone else here.

      • I haven't got the bonus points yet but it could be because they haven't gotten to me yet.

When did you purchase your gift cards?

        • In my transactions it said I did it on 30th September, but Im not sure if it was that exact date since it was so long ago. Probably was.

        • Checked today and noticed I got mine for 30th Sept and 1st Oct gift card purchases.

  • Rudest customer service, when I mentioned these points are missing they abruptly ended the call. Also missing points from the disney plus promotion.

No response to my email as well, disappointing and a waste of time.

  • Do we have to contact Flybuys to get the bonus points?

      • +1

I just checked today and the points have finally arrived, the bonus points shows the same date as the order so I'm not sure when it arrived, should be within the last week. Just for your reference my order date is 6-Oct.

        • Thanks for the info, that brought me to check the date of order. And yes, got it too on the 5-Oct

  • I bought $100 Restaurant Gift Card and just found out it has 0 balance on it. Now I have to call them, what a pain! Not going to buy again.

    • Just wondering did you activate the gift card before using? Maybe check the card balance to see when it was given the balance and when the balance was used.

      • Hi thanks, I sorted it out. I did not know the card needs to be activated, hence the balance was zero. After activation, it worked fine.
