Apple iPad Pro 11" (3rd Gen) 256GB Wi-Fi (Space Grey) $1,199 ($150 off) + Shipping ($0 C&C) @ JB Hi-Fi

450

Last year's Ipad Pro on discount.

The 256GB is the best priced currently IMO.

Personally, I don't think the extra cost for this year's M2 version is worth it.

It is out of stock at OFFICEWORKS and AMAZON AU. Many other places still selling at or close to the original price.

BTW, use the perk to get $10 off.

Don't know if Cashrewards and such also work but worth to give it a try.

  • thats a big boi

    • +2

      Not even the biggest boi

      • +1

Well coming from someone who hasn't own an ipad bigger than the mini, this is a pretty big boio.

        • +3

played with a mini at the apple store last week - its hella nice if you dont need the screen real estate. so nice to hold 1 hand.

          • +2

@Jimothy Wongingtons: Thats true, however if doing some school work or such its a pain, still works great though and easier to carry so can't complain too much.

          • +2

@Jimothy Wongingtons: It's really the only thing that works in an aircraft cockpit that's short on space. This M1 11" is excellent, got a 128GB cellular refurb for $896 with eBay coupon last week.

    • I have one, yes it's too big, I far prefer the size of my previous iPad Pro 9.7"

  • Would need more than $160 off, got near that 3 months ago.

    • +1

RRP increased for the new models due to weak aud.

  • +2

The new Pro has hover for the Apple Pencil. I don't think hover is necessary for graphic artists, but it is something that is a standard feature on even cheap graphics tablets.

    • +11

Even my paper notebook and bic pen has this feature, it called shadow

      • +1

You just tried the above with your own pen and paper didn't you ;-)

The description on the JB site says 3rd gen, but the 3rd gen is not the M1

    • +3

      3rd gen for 11” and 5th gen for 12.9” have M1.

      • Thanks

    • do you happen to be talking about the 12.9" ver?

  • +1

seems like last years ipad pro 12.9 128gb is on sale too at JB

  • A few questions please:
Is this the cheapest it's been?
Is it likely to get cheaper on black Friday? (based on previous years' experience)
Does the wifi versions have iMessage?

    • +1

I check JB-HIFI last year's Black Friday catalog and Ipads weren't on it. So it is your call to wait or not. Amazon and office works are selling at the same discounted price though both are out of stock. I think Bing Lee was selling it at an even lower price when the M2 version came out though also no more stocks.

      • Thanks for the detailed answer.

    • Yes, just tried with mine and iMessage is there. However, I don't own an iPhone so I can only say it is there, is it working though? I think so.

    • The WiFi versions do have iMessage, but in my case it didn't load messages prior to syncing the iPad to my number/iCloud contact credentials. I haven't felt the need to fiddle around with it to try and get them there at this stage.

      • Thank you

  • This sale has been going for like a week.

Unfortunately the silver 256gb version isnt on sale, only the space grey. I tried online chat but they wouldn’t budge.

    • Yea I don't get it when one colour is on sale while the other isn't.

      • Maybe they have extra stock

      • Some colors sell better than the others.

  • I asked a mate who works at Apple for family and friends. He said the deals will be better on Black Friday. Fingers crossed.

    • +1

can they also submit a note on my behalf into the suggestion box to apple HQ that an apple foldable phablet device would be swell?

      • -1

Great, a new outlet for Apple's price gouging passions. $3K for a foldable?

  • It is a tablet and nothing more, certainly not a laptop replacement in my opinion, no freedom outside of App Store, handicapped by iPadOS. Good if you need something bigger than your phone but try not to expect anything more, likely to be disappointed. Very unlikely Apple going to change anything to make it more productive, hard to give up revenue generated by locking up to App Store.

MS Surface might be a better choice if looking for laptop replacement.

    • +6

Not everyone is looking for a laptop replacement. I use my iPad Pro alongside my iPad. When I'm using my laptop, the iPad works as a high quality (1668x2224) second monitor for my laptop. When I need a smaller device to sit in the living room with, the iPad with my Smart Keyboard Folio is excellent to type on.

Good if you need something bigger than your phone but try not to expect anything more, likely to be disappointed.

This is so misleading. Clearly you've never used an iPad, or wasn't willing to do a little research and learn what they're capable of. They're excellent devices, and work perfect alongside a laptop. I've owned iPads since 2011. Owned the iPad 1, iPad 2, iPad Mini 1, iPad Air 1, iPad 5th gen, and currently I'm using my iPad Pro 10.5". The 120Hz screen on this 5 year old iPad is still excellent, and is more than enough for years to come. It's still receiving timely updates (being an Apple product), and it's an excellent experience even after 5 years.

      • -7

Clearly you've never used an iPad, or wasn't willing to do a little research and learn what they're capable of.

Don’t assume my friend, don’t assume.

        • +3

Your entire comment was an assumption.

"Very unlikely Apple going to change anything to make it more productive"
          "likely to be disappointed"
"no freedom outside of App Store"

I revoked my downvote while typing my previous comment because I figured you simply might not know what an iPad can be used for. I made my attempt to inform anyone reading through this thread, and clear any confusion. Your vague response hasn't clarified yourself one bit, and you decide to downvote my comment too?

My "assumption" was based off your blatantly clueless claims. If you're trying to make out that you've owned an iPad before, it's honestly even more disappointing if you've owned one, and are still going to tell people they are "likely to be disappointed" if they buy one. There's a reason why iPads are so popular, and it's clear you aren't within the target market… Just don't assume that others reading aren't too.

          • +2

@Zackeroo: My apologies, didn’t realize that stating the obvious such as

It is a tablet and nothing more, certainly not a laptop replacement

            was prohibited on Ozb.

I understand some finds it a useful tablet, me too, although a bit heavy holding it up.
The inclusion of M1 processor might caused people to think, hey, I might get this instead of a laptop, which was what I did and ended up disappointed. Again, not because of it being a tablet, but because I’ve incorrectly assumed what it could be. It is a good tablet, kind of like a big screen iPhone, great display and good audio.

My comment was simply if someone was thinking about a laptop replacement, perhaps better look elsewhere. Don’t think adding accessories will help, I have my iPad hooked to Logitech keyboard folio, even to my Thunderbolt dock. Honestly a capable tablet but still, it is not a laptop replacement.

            • @[Deactivated]: Didn't mean to make it look that way, but glad you clarified yourself here. Looks like you didn't follow your own advice and assumed the iPad was a laptop replacement without researching what an iPad is really for.

On the contrary, makes complete sense that you'd want to warn others who could be in the same situation as you… Could just have been worded better instead of making a general statement saying the iPad is nothing more than a big phone, and that anyone looking for anything else will be disappointed.

          • +2

@Zackeroo: To be fair, your use case of the iPad seems to mostly be as a "second screen". If that's not the case, please elaborate. I don't own a Macbook, but I might be interested in this if it's useful.

            • @DontNeedThis: You can literally drag files from the macbook screen to the ipad and vice versa.

            • +2

@DontNeedThis: No worries, I'm glad you asked :)

I own a Zephyrus G14 and while it's an excellent laptop in terms of performance, it's a little bit too chunky to carry around. I run my own business + use my devices for University work. I do a lot of typing and bought the Apple Smart Keyboard Folio for the iPad Pro 10.5". Picked it up from a local CeX for only $30 I think it was.

The best way to put it is that the iPad is perfect when you need a device that can multitask, but find it too much to bring a 1.7kg laptop along. Every now and then, I head off to a shopping centre or to meet up with family. Often, I know I need to reply back to a couple emails throughout the day. It's a personal preference thing here but I can't stand typing on a phone for long periods of time. In these situations, I slip the iPad into my bag and open it up when I need to type on it. The Smart Keyboard Folio is honestly the highlight of the iPad for me, as I'm able to type ~180wpm on it due to it being a low-profile keyboard. Best thing is, the keyboard cover can be folded in different positions depending on how you want to use the iPad. The case is barely thicker than a normal Smart Cover too. It honestly feels like magic HAHA. The iPad Pro 10.5" weighs 469g and in comparison, the iPad Pro 11 here on this OzBargain post is 466g. Very similar experience here.

Once again, personal preference thing here but I can't stand big desktop keyboards. I've always typed on low-profile laptop keys, and my typing style has been adjusted to this. Oddly enough, the low-profile nature of the Smart Folio Keyboard is a perfect match for me, and while most people hate the low-profile Apple keyboards… I love it :) OH and FYI the keyboard has an entirety of keyboard combinations made for it. When you're using the iPad to browse Safari (which I do a lot), all the laptop commands you're used to can transfer over to the iPad. I won't list them, but I'm referring to opening a new tab, closing tabs, switching between tabs, searching for a word within a tab. It makes you feel like you're using a laptop… even though you're not.

I know I've talked a little bit much about the keyboard, but that's because it's the primary use for my iPad Pro. I'll quickly go over some other use cases that might be more common for whoever is reading this.

Researching before purchasing a new product — The iPad is absolutely excellent for this. It feels like it was made to do just this. iPadOS feels fluid and Apple's optimisation is excellent here. Everything feels snappier than it does on Windows, and that 120Hz display does wonders too. The mini-LED display on the new iPad Pro will be really good for bright situations too FYI. Definitely will get a lot brighter than your average laptop. You're able to enjoy iOS app optimisation too, so if you're buying something from eBay, and you can use the eBay app all on the iPad. In my opinion it's just a much more pleasant experience compared to bringing out a Windows laptop for this.

Note-taking / Organisation - This is a big one for a lot of people. The iPad being a touchscreen device has support for the Apple Pencil. The iPad is able to monitor the pressure, and while I haven't used the Apple Pencil, it's apparently "the most precise, accurate tablet stylus available, and an invaluable aid for artists and note-takers" - PCMag Australia. If you're into writing to-do lists and scheduling, the iPad works really well for this. I leave the iPad on my table opened up in typing form. It takes me 5 seconds to turn the iPad on and open up the notes app to add a few things on my mind to a to-do list. Much quicker than using a laptop, although arguably this could be done on a phone too.

I tried to cover everything I use the iPad for, although feel free to ask me any questions :)

And @kenjai is correct, you can drag files from the MacBook screen to the iPad when you're connected using Sidecar. I'm a Windows user though, so I use an app called Duet for my second screen experience.

              • @Zackeroo: You were so detailed in your answer that I feel guilty for asking the question. Thanks for the essay.

Your very last sentence was the most intriguing part for me, as I'm a windows user too. I thought what you said earlier about using your iPad as a second screen was exclusive to Macbooks. Does the drag-and-drop thing work for windows too? Is it possible to remotely interact with windows through the iPad's touch screen or is that too big of a dream?

                • @DontNeedThis: No worries! Glad I was able to help out.

Honestly, not sure if there's a drag and drop alternative for Windows. Would be neat if there is, but I usually use send anywhere when I'm transferring files between the two devices.

To answer your question, it is possible to interact with Windows through the iPad's touch screen. At least with Duet, you're able to use multi touch gestures on the iPad, as if you're using a touch screen windows device. It's quite useful if you're scrolling through a document for example.

            • @DontNeedThis: Sorry for the absolute essay of a reply LOL

Works for me as my to-go device along with my Windows tower PC. I don't understand why people hate on people making do with an iPad as a "laptop" when paired with an accessory like a magic keyboard for Office and desktop web browsing. Features like Stage Manager (adjustable windows + multitasking) make it a very convincing proposition, and the M1 chip makes it faster and more efficient than most dearer laptops. The added bonus for me is I have another use case - learning to fly, meaning I don't have to buy or lug around another device to serve all purposes. It's lighter and more compact meaning I'll be more productive.

Side note, this is my first Apple product in 6 years! I have an Android phone, WearOS watch and of course my Windows PC. Surface products are poorly made hot garbage.

      • It is personal freedom to use a product in whatever way they wanted (given that Apple allows it, lol). I do have a magic keyboard in the office to allow me to use the Ipad as another recording device without keep on switching screens or getting another monitor. I didn't like the magic keyboard folio and was unable to understand why people would like to bring extra weight with them. I would just open up the note app, pull the pencil out and start writing on the screen. But hey, if they liked typing and also bothered with the weight then why not?!
I just don't get these arguments when people state: if it is a tablet then you should use it as a tablet. Why do you bring a keyboard with a tablet? why don't you just get a laptop instead then?

        • +1

Why do you bring a keyboard with a tablet? why don't you just get a laptop instead then?

          1. Portability and flexibility with detachable keyboard
          2. Touchscreen (can feel more natural)
          3. Use cases - flying, doubles as an entertainment device
          4. Native stylus
          5. iPad apps > laptop web equivalents, and the simplicity of iPad apps > desktop apps can be nice
          6. Cameras
          7. 120Hz screen
          8. Longevity and quality
          9. Battery life
          10. More fluid and smoother to use - desktop OS feels archaic and like a beta test
          11. Resale value
          12. Range of accessories vs Windows laptops

Also, why not when you can now use a mouse or trackpad? Btw I have a Windows PC I can remote into whenever necessary and for serious at-home work. The iPad for me became a real contender with iPadOS and USB-C.

          • +1

@Techie4066: This is spot on. 120Hz touchscreen + OS fluidity + battery life + portability.

This is basically what I discussed in my essay reply above haha

            • +1

@Zackeroo: At least someone's on the same wavelength!!! Hahaha
              I couldn't revert to 60Hz.

              • +1

@Techie4066: Hahaha SAME!! There's a reason I bought my OnePlus 7 Pro when it back out back in March 2019. It was one of the first phones with a 90Hz display. I was in love lol.

Still got the phone now. Somehow 90Hz doesn't look very different from 120Hz. Seems to be a general understanding that the jump from 60 to 90 is vastly bigger than 90 to 120

                • +1

@Zackeroo: Oooh I definitely notice 90 vs 120. The Pixel 5 looked noticeably less responsive after my S20 FE. I’m now on an S22 and it makes all the difference. Honestly iPad is great (I use it way more than I would a laptop, and I’m someone who built my PC) and you just have to block out the people who constantly question your life choices ;)

Here’s my last points since I have something to add:
                  13. Easily replaceable keyboard/trackpad
                  14. Cellular connectivity + GPS

                  • @Techie4066: Yeaa I don't use those last two but they are useful regardless.

90 vs 120 seems to be more of an input sens feeling rather than how smooth everything looks. Anything over 60 is noticeable, even those 75Hz monitors are much better than the standard 60.

Did it expire? That was fast!

    • It’s been on sale for like a week.

      Other capacities still for sale.

      • On JB? They're not

        • Deal is back on

  • Damn! I think I missed it by not even a day. I was so ready to head in store today

      The deal is back on

  • Yes, this is still going, still plenty of stock around.

  • Looks like it is still $1199 today during Black Friday. Would we expect any further deals to come through the weekend?
