It should hold at least 2 cods
There are countless applications where 250GB is enough, or more than enough storage.
Including many many gaming PC applications, ie retro/emulation etc.
So it seems there's only 1 single use case where 250GB might be getting pretty tight and that's modern gaming PC. (Well let's make it 2 and say local media storage too).
Thus your non-recommendation is based on 1-2 use cases from a countless list, does that make your use case the "niche" one?
Can you please explain why 250gb is not enough. Not using it for gaming just a HTPC.
If you want to store lots of high bitrate 1080p/4K media on your HTPC, you'll need more than 250GB.
You could quite easily burn up 250GB with LOTR and The Hobbit alone…
However, 250GB is overkill for the OS drive in a HTPC, so there's that.
My NAS is currently running off a very cheap 120GB WD green ssd, and that disk will never come close to filling up.
niche use case
I put one in my Playstation 2 with an adapter off Aliexpress. Works great and it's silent / doesn't generate heat.
What are you talking about 250GB is great for a light OS case. Like obviously MOAW is more, and thus always better.
I have several PC's I run with only a 120GB / 128GB drive. Sure, you have to keep on top of storage space and probably juggle things more than you'd like, but 120GB is totally workable.
I'd recommend 250 as the minimum, 500GB is great.
As for space effecting performance it doesn't matter, for 99% of applications the different speeds of SSD make zero noticeable difference.
Drive longevity can be impacted by empty drive space, but for most people it will make no difference.
Why not just get this? https://amzn.asia/d/2PTPEk3
Correct! The amazing deal from a few days ago, the Kingston A400 240GB for $20.66 is back in stock.
samsung quality
i agree… at $50 you're better off buying a 2nd tier 500gb drive
i mean sata is such a deprecated technology
both this & that, TLC right ? or QLC ?
This would be the more reasonable choice for most people. The 870 evo 250GB doesn't make much sense at this price.
The A400 is DRAM-less, so not exactly same thing.
Came here to say this.
I do love Samsung for 'quality drives' but for a cheap boot drive frankly whatever is cheapest is what's best… 200-250GB is great. 500GB is better. 120GB is probably the minimum.
Nice find! Thanks OP, got 2
256 isn't enough tbh
Your honesty is actually a lie…
It is enough for an unfathomable amount of applications and that's not my opinion, that's a simple fact.
For linux system, I'm a liar
Perfect for the root partition
@kogi: That’s what she said
That would work to $208 for 1TB which isn't even near a bargain.
Just get this (if ur looking for 1TB and higher quality) + free shipping Samsung 870 QVOWhat if you only need say 20GB of SSD storage and will never use the extra 230GB?
Would you still recommend paying more than double to never use 980GB?
Hence why i said if ur looking for 1TB
Why would my opinion influence someones choice? Im talking strictly about value, take it however u want.
Yeah my bad I re-read and tried to nuke but you got me too quick haha.
@Grish: Ah no worries then!
Don't see why you would need to pay that much for 250 gb. Cheap brand would be better. I bought 2 Kingston 240gb for $20 each this week amazon ozbargain deal.
Evo is a bit silly when you're bottle necked by sata.Thought it said 2tb for a second and got super excited
$52 for 250GB isn't really a great deal.
Might be suitable for some niche use case but strongly not recommended 250gb these days. Need at least 500gb. For ssd, size matters, those seems-not-used free space actually impact performance to some extends.
