Just note - those heaters are only 1500 watts max, so only any good for very small rooms and you'd need it on a while. Might be ok for something like a bathroom, static caravan or tiny home.

For a bathroom I recommend one of these (though this one is 2500 watts and has a 15Amp plug). The type of heater is great though.

    • does it require a sparky to install or just plug to power source?

A standard 10 amp power point can only do 2400 watts, so the one I linked to above is an annoying 100 watts over. That's why it comes with a 15 amp plug (can't be plugged into a standard power point). There's a few options:

        1. Throw caution to the wind and chop off the 15 amp plug & put a 10 Amp one on and just use it anyway. Now my thinking is you could just as well have a double power point and have two 2400 watt heaters plugged into it. That's the same cable supplying double the power. So is a 2500 watt one really that much risk?

Drawback - officially illegal and if the heater burns the house down and insurance see what you've done - possible denial of claim.

        1. Install a beefed up cable with 15 Amp power point. Way over the top.

        2. Find a 2400 watt (or lower) version. I've seen some 1500 watt ones on Amazon.

The problem with a bathroom is you're usually heating the air, but you're also extracting it with the exhaust fan.

You can use a Tastic style heat lamp which heats the top of your bonce great, but your goolies suffer. The bar heater is similar to an old style bar radiator, but it has a different element. It heats up really fast, but it only heats surfaces it strikes (including you). It doesn't heat the air. Now that sounds great, except because the air is cold you get steam and condensation. The only way around that is to heat the air.

        1. The secret to a toasty bathroom experience (and I live in Tassie so it's necessary to get serious about this) is to keep your bathroom small. Mine is about 1.8 x 2.6 x 2.1 metres and is the laundry too (no loo though). Smallest volume of air to heat as possible. I use a 2400 watt fan heater and a 2400 watt one like the one above (it's not available any more). I put the first on before I use the bathroom (maybe 10-15 mins at most) and the second only when I'm in there.

I also have solar and Time Of Use tariff so do it either when there's enough solar to power it all or Off Peak (before 8am in winter in Tassie).

        • Thanks mate for the detailed response, really appreciate it.

@johnyBgood: I should add that I pretty much only use the bathroom once a day for any time that requires heating. I'm the only one here. It might be different if you had a family in and out all day. Then you might look at all day heating.

  • Bought the VMH300 bundle from a previous deal. The fan is good but wouldn’t recommend the heater.
