  • I am PCs

  • 42 internet points to whoever can find the T&C's for the $1 million insurance
    (Seriously… I can't seem to find them)

    • Forget about the insurance I would say.
These units might or might not help in an electrical surge situation depending on the type of surge, distance from the strike, etc.
But the price is good and the outlay is probably worth the added security.
I had a large lightning strike last year and looked into options. In the end I bought above cheap units as serious protection would require serious dollars.

  • I would recommend spend 10 bucks more for the $29 one from Dick smith. At least you where you have to go after a problem.
It comes with 75k insurance and life time guarantee ( 10 years ).

      • Pay and extra 50% more for the DSE.
      • Have to find and visit a DSE store that hasn't closed down yet.

… Wonder if anyone will be plugging in equipment worth more than $75k, and less than $1m?

Have to find and visit a DSE store that hasn't closed down yet.

Was wondering that myself, DSE warranty might be as null & void as the chain itself soon! ;)

      • Talk of DS demise is a bit premature - they are rationalising stores, adopting a different marketing strategy & marketing company, in a diminishing retail environment. If they didn't do that, they would surely go under.

Stores closing I have seen were… replaced by a new store (Elizabeth St, Brissie closed after a new store opened in Queen St - 1 block away in a better location), a short distance to 1 or more DS stores (eg Logan MegaCentre - old Powerhouse store near 2 DS), or were little visited (eg Logan MegaCentre in almost dead shopping centre), or lease was up. There are only a small number of stores closing relative to the total number.

Bought 2x 6outlet $18 ones from DS 5 days ago for 2 TVs etc. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/73217 (10year $75k insurance against 3yr. Included antenna & phone cables.)

        • Frankly, I can't see they can compete in the retail environment, in most locations. Originally they were different, with electronic components, amateur radio, and lots of other things you could not buy elsewhere in retail quantities.

Now it seems they have dumped almost everything which made them unique. How different are they now to Harvey Norman, JB HiFi, Retravision or any other "Home Entertainment Equipment" retailer?

Adding to that, the Dick Smith retail chain is owned by Woolworths, who could just as easily close the entire chain down, and increase the size of the "Home Entertainment" section of a nearby BiG W to compensate.

I suspect that Dick Smith stores will only continue to operate in areas that are not near a Big W store, and also not in areas were there is competition from WesFarmers chains like Target and K Mart.

  • Sold Out!

    • Like Arnie, they'll be back! It's worth noting that this has been Dealfox's normal price for these for a while now, I bought one about a month ago. :)
