Fanatec Podium Racing Wheel F1 $1999.95 (save $799.95) (and Bundle with Clubsport V3 Pedals $2299.95 (save $249.90))

Yes, pretty niche deal and a bit egregious to still charge further for delivery (about $32 for myself, as an example).

Can't find much of a history of these going on sale as well.

    • It's cheaper than track time, or maintaining an actual car. I used to race but it was a very expensive hobby, these days I got a second hand cockpit and 2DOF setup, with a VR headset and a decent wheel and pedals. A lot cheaper and safer than my actual racing days.

It's not objectively cheap, but is in the same price range as a DSLR with good lenses or a good telescope or a short trip overseas. It all depends what value you get out of it.

  • What cockpits are people using for this

    • +2

Sim-Lab P1-X but any 8020 cockpit will be plenty!

      • That's a great sim rig! Any suggestion where to get the Sim-Lab for the cheapest price? Cannot seem to find Australian stores that sell it. And any recommended seat?

        • +1

I got mine from HR Sims, and I believe they are the only Australian distributor (but last I heard, they may not have much stock).

They also are not cheap, but I was set on the Sim-Lab.
You can buy them direct from Sim-Lab, too. After shipping it worked out to be pretty much on-par with the local distributor.

I'm using a generic bucket seat that I had from my old rig. It does the job!

          • @thrillhouse: HR Sims, I will give them a search! Thanks!

Any particulsr reason set on Sim-Lab? They seem to have good reviews everywhere when I searched for them and looks great too.

With shipping costs these days, even when I look at statues, I have a feeling this may cost more than $500 for shipping? Which at least I know how much but then it just breaks $1000 so GST and import duties too I think!

Ah ok so seats doesn't matter too much!

Man I see those rigs online where the seats move and don't even want to imagine how much those might cost!

honestly sim lab is great but with Next Level doing the FGT Elite it is probably the better option. Unless you can get Sim Lab at a cheaper price than the FGT Elite.

If you are SEQ you can also pick up locally from Next Level. There is also potential depending how well you negotiate to get up to 15% off marked price (This may depend on the rep you get however).

Trak Racer is also not a bad alternative and same situation as Next Level but are Melbourne Based.

          • @Herman Esiesi: Thanks for your reply and insight!

There's so many setups from Next Level, seems like JB and HM sell less and the sim racing store sells most of it and there's some track version on discount? Many types of Elite so it is a bit confusing. I think Next Level and Trak Racer quite a bit cheaper than Sim Lab but don't know what the equivalent model is.

SEQ? I am based in Sydney, do you mean South East Queensland?

Trak Racer seem to be the cheapest with models just a few hundred and up?

            • +2

@JL1: Go the track racer. They’re based in oz and the best value for an 8020 frame. I have a TR80 mark 5

              • @nomoneynoproblems: I see videos of that model come up on youtube, is that like their most common model?

            • +2

@JL1: You can't go wrong with Trak Racer or Next Level. If you're planning to use the DD1 you should probably get the side mount version of the fgt elite. The difference is the fgt lite is made of thinner aluminium. Basically all the variations depend on aluminium size, seat bracket/no seat bracket, type of mount for wheel, type of pedal configuration.

Trak Racer works the same but its equilivent models to FGT Elite are the TR80 and TR120. Between these 3 models you can't go wrong. The FGT Lite came out yesterday, so don't know that much about it but would say it's the tr80 equilivent.

              • @Herman Esiesi: Thank for your reply, wow so much research into this, going to take time. And think about space at home! Seems like it will be hard to setup for both ps5 on oled tv and monitors for pc sim racing.

Side mount, are the different mount versions different for different wheel bases? I see DD mounts specifically too in some.

Next Level seems more expensive? Or are they mostly similar? Ah choices! Will be my first rig and I want to do it right!

                • +1

@JL1: Like Herman said they’re all pretty good and can’t go wrong. I ended up going with the TR80 MK 5 because it was slimmer length wise. That was it. I had a requirement for it to fit through the door so I could move it between my office and living space to play on PS5 and my PC. I have a standing desk so I can lift the desk and move right upto my monitors. (You want to be close to the screen as possible) Any 8020 frame will be rock solid. So you can’t make a bad decision either way.

Trak racer have a sale on at the moment so they’re pretty cheap. I would probably go that route. To save even more coin I bought the universal seat mount and purchased a 2nd hand seat off marketplace for $100.

Also put it on casters if you plan on moving it like I have. It’s so handy to move in and out of spaces.

                  • @nomoneynoproblems: Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately my pc is upstairs in my room and tv is downstairs. Not sure if any chance I can fit it through my door or get a rig down the stairs!

          • @Herman Esiesi: There are lots of NLR cockpits on FB marketplace too for good prices.

            • @Scrobo: NLR cockpits? I tried to search on FB marketplace for deals but didn't really see any except for a mad rig selling for like $5500. Asked seller if he would sell parts separate but he wouldn't. Sold a few days after!

  • Ozbargain you win! What rabbithole did I get myself into?

It's going to cost so much to set everything up yeah?

    • +2

      Yep

      • Any parts I need that I don't realize yet? I just read it's too much to mount on table for this one? Didn't spend the money for table mount so waiting to get a good cockpit I guess.

Bought some random thing that supposedly makes the feel of braking improve? It's starting…

        • +1

Another wheel. The F1 wheel is quite limiting.

          • @nomoneynoproblems: Was already looking, more expensive than real momo or sparco wheels. Guess they have buttons. Eyeing the porsche rsr or 918 wheels!

  • Wow, here are a lot of cashed up gamers on OzBargain. 2766 clicks so far.

    • +3

Well it's whole lot cheaper than doing a few track days…

      • +2

1 set of good tyres at not too small of a size is already $1500 plus at least. Petrol costs, brakes, fluid changes, entry. Really adds up. No need for helmet at home as well!

Maybe 1 day it will feel like the real deal.

    • +1

I think many just went to check it out and see what the deal is. Or look at how sexy it's constructed, lol. If 2000 ozbargainers bought it we could have some great online racing!

  • Wonder how long the sale will last for…
I'm still hming and aring about it but my G25 is pretty outdated :)
