Sorry, first post
And $40 something back in store credit.
Cool!
Hey mate, how does this work please?
great kit for absolute beginner with no tools at all
Or a seasoned pro to be able to throw "everything" in the boot!
My father who has a trophy case full from building hotrods, ratrods, and big muscle has the smaller set, without the pliers; and he loves them.
Lifetime warranty, very good case clips, and dont flinch at the old jack-handle making your 3/8ths into a breaker bar.
Honestly can't fault them. Im very fond of the positive ratchet mechanism, its very clicky.
Could not agree more.
Had one of these for years and have used it constantly to work on my cars and others. I take it with me to do work and get comments on how neat the whole package is and how it has almost everything you would need. Add a few extension in for the ratchets and it is easily the most useful tool kit you could have,.
1/2 imperial. No deal.
sell em and replace with 6point metrics
You say that; until you work on a vehicle.
You find a motorbike who happens to 'randomly' have an american Triple Tree or such, and nothing else.
Or any car; because child restraints and seatbelts are all imperial.
Or just anywhere some dude used bunnings bolts.
And you're thankful they exist. Ive never cussed owning a "complete set" of tools.

$15 postage for me even with ebay plus, so only $7 cheaper.

Didn't see that, thanks!
I have the 138 piece version of this (got for $130ish on sale) and I think it's a great starter kit. Good quality tools, most of the stuff you'll need, everything clips tightly into place in the plastic, nice stuff like a breaker bar and spark plug sockets, deep sockets and u-joints. I think the extra 60 pieces in the 198 piece kit are mostly allen keys, but those pliers and cutters would definitely come in handy. Those wheel nut impact sockets are an unusual choice, but I suppose they don't hurt lol.
My complaints after a couple of years using it would be that all the 1/2" drive sockets are 12 points, it doesn't come with anything like a 3/8"-1/2" adaptor, and the spanners only go up to 19mm, but by the time you're worrying about that stuff you'll be taking any excuse to buy new tools anyway.
EDIT - Actually, looking over it it seems like the 198 piece set comes with even fewer spanners than the 138 piece? And I think it might be missing a couple of the socket extension bars. I'd definitely prefer those over dozens of extra allen keys, but then the 138 piece kit isn't on sale right now.
The reversible ratchets provides both tightening and loosening capabilities and feature push button detent to ensure that your sockets don't fall into the abyss of your engine bay.
Has this ever happened to anyone? I have only 1 ratchet that has this button lock and it only ever bugs me.
Could anyone recommend a step up from this if willing to spend a bit more?
Not really. These work well in a pro workshop, and will be replaced without question, forever if they ever did fail.
More importantly is the question of;
What does this lack for you, that 'we' need to try and improve by finding you another set? We need a goalpost to aim for :)Unfortunately, with tools, each of the better brands tend to excel in some areas but not all areas, so if you buy a big set with everything in it it's gonna be hit and miss.
For high quality without throwing away money I'd buy Gearwrench ratchets, SP Tools spanners, Wera bits and screwdrivers, and for sockets you have a few good choices depending on price but I'd just go with Auzgrip (cheaper) or Gearwrench. Sidchrome is still good if you can get them on sale, despite now being made in Taiwan.
All of these can be found for decent prices if you look around. For example a Wera screwdriver set is $120 at Bunnings but $51 delivered from overseas. Also, as an example of what I mentioned above, even though Wera makes phenomenal screwdrivers and bits, their spanners and sockets are overpriced fancy looking toys.
Wow! Thanks for this. Better than half price!
Could you please name a couple of reputable online overseas places?
I'm looking for a full toolkit for a nephew who's starting to take motorcycles apart. He's 20 and knows what he's doing, so I would like to support the cause. Budget, about $200, can go more.
Wouldn't be able to recommend a full tool set but some sites that tend to have good prices are discounttrader.com.au, tradetools.com, and toolswarehouse.com.au.
@umexcuseme: Thank you mate!
