Hi Guys.
Someone told me I should replace the timing belt on my Mazda3 2011 Maxx Sport but Google is telling me that it has a timing chain.
Can someone shed light on this please?

Recommended replacement between 130 - 190,000 k’s according to a Google search stating (80-120,000 Miles)

Unless it is worn and rattles etc no need replacement
If you're correct about the year then it has a chain which should last the life of the engine if properly maintained though "life" means different things to different people. Car is 11 years old, manufacturer probably considers it's life over, you clearly don't. How many km has it done? 150k km and it'll be in the ballpark where they may need replacement, 80,000 probably not, 500,000 likely yes but as bathuu said, unless it's making abnormal noise it should be fine, just something to keep in mind.
chain.
If the vehicle is serviced properly and not thrashed continuously it should last well beyond 200k km.
My Octavia had a reputation for bad timing chains but mine was still silent on start/run at 205k. I assume because used quality oil and changed it every 12 months (which was around 10k-14k)
What oil?
my bet is it's 5W30 VW 504/507 spec.
Brand? various.
What oil?
Whatever "name brand" was on special. Castrol, Mobil1, Valvoline, Penrite, Nulon. Always a Mann filter.
Mostly VW 502.00 but if 504.00 was on sale I'd get that as it's low SAPs and better for the inlet carbon issues.
502.00 is specified for 15k/12m intervals. 504.00 is for variable service regime which we don't use in Australia (thank goodness). IIRC that will extend oil changes right up to 30k/24m if the conditions are ideal.
I did UOA on the oil a couple of times and it tested so well that there was no point doing it.
The car had an easy life. From when I purchased in 2008 to 2016 most of the kms were from Hurstville to Campbelltown and back, all against the traffic sitting on 80-100kph. Very few short trips or stop/start.
Why would you need a poll for a straightforward question, it's not like the most votes wins!
Yes it does where OP does not know how to lookup what type of timing mechanism is in the car OP may have.
Then you ask the question, a poll is pointless.
Thats fair enough.
Made sense at 11:30 last night lol
Don't people read their Owners or Service manual anymore?
Yes but it had timing belt in there, which clearly wasn’t accurate
It is a chain
