even better than the previous deal

  • +7

Damn last week got it for 135$ after 35$ cashrewards

    • Same but in my case, Coles plan’d have expired and this deal would’ve been too late anyway!

  • What was the price black friday last year?

  • +6

Any current Boost customers had any luck recharging their current service through support on one of these deals?

    • +3

Yep. Several years ;). Just be nice to the chat agent and claim that you are a proud customer of Boost. They will do the rest. I suggest to get their confirmation first, take a print out n buy the sim.

      • +1

I tried, no luck. So now I'm with woolies mobile

        • +6

Ditto. 5 services with Boost and they simply refused to offer a deal, even when presented with a much better Woolies deal. May I suggest Woolies is best value, at least for Sydney. 10% discount on one shop per month pays for one service (yet to get them to give me 5 of those .. a bit lazy of me)

          • +1

@mrau: Woolies doesn't have the whole network right?

            • @furyou: Only Boost and Telstra do.

            • @furyou: how much coverage are woolies missing then?

            • +1

@furyou: No it doesn't. I have been on it for years but lately the service has sucked. I'm looking to transfer 3 phones (mine and my kids) to Boost because of it. The 10% off groceries once a month is great though, it can be great if you plan a big shop to get the maximum benefits. I'm in the hills district of Sydney. I personally think woolies mobile coverage has declined recently but not sure why.

              https://mobile.woolworths.com.au/coverage

              • @Octopusgarden: I've been with Woolies Mobile for about 3 years now. I don't know if it's the service or my iPhone 13 Pro, but from around when I switched from iPhone 7 I've been having issues where I still have mobile coverage bars/signal, but my data struggles to load anything at all. It's happened in country towns, inside shopping centres and in parts of Melbourne CBD. I've lodged service requests and even asked for a SIM replacement to narrow the issue down but all I get are things along the lines of congestion. Yet, during those times family with Optus and even Kogan have good connections. Shrug

        • +1

I’ll be switching simply because I’m sick of waiting for Boost to get esim

        • -3

Just had a online chat with the staff, they refused to help to recharge and doesn't offer any discounts or bonus data to existing customer. They are full of B S, just blaming to the system and wouldn't want to manually over write their systems to help to offer discounts or bonus data. So disappointed with Boost!!!!!!

          • @evildog: You know the risks. Just port out and port back in.

      • I just tried chatting to them for a price match, they reckon they can't manually change prices etc.

      • Wait.. so in current service, if you have one month left and if you recharge now, do you lose that month or time gets added from when the current plan is going to expire?

    • I have in the past successfully asked them to price match and recharge my active boost sim.

      • You just talk to chat and ask for a recharge and they'll give you a code to recharge or you have to buy the sim?

  • +4

That's really good compared to $119 from colemobile. I might switch to them as my colemobile expires at the end of November

  • +1

Ah damn. My recharge doesn't end till march… Any chance of this deal happening again early next year?

    • +16

Always a chance. Anything is possible. I rate it at least a 50-50 possibility, or 60-40 depending on the sentiment of the Reserve Bank, and the new-year’s price of a KFC Zinger burger. Of course, all these calculations go out the window if the wind starts blowing consistently from the east

    • as good a chance of winning lotto.

    • In the worst case, you always find Boost plans selling at discounted price on eBay.

  • +1

    New customers only - title?

    • -1

      It isn't?

      • +1

Clicking the link says new customers only.
And it's buying a SIM not a recharge code.
        So… I think.

        • +1

Yeah seems like this is only for new customers..shame

        • You can buy a cheap $5 SIM from Vodafone or something. Transfer your number to that first and then you can use this SIM as a new customer.

Takes about a wait for everything to go through, but well worth the discount.

          • +2

            @thispasito: Sure.

The deal is still for 'new customers only'.

            • @nzcoops: Yea, fair enough.

            • @nzcoops: As per the comments from the prior deals you can still recharge by getting on chat and asking them to move your number over. Done this myself and for relatives.

              • @vawiyoci: Will you get the cashback though?

                I wouldn't risk it.

                • @linkii: I got cash back last time doing exactly this. Since it's not used as a recharge, it actually activates the new sim and transfers your current plan/number to the new sim.

                  • @cosjav: so you just purchase this boost sim, put it in, activate it and port your already boost number across? Or should we go a cheap voda sim first?

                    • @Bushbasha: No I chatted with support and got them to do the activation and porting on their end. The worst case scenario is that they no longer do this on their end and you will have to go down the path of porting to a cheap sim and porting back…

          • @thispasito: I just tried to buy this sim and find I must fill out full identification details such as full name, DOB, license number, etc. These must be entered pre-purchase, not just pre-activation. So at the time I enter these details I am a current Boost customer and thus I am taking a risk that I purchase it and Boost can clearly show I do not qualify.

          • @thispasito: Do you know any that actual work these days? Most I am seeing have minimums of like $15 to activate

  • What's coverage like outside the major cities? I go to Tassie a fair bit

    • +9

      Same as full Telstra

    • Pretty good I'd say. They use Telstra's network. I've used pretty much all the carriers, Boost has been the most affordable and convenient one for me to date.

      YMMV.

      • mileage varying equals : there is a "dead spot" for this (and other Telstra connections) in the middle of a (quite large) shopping centre near here.
The EB games staff member certainly knew about it, he asked if I was with Telstra and then set wifi hotspot on his phone so I could download the details of a gift card in the store….

    • I live in North-West Tassie. My dual-SIM phone has both Boost & Woolworths active ATM.
In my experience, there's no difference (around here) between the wholesale and "full" Telstra network. The same dead spots occur with both.
May be different in other places.

      • +1

Fair bit of the east coast around Freycinet isn't covered on the wholesale network

  • -1

I'm using Belong for free for the whole year, otherwise I will buy one

    • +3

Belong doesn't have the full Telstra network, Boost does

      • -6

How can you tell that a company that uses Telstra's network doesn't have access to the full network?

I assumed that all companies using the same network would be equal.

        • -2

It’s quite amusing, really. Nobody actually knows what the “full Telstra network” is. Except that it’s often full, and slows down a bit

        • +4

I can tell, without looking into their words. I used Boost before, the signal is strong and stable. Since I switched to Belong, bad signal and data frequently dropped when I'm driving. If it isn't free, I switched back already.

          • +1

@ntt: Thanks for your feedback, that makes my choice between the two much easier.

      • Any idea if More telecom have full Telstra network?

        • +1

I believe Boost is the only one. Worth doing your own research though.

    • How come for free for the whole year?

      • +2

convert points from Telstra for an $80 starter pack, switch to 15/month, and keep referring for extra credit

        • Heard story belong can just nuke your number of you keep doing that

  • Does this have expiry date, and how many days we need to port out and come back with existing number?

    • SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering.

      • +1

        … to receive cashback.

The SIM itself will have a much longer expiry.

  • when is this deal until?

    • +1

      15 November

  • +1

I hope this deal recurs for years to come :P

    • Remember remember, the 8-15 November (or thereabouts). That’s the quote, right?

  • Would you be able to use this $2 Vodafone sim for the New Customer requirement?

    • You don’t need to port in. You just need to not have been a Boost Mobile customer before. Pretty simple…

      • +2

If I remember correctly, existing customers like me can port to another company first and port back to be eligible.

          • +2

@tharlow: Why not just use plain English? That will be of better help to your fellow ozbargainer.

          • +3

@tharlow: If you don't know then you don't know. No need to get all passive aggressive and weird about it.

          • +2

@tharlow: I thought these T&C we're wirelessly streamed now everyone is vaccinated. If you're having reception issues, you can just wear a mask with an antenna that attaches to your nose.

    • +1

@thispasito Did you figure out if porting to this voda sim first makes you a new customer?

  • Finally.

  • Cashback got tracked within 2 minutes, thanks!

  • TOO LATE!! Only just renewed my Optus prepaid an hour or so ago because there was nothing from Boost :(

    • Ooft. Giving Optus your business again after that trainwreck…

  • +2

Does this include 5g service or only limited to 4g?

    • +2

It includes 5G as it is on the Telstra network.

I am can confirm as I am currently using it.

      • Great deal, then.

Was hoping to port out of Telstra (currently paying $65 a month) to another service and hopefully wait for the new telstra sign on bonuses offered by JB but I think the value of this service far outweighs the gift card that is part of the promo (especially as of late).

Will pull the trigger on this one - hoping porting into this service is simple and easy.

        • +2

I just saw the message below me. Looks like 5G trial ends for Telstra and Boost customers on Nov 28!

          • @thispasito: Damn, that sucks.

            • @A female dog: Why you concerned about 5G? It is not that you have lots of data to use.. (11 GB per month).
I am on Boost and getting 60Mbps on my Galaxy 10 on 4G

          • +1

@thispasito: 5G ends the same day is the deadline for activating this deal !

            • @whyisave: they'll extend it by another trial soon, just marketing gimmick!

      • Isn't that a trial?..

    • 5G is a trial until the 28th of November

  • Does this have e-sim?

    • No

    • We don't have esim capability yet but it is a top priority for us, we are working really hard to offer it as soon as possible for both existing customers and new customers!

  • Can't we just call cutomer support to keep same number? does it still works?

  • +1

    Do they do esims yet?
