Good Price for a Steam Library Drive

    • Might get two for my Lan cache to replace my spinning drives
      https://lancache.net/

    • I've been holding out for a 2tb nvme for a Games drive, any reason why NOT to go for this one? Worth holding off until Black Friday etc?

  • This is not a bad deal, but if we are talking strictly about value, u can get 2x 1TB ssd from silicon power for just $158

  • Would this be good as the only drive in a pc?

this is pretty slow for an ssd. probably best as a drive for your games and data and whatnot.

  • This looks like exactly what I need to add extra storage to my laptop (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/709034)

Would only use Silicon Power drives for data you would have no issues with losing (games library, Linux ISO's etc)

They are bottom tier drives competing strictly on price and they replace controllers and NAND without warning so any specs in reviews are meaningless

This is what they did with the higher spec P34A80 - https://cultists.network/4371/sp-p34a80-downgrade/

Currently, the cheapest reasonable 2TB SSD is the Team CARDEA ZERO Z330 for $193

    • Thanks - what makes the Team CARDEA better than the others around this price?

Didn't know that happened with the a80. I got an original model of those in 2019 - been going strong as my boot drive for just over 3 years.

As far as the behaviour, almost sounds like….
      Western Digital https://www.tomshardware.com/news/wd-blue-sn550-ssd-performa…
      Or
      Kingston https://www.anandtech.com/show/7763/an-update-to-kingston-ss…

Controller and NAND swap is something pretty much most, if not all SSD makers have done. Samsung, WD, Kingston, Crucial all done that.

Also, in what way is Team better? Or, is your reason that since there hasn't been any known "swap" Team has done, it is okay? So, Samsung, WD, Kingston, Crucial, Silicon Power should all be blacklisted?

Based on the review, it looks like the sustained write isn't good on this one (it appears to attempt to do recovery, but as more data gets pumped in while it does that, the write speed struggles). Worst case for this is that this now has a NAND swap to QLC (instead of TLC).

      • I like ur constructive comments.

  • I really want this for my laptop but apparently my laptop doesn't support 2TB+ nvme drives

    • it probably does

product literature will say it supports up to the highest available device at the time but it doesn't mean than new devices of larger capacity are not supported

you should look online for anecdotal evidence from personal experience

  • Drops to slower than HDD speeds when direct to TLC - acceptable drive for mass storage, wouldn't run an OS or anything on it.

I run my plex off one, .

Really depends what the purpose is, no?

Its cheap but does the job, I mean really for some stuff a plain ssd would do

  • looking for bulk m.2 ssd storage for games and files etc, would this be a good price for 2TB? or can i expect something a little better on black friday?

    • Files you can afford to lose and have them backed up?

If this is just for storage then its fine, for OS not really, there is probably better and safer deals than SP
