  • Same position.
    Replacing the cameras and NVR.
Unless you want to add more camera's and the current Hik system is POE, you should be OK to do it your self.
If you need to add more cameras then any cabling should be done by licenced cabler.
Dahua is good value but not pulled the pin yet.

    • I think it uses older cabling like coaxial and 2core cables and has a 500gb hard drive 4camera system from what I can see

      • Is the old system analog?
The first thing is to decide if you want to keep the old cables, or go to a lot more trouble to replace them with ethernet.

Yeah i went from a simple 2 camera wireless only Arlo system to a Dahua 4 camera setup with NVR. Got sick of charging the arlo and it recording only when it detected motion

I did my own cabling, its not a hard job depending on ceiling space access and those sort of things. I cabled all of mine back to my study cupboard and got power run there and also shifted my copper nbn cable and router to that spot

All in all very simple, the setup was easy and the cameras do a great job, hasnt missed a beat as yet and been in for maybe 6 months

I find the Dahua client a little clunky but it gets the job done, and you can access it directly via the NVR, through a webpage, through the windows app or via your phone so plenty of options. For now its just set and forget, i get notifications when i want them and yeah works well

If you want any other info yell out

    • Yea sounds like I think il have to rip the old system out ,we have node 1 dish wifi so think might have all be pulled to the garage like the current system and be nice to hook it up or run a cable to master bedroom tv instead of monitor in garage and having to rely on app, what dahua cameras did you go for ?

  • In WA there's a lovely plumber at the Bunbury Surf Club who i'm sure can help you out

    • Lmao ,plumbing and CCTV shouldn't mix

Use the OLD cabling as a pull through, have a single Cat5 or similar to each camera making the obvious choice a POE NVR and cameras.
Then you can use your home WIFI to monitor from anywhere -including overseas.
I bought cameras and an NVR and just run Cat5.
Now can monitor on phone, laptop, tv anywhere in the world.
    Easy Peazy.

PS: Suggest a UPS to run your NVR and router.

    • Nice ,great feed back mate what system did you go for?

    • Wouldnt the UPS also need to have enough juice to feed the cameras as well given they would be POE, could need to be a pretty large UPS to keep those up for an outage over 10 to 15 minutes? Its a good idea though for when away

  • Bought CCTV and 4 cameras from CCTV supplier.
Own cabling and install (it is very simple to do).

    UPS is only 800VA.
Enough to run for 20-30 minutes.
System is 24/7/365 recording in 4k.
Has object detection/removal, cross the line and motion detect.
Infrared at night, does not turn on any lights.
