Tonneau Cover for Toyota Hilux SR5 with Sports Bar

I am looking for Tonneau cover for hilux, If any one had experience with Roller covers like By EGR or HSP?

And also if any one has experience with keeping the dust away from tub.

Couldn't find any reviews other than there own marketing ones. And couldnt find any information on how they perform after few years. Is it hassle free or it has got tendency to break after the warranty is over.

Was initially looking at UteMasterLoad Lid but price for that to get fitted is getting too expensive.

I don't want to install Cannopies. Looking for something which is secure and can keep weather out of my tub. Using Ute for family trips around australia. So would like the possibility if can keep dirty stuff outside tub and keep the tub as dirt free as possible.

I know its lot to ask for and tubs cannot get 100% dust free. but looking at Toyota they are offering carpet in one of its model.

Would also like to keep factory sports bar installed. So more for the looks.

  • when we travelled in our dual cab (no bar), I just used a big blue tarp.
place tarp in tub first, load gear and fold/wrap tarp over everything like a big parcel. worked a treat on trip with a few gravel/dirt roads
dealer fitted soft tarp over the top, not secure like a lockable hard lid though
    .

    • i also do something similar, but now i am thinking of trying to fix it and make it hassle free.

  • Mate has a roller cover on his Ranger and they don't keep the dust out and water gets in too. He's had a few issues with it, the motor died and needed to be replaced, also the roller sometimes doesn't retract properly and goes in at angle and gets stuck.

    • Yup, the Toyota Rogue one has issues as well

I doubt other designs would be any better tbh

      • EGR are the ones who supply to toyota as well.
Its almost same model i just confirmed from the sales rep from EGR. Same is the case with Dust kit, which is also being supplied by EGR.

    • I feel if that's the case and if atleast water doesn't get in from in between the roller. and its only the edges still it would be good.

      • Mine has drip rails as part of the roller tracks up the sides. The drip rails have hoses that allow most water to exit the bottom of the tub but some water seems to overflow and drip into the tub.

Used to get litres and litres into my old ute with a soft top. The roller let’s in a few drips. Be lucky to be a cup full in comparison and it’s only along the sides afaik. We’ve had some pretty heavy rain since I’ve installed it.

I’d have no dramas putting camping gear in under the roller and not worrying about it being too wet (I haven’t yet), but would want clothing etc in some sort of water and dust proof storage anyway.

Facebook group for Dmax has those that love it and think it’s quite water proof and those that hate how much it lets in. I guess it depends on 1. How well it’s installed and sealed and 2. Wether you think a cup full is a lot or not much.

  • I’ve got a roller on my Dmax. Factory model so I don’t know what brand. It’s not waterproof, but better than the soft cover on my old ute. Haven’t tried dust proofing yet but imagine the tailgate is where most would get in.

The rollers are good being lockable, but you’ll lose some space at the front of the tub where it rolls up. Makes it harder to push tall stuff up against the headboard like I used to so I could lash it hard up against the front of the tub.

I don’t have the electric version, but one I’ve seen had even more loss of space with the motor hanging down below the roller section on one side.

    • yes true, i also don't want to loose space over there. sometimes its good space to push things at the back which are not required to be accessed to often.
