ShopBack Travel Swap Gift Card Wrong Description and Not Owning up

I Purchased a $10 Shopback Travel Swap gift card , its purchasing page says its swappable for Airbnb.
You can try it on your app, added the screenshot for reference: https://ibb.co/TY2CNhq

After the purchase its not swappable to Airbnb. Contacted the Shopback support and they dug into the T&Cs and showed a clause that >$25 only swappable for Airbnb. Shopback refuses to refund the gift card which is useless for me because its not for what I thought it was for. The gift card backend is with Preezee and they accepted that its wrong on Shopback’s part to have a wrong description for this gift card and started a refund but were blocked by Shopback
Seems like Shopback has a deceptive/wrong selling page description and they refuse to own up to their mistake. Its been 5 weeks long to and fro very slow email communications only (no call center at all) vs Preezee who concluded this in just 2 days.
Please note it is a matter more about wrong selling tactics, very poor customer service and arrogance that has set into Shopback. Hopefully this information helps this forum.

Shopback is wrong and should own up to its mistake.

Shopback is right, hiding the fine print is ok even if buying page says something different.

5 weeks over a $10 gift card that you didn't read the terms and conditions for, wowzers.

Some denominations are not valid at some retailers

    Also

The brands and denominations are subject to change with no notice

Says it right in your screenshot.

Don’t you see the bold text Airbnb?
As I mentioned in the post its more about what Shopback is doing, today its $10 tomorrow maybe $100 or $1000, then what?

      • Don’t you see the bold text Airbnb?

Here, I'll do it for you again-

Some denominations are not valid at some retailers

        Also

The brands and denominations are subject to change with no notice

Says it right in your screenshot.

It didn't just change with no notice though, it was never redeemable for AirBnB

            @Quantumcat:

Some denominations are not valid at some retailers

Goodness me, not sure why this is so hard.

            • @brendanm: It is literally listed in the description. It makes sense if it was available for AirBnB then that changed later but it was never available.

Are you really happy with a product listing a feature in the description that was never included?

            • +1

              @brendanm: Because…
If your buy a bottle with banana shake written in bold on the front, you drink it and it tastes different and when you read the tiny text at the back it says strawberry shake.
Thats what this gift card is.

@backupper1: It is written right there, clear as day, that some denominations are not valid.

I had similar experience with Amazon where I bought a Food Swap card and they let you pick the amount, so I picked $79 but you could only see the denominations once you have the card and there was no combination where I could use my full amount. Amazon was able to cancel the gift card since I havent used it, so Shopback should be able to as well.

    • I read forums and online, seems like mine is not an isolated case. Prezzee saw the error and wanted to refund but Shopback blocked it.

      • Would be a little odd if the retailer was willing to refund but SB wouldnt. Reach out to @gotyourback, hes very helpful, email comms are the worst.

        • Thanks for pointing to a contact I will contact him and see if he helps.

  • I only have one question… What can you buy on Airbnb with $10? And if it was accommodation, if you were only $10 short why bother with all the hassle of a gift card?

    Not a dig, genuinely intrigued!

I wanted to give 3rd party (non Airbnb and swappable) gift cards a shot because in theory they can be used at different travel service provider merchants and not stuck with Airbnb only.

  • +3

    not stuck with Airbnb only.

    Mission accomplished 👍

    • Yeah for sure. Now stuck with Shopback.

      • Maybe your personal information got compromised… Apparently that's worth about $10 to shopback…

Hey there @backupper1, sorry to hear you've had some trouble here, I can appreciate the confusion with the available denominations, this is something I've chatted to the team about previously which is why they have added the available denominations to each brand under the "Available Retailers" on the gift card's page. Typically gift cards aren't refundable due to the T's and C's and Prezzee or other merchants, which might be what's slowing down our care team as it's got a bit of red tape surrounding, so I'm happy to help accelerate getting this resolved for you mate, reach out to me via DM and I'll gladly help out.

    • I have sent the details on pm.

    • I got the refund, Thanks for this really helpful.

Always happy to do what I can, reach out any time mate.
