If you are looking to pick up IT, go for it. Pretty sure they will be offering fee free or partial subsidies for the IT courses and for better value, go for the highest certification you can manage to study in your workload (diploma or advanced diploma). Recommend to start youtube learning/udemy before starting the cert IV or above cause knowledge of fundamentals is essential but not required if you are willing to put blood, sweat and tears into the learning. Do note that there may be some pre-requisites certifications to do diploma, you may ask the TAFE admins for more information.
Learning is hands on and fun depending on the teachers you get. Definitely worth the value and time. It is different to Uni but i can guarantee you, you will know more and be more experienced at an entry level job, compared to a uni graduate (from my personal experience and opinion)
