Gutter Hook Mounting for Outdoor Festoon Lights

Hey all

Got these Kogan outdoor lights earlier in the year, now looking to get them hooked up for Summer. Given the location, I need to mount one end on the gutter (the other will be on a star picket), but the mounting option needs to be temporary.

Suggestions?

Keep coming across gutter clips for fairy lights, which wouldn't be able to handle the weight

  • Those plastic gutter clips for fairy lights are pretty strong. I normally have to replace them every couple of Christmas's as they tend to deteriorate after all the exposure to the elements.

The clips are cheap and worth a crack in my opinion.

I've never tried these magnetic ones at Bunnings but may be an option.

    • Good reviews on the magnetic ones. Might give them a go myself- ta!

    • Yeah have those for another thing, don't think they'll take the weight

That said, I could put a magnet on the inside of the gutter so it attracts more and hopefully holds better

      • That's why they call you the ideas man

I am using this type of hook on my metal patio roof to hang the exact lights. Gutters probably don't have enough meat to fully utilize the magnetic power for the hooks. Also you wanna hang them pointing down for best results. I'd go with some custom bent metal hooks as suggested below. Wouldn't drill tack screws into the gutter, as it will rust.

    Stainless steel pegs

  • Tek screw a bracket or hook onto gutter support? The piece that goes from top rolled edge of gutter back to under the tile/coro.

    • Perfect for Christmas 2024

cut up metal coat hanger, and bend with pliers.

    • This. No need to overcomplicate it

Other options I've used in the past have been the heavy duty document clips

    • The problem is the sheer weight of these things. It's a lot of electrical cord, far heavier than fairy lights or rope lights
