[WA] OzBargain 16th Birthday - Perth Meetup - Saturday 19th November @ Planet Royale Northbridge 12pm

Hi all,

UPDATE 19/11
Thankyou all for coming, chuns for the shirts and Scotty/Ozbargain for the lunch - Happy Birthday!
Group Photo: https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/95896/99573/20221119_0…

I'm looking to organise at Planet Royale on SATURDAY 19th November 12pm as it is central and open for lunch.
You will NOT go home hungry.
It also satisfies the $35 limit for ozbargains 16th birthday party perfectly!

There are vegetarian options available with selection of eight different pizzas (Four Cheese, Hawaiian, Pepperoni, Margherita, Supreme, Chili Prawn, Pulled Pork, Vegetarian)
I can organise either Sat 19th or Sun 20th, but not both so vote for the day(s) you can attend.
As soon as we hit 15 for one of those days, i will organise restaurant bookings/ t shirts with scotty
Hoping to get the numbers nice and early so the t shirts arrive in time

UPDATE 2/11. Thankyou everyone for voting. The original 15 has gone to 31! I will need to see if they can fit all of us plus kids and SO.
Voting is now closed. We would like to keep these parties small.
I will pm you to confirm RSVP. If you don't have it enabled, please pm me when you see this.

fingers crossed this one gets enough traction, I can't make the Sunday events :(

  • Both my son and I are interested BUT we will be late maybe not till 1pm. We both work till 12 Saturdays, will need showers, and we live in Oakford. Other than that all good at this stage.

    • Please still vote - there will be plenty of pizza avaialble if this is the date preferred

  • +1

    Thanks for trying to organise

  • Thanks for taking on the organisation, sadly I have a camp this weekend so won't be able to make it this year.

    • THIS weekend? It's on the 19th? You mean on THAT weekend I'm guessing LoL

  • +1

Has anyone had the opportunity to try the pizza yet?

Their wings were amazing but sadly no more all you can eat Wednesdays :(

    • +1

I heard the wings were good.
I don't think it'll be monstrella level, but Ozbargain is paying for it, so vote if you can attend

      • Sadly I'm working both days or I'd be there.

I could do an evening event but I guess that isn't an option this year..

    • +2

Pizza was pretty good, I had a whole Hawaiian minus one slice and am completely stuffed, and probably won't eat anything for dinner, and food coma is likely to happen now that I am home….

  • +1

    Come on, 4 more votes!!

  • +1

Sounds good to me. I have put my vote in.

  • +4

Thanks OP. Just gave the 14th vote -so we are now very close to 15.
Seems like the perfect location for the Ozbargain birthday celebrations for many reasons OP mentioned

    1) Central location - very easily accessible to everyone
    2) All you can eat - As OP says, it is impossible to go hungry
    3) Fits in absolutely perfectly with Scotty's budget - so absolutely no chance of going over budget
    4) Would be much easier for OP to organise as amount to pay is easily calculated (No. of people * 34.95)
    5) Open for lunch at 12 (does anyone know closing time by the way?)
    6) Arcade attached
    7) Vegetarian option too and all you can eat at that

OP has also posted the Pizza Planet deal as a separate deal - link below. Some people there have doubts about whether it is a deal, but it is a good deal IMO, and I've upvoted that deal too.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/733189

It is especially good if there are many people attending. For example if it was just 1 person going, then you could perhaps just have 2 pizzas on your own (so not much of a deal) and that is it, but with 15 people going, you could possibly order and share each of the 8 different pizzas and then order and share more of the popular ones again.
Chilli prawn and pulled pork pizzas are $35 just as standalone purchases - so pretty good deal as "all you can eat"

Pics below of each of the 8 pizzas with further description

Thanks again for organising OP. Hopefully, someone gives the 15th vote soon.

Cheers mate - wow i actually didnt check the menu and look at the pizza prices!
There were alot of neg votes, but i think the luxury of living in the Eastern states are $3 non servo station coffees and cheaper restaurants.
There are 15 votes now so im going to msg scotty!
Im going to organise this one, and someone can take the reigns of organising Sunday

  • +4

    Hi everybody,
We have 15 votes for both days!
I will organise Saturday, but someone can takeover and organise this Sunday if you wish - pm me.

    • +2

Great work mmd. Put me down for Saturday. I'll have my tracksuit pants ready.

As someone who attended for the first time last year, I had a great time, but we had a whole heap of people not turn up - if you vote that you are coming, please turn up - OzBargainers are a cool bunch of people and don't bite, plus, if you get your vote in early enough - you might get a free t-shirt :)

  • +2

hey MMD, when you go to book, can you find out if we can add the salad & pasta bar, or the sundae bar by paying extra on the day, ourselves?

  • +4

    Hi all,
Thankyou everyone for voting. This event is now capped and I will close the poll. I will need to find out how many seats (if they're prepared for the horde) they can fit.
I will/would have pm those with pm enabled. Those who don't have, please pm me.

As mentioned by cevad and Scotty - we would like to keep these parties small. I'm not going to take a deposit/tickets but the restaurant have asked for a pre-authorisation for the table.

Check out the deets here. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/728863

As these are free events, a lot of people indicated they will come in the polls but did not turn up — that turned out to be quite an issue for us & the organisers. For example last year's Chatswood meetup — 73 OzBargainers voted that they'll attend, but less than 40 turned up — when we have already booked the tables & paid for the meals. For organisers — maybe smaller meetup that people can order on the spot is preferred. Alternatively we can also sell tickets. $5 in our Melbourne event last year, but fully-refundable if you show up at the meetup.

@Dealsniper88 @hazardous tex, @johndowy, @Kimmy27, @Sean De Souza - can you please pm me as yours is not activated.
I think i have pm everyone else. If i havent sorry and please pm. After tomorrow, there will be alot more comments from me so stay tuned.

  • Hi, maybe it is too late, I just would like to know may I join? Thank you!

    • @mmd who is doing the organising, posted mid last week that the numbers were closed off, and was seeking confirmation from everyone, so your best bet would be to pm them and see if you can be included - I am thinking that it may be too late, though, unfortunately.

      • Hi cevad, thank you! I will pm mmd now.

        • +1

          Hi zlheng,
As much as I would like to include everybody, the numbers have blown from 15 to 24 to 3X plus.
I have to call the restaurant/email the planner each time so too much messing around, so apologies
Also the t shirts are on the way so I dont know how many I'm getting and adding more ppl means ppl could miss out.

    Hi everybody,
The numbers have gone from 15 to 24 to over 35!
In the original promotion, it does say maximum of 40 ppl, but they never had an ozbargain table before!

What I do know is the following by calling the restaurant:
    1. Cant add on extra for the pasta/salad bar unless the whole table does it - Sorry cevad.
    2. However the dude on the phone said each person can pay extra for sundae.
    3. I've asked about +35 ppl ordering the all you can eat pizza deal but noone seems to be sure IF this can be accommodated.

I emailed the planner but she hasnt responded to my past couple of emails, but thats where we are at the moment.

As soon as she replies, i will update the post accordingly.

    • +2
      1. Cant add on extra for the pasta/salad bar unless the whole table does it - Sorry cevad. - all good, appreciate you checking :D
      2. However the dude on the phone said each person can pay extra for sundae. - Wooo!!!! Sundae is always better than pasta/salad :D
      3. I've asked about +35 ppl ordering the all you can eat pizza deal but noone seems to be sure IF this can be accommodated. - Hmmm they gonna be busy!! lol On a serious note, I hope it doesn't cause issues and you hear back from the planner soon.

      Appreciate all your organising mmd.

    • Well done Mmd.

    • Count me in for Saturday. Cheers

  • +1

Please put me on the waiting list. I love OzBargain!

    • michael is organising sunday if u can make it https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/733176

    • Hey zlheng, just want to confirm your attendance for Sunday 27th. Thanks
Also letting you know your PM's are off

  • +1

Hey guys, if anyone wanted to come to the meetup but is on the waitlist, there is another meetup I'm organizing at the same place on Sunday the 20th.

Please click the yes on the going if you want to come, just please be aware you can only come to one of the Planet Royale meetups.

Sooner the better as I'm hoping I can finalize the bookings today

  • +2

    Hey everybody,
The planner finally got back to me (shes been on leave/sick)
She said maximum of 8 people for all you can eat.
I'm asking if that means the remaining people can choose off the menu (as it doenst make sense and how are they going to manage or choose the special 8 people)
The food menu is in this link https://www.planetroyale.com.au/barcadiamenu
Thats where we are atm: we may choose this option (one main per person) or pick another venue
Im thinking of Royals' chicken and burgers - https://royals-chicken-and-burgers-northbridge.business.site… - check menu here:- reasonbly priced, people can choose their own dish
    What are your thoughts everyone?

    • Happy either way. Thanks for organising.

    • Hi mmd, I know the Bayswater Hotel is providing Buffet, they have a large dinning hall. For $30/pp without drinks. They have hot selections, cold selections, soup, desserts, and so on.

      • I was looking at it looks not bad at all

    • Happy with either option :)

    • Change venue to accommodate more :)

    • Order heaps of pizzas off the menu and everyone helps themselves to a slice.

  • +2

I am happy to choose off the menu from Planet Royal. The pizza's are 16 inch, enough for me.

  • The Bayswater Hotel sounds good. I'm sure they can cater for more then 8 people & there is more variety of food also.
mmd you should contact them as it could solve the numbers problem.

  • Hi I would like to register and confirm that I would like to attend for this date. I had voted for planet royale and would like to come. My name is Kim.

    Thanks

    • Hi Kim,
Sorry i thought u were a bot so i removed you from the list as i needed to get the numbers for shirts and bookings etc.
Michael is organising another party on Sunday 20th https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/733176
Please vote and msg there if you wish to attend.

  • +1

    Hi everyone,
The planner has got back to me.
Confirmed 8 ppl can have AYCE pizzas and the remaining will have to order off the menu - https://www.planetroyale.com.au/barcadiamenu
This can still work as the pizzas are large @16"- How big are standard Dominoes pizzas?
This can also work to our advantage. If the remaining people order ONE main dish off the menu, we can include soft drinks (Scotty is not paying for alcoholic drinks) - I will be ordering ONE main dish off the menu.

The majority of the votes so far is still to remain at Planet Royale - Im sure if the majority orders pizzas - there will be plenty to share around.
I have also PM'd everyone who has RSVP for the options - I will wait another day for replies above or to me personally.

Michael is organising a party on the 20th November at the same venue - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/733187
If you would wish to attend his, please let me know.
If you dont want attend this party, also please let me know.

This is going ahead in some shape or form! Hope to see you on the 19th.

    • how do we work out who gets to do AYCE Pizza? First 8 people to turn up?

      • +1

Do a dance and we'll judge the 8 winners? hahah just kidding
We'll see how we go - i'll send a huge pm to those who have rsvp.

Sorry Michaels 20/11 meetup is here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/733176
(thanks for the eagle eyes Chuns)

  • All you can eat Pizza is still probably the best deal at Pizza Planet for $35 but there are plenty of other interesting combinations that could potentially fill you up
    https://static1.squarespace.com/static/60c48ffdf424f2228e1ca…
Wings seem to be 500g as per menu - so that can be pretty filling on its own. Here are some potential combinations that will fit into the budget of $35, with some mixing between full pizza, slice of pizzas, burgers, pastas, salads, wings and sides-

    1)Prawn Pizza $35
    2) Pulled Pork Pizza $35
    3) Any other pizza $26 to $33 + something else within the budget
    4) Margherita Pizza $26 + 1 slice of Pepperoni pizza $4 + 1 slice of four cheese pizza $4 = $34
    5)Buffalo wings $15 + BBq wings $15 + 1 slice Margherita pizza $4 = $34
    6) Nacho wings $18 + Popcorn shrimp $16 = $34
    7) Chilli prawn linguini $25 + garden salad $10 = $35
    8) Royale with cheese burger $19 + Loaded fries $14 = $33

    • but if people don't use all of the $35 per person, we can get soft drinks for everyone….

  • +1

Ok everyone, the majority decision is to remain at Planet Royale!
If you do NOT wish to attend please let me know.

I am looking for 8 volunteers to participate in the all you can eat pizzas! Please reply to this post or send me a pm

Also some of you are bringing +1s who are adults. I will open the poll at some time for you to add your friends deets.

    Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I bring my SO to the meetup? What about kids?

Depending on the venues, some might not be kids friendly. Moreover, some venues can only fit a fixed number of guests so bringing more people on the day that were not previously registered to come might cause issues to the venue. As of bringing extra people to come to the meetup event:

You can bring an extra person, provided that he/she has an OzBargain account and has registered for the event (by voting Yes on the poll).

You can bring young kids who don't have an OzBargain account.

  • Hi MMD can you please confirm if you have our names - Sean and Kimmy 27 on either days - 19 Nov or 20 Nov. Thanks Sean and Kimmy 27

    • Hi Sean and Kim,
I am only organising the Sat 19th November now.
To answer your question: I'm sorry but it's way too late to RSVP now. As much as I would like to include everybody, the numbers have blown from 15 to 24 to 3X plus. Our Lord Scotty has also mentioned to keep the parties small.
I have to call the restaurant/email the planner each time so too much messing around.
Also the t shirts are on the way so I dont know how many I'm getting and adding more ppl means ppl could miss out.
You can request to be on the waitlist for Kim and yourself if there's any last minute cancellation. I know Michael is organising Sun 20th. Please vote and msg there if you wish to attend his (I know he's still finalising the deets)

  • +6

    Hi Everybody,
We are locked in for Planet Royale this Saturday.
Everyone to order their own dish and drinks up to $35.
I had a couple of ppl pm me to nominate for AYCE pizzas - please pm me or it'll be first come first serve.
A reminder that Scotty is NOT paying for alcohol. If you would like to drink alcohol, please pay at the counter.
    Cya on Saturday!

    From Scotty
Due to inflation, we will increase the budget to $35pp. Half of last year's meetups blown over budget anyway, but that does not mean there's no hard limit — please be moderate :) Also note that we cannot pay for alcohol. Some people might choose to order drinks in the meetup events. Sorry they'll have to pay themselves if it's an alcoholic drink.

    • Thanks a lot for organising mmd. See you guys on Saturday before 12 noon. Cheers :)

      • Yes great work Mmd. See you all on Saturday!

    • +1

See everyone there. I'll get there before 12, mmd, did you want a hand checking people in, etc? are we getting wrist bands or something so that PR staff know that people are legit OzBargain attendees?

      • Tha would be lovely cevad!

        • done :)

  • For dessert, we can go visit Ben and Jerry's!
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/735963

Edit: Judging by the recent comments, it's look like might not work.
