Recommended Courses - Financial Savviness

Hi all

Looking for a way to increase my understanding/grasp of personal finances - it can be free online resources or a paid structured course - would love suggestions or even discussion on this.

Hard to describe specifically what I am looking for but it could be summarised as 'financial savvy-ness' and imagine covering topics like the below

  • Long term financial planning - ie: retirement planning, investment structuring etc
  • Introduction to common investment products
  • Introduction/intermediate discourse on how to invest in shares/bonds and other instruments
  • Basic investment strategies
  • Tax implications of any of the above - eg, negative gearing, CGT & concessions, dividends and reinvestment plans etc.
  • Ideally, Australian-centric and covers things like superannuation and how to optimise contributions as well as in some cases how to access foreign capital/stock markets
  • Maybe some explanation of macroeconomics to be attuned to what to watch for and understand trends - ie, navigating a high inflation economy.
  • Even topics like when novated leases/salary sacrifices might be advantageous

I understand not all these items might be immediately relevant to me, and I understand that the internet would have a lot of specific resources - but the problem is sometimes I don't know what I don't know (ie, not even aware enough to list them out above or to google them)

So I would be keen for a course that covers a broad range of topics to increase my awareness of what I should think about - for context I am 31 but recognise that there is significant advantage in being conscious of these things early on to be well set up.
To be clear not looking for anything like 'how to retire early' or 'passive income strategies' - just learning to be sensible and prudent with income and savings over the long term.

Thanks!

  • Noel Whittaker Making Money Made Simple is a good starting point.

    Barefoot Investor isn't bad.

Money Magazine (free e-mag via local library).

What you are asking in your original post is a lot of reading depending on how much depth you wish to learn

    • Thanks for the pointers and will look into these
Happy to progress with depth over time, but starting with a 'fly over' to get a lay of the land.
