I thought this was a good deal too

  • +9

I didn’t realise bottle openers were this expensive

    • You can literally open a bottle with a spoon, so if cheap is your priority, I can’t argue with that.
But if you want one of the best (over?) built and good looking (subjective) opener, I highly recommend this and the OXO on Amazon.
Think of it as using stock TV apps and an Apple TV. Both get the job done, but the experience is different.
Plus some people collect branded bottle openers. FWIW these generally go for ~$30.

      • +5

I have a small collection of bottle openers (~10), tbh I don't really see the appeal and value proposition of this bottle opener.

      • +1

you can open a bottle with another bottle

    • I like expensive tools as they do work better and last longer then cheap tools but a bottle opener bar blade is as much as i will ever need and not be out matched.

  • +11

The Knipex combo set of pliers, side cutters and needle nose pliers is the cheapest it's been in quite some time at $91.95 as well. It's gotten a heap of votes at higher prices on Ozbargain before.

  • Most expensive L key?

    • Explained here.

  • +3

What's with the bottle opener? Seems very popular/hyped?

  • couple of others not listed that I have been watching and ended up grabbing. Both with the 12% buy two discount. The stubby set is really handy and a no brainer. The electric snips are insulated to 1000v

    Wera 5008870001 5 piece Stubby Set $25.13

    Knipex 78 06 125 SB Electroinics 125mm $28.36

edit: Stubby set already sold out and back to $40

    • +1

back to $25.13 but looks like they're loose and there's no case for them

  • Considering the discounts and that there are tech errors in the orders, don't be surprised is some of us miss out!!

  • +3

Goddamn it OP you just made me spend a shit-ton on Knipex (and quite a bit on Wera)… thanks, I guess?

Just kidding, genuinely thanks! I had some of these waiting on my 3 camels watch list for ages!

    • +1

You’re in a better position than me.
I bought most of my Wera & Knipex wares around 3 months ago for quite a bit more than what they cost now :(
Off the top of my head I paid $36 for the T-handle, $45 for the super knips etc. and thought they were at a good price.
Did pick up some more stuff to balance out the average cost..

      • +1

        Ouch.

And I thought I was doing so well with my budgeting and spending control. I think I spent the next 4 months worth of tools budget this morning. I guess it's an early Xmas present for myself.

Anybody else having trouble with UK orders? When I place the order it says it has gone through but doesn't provide a confirmation or order number and doesn't show in account.

    • people have spoken to their help team. There is a tech issue.

      • What's the solution?

      • Gotta be careful or you'll end up with a different product sometimes.

If they've stuffed the product IDs people could get the wrong things.

        • I placed several orders. Most came through instantly. I repeated one order and both times it hasn't worked so I guess depends on the order. Maybe the joker wrenches

    • I just made an order and it ghosted also. 5 items, all from Amazon UK. Nothing in past orders, no email, no charge and items left cart.

Edit: Just chatted to Amazon support. They confirmed my order did not go through and to make it again. Next one went through.

Edit #2: So after making that second order, the screen popped up with 'Order Confirmed'. I Click to see more. Get an error screen "To see your order confirmation, go to 'Your Orders'". There is nothing there. Order did not go through again. No email or charge, either.

      • After more CS chatting: tech issue. Wait 24hrs and try again.

        • +2

Got the same reply, basically Amazon au CS have no idea, sad.

          • @Fatboy43C: Orders are going through now. Some new issues present with things disappearing from the wishlist, but things are going through.

      • Just tried my order again; Didn't work. Miffed! These are good discounts. I was looking forward to expanding my Wera collection.

    • Yep me too. Two orders disappeared.

    • Orders are going through now. Some new issues present with things disappearing from the wishlist, but things are going through.

      • Orders placed now? Or old orders?

        • New orders placed now. If it didn't go through in the past few days, they assured me it didn't go through and wouldn't be charged.

  • Anyone else having issues where they place the order but it doesn't come thru? No email no recent purchase?

      Yeah, see above

9 Piece hex long set has gone up in price to $44.72

  • -1

why are the hex keys so expensive. How are they different to a set of $5 ones?

    • +7

      Honestly, Hex-plus are worth it.
After stripping out hex screws on my watch and the headache of removing them and finding replacements, I’ll never use cheap Allen keys on anything I remotely care about.
Would rather spend an extra $20 on a good set of key that won’t stuff up my $$$ equipment. The time and money saved is well worth the minuscule initial investment, even for home users.
At the very least, go Bondhus.

FYI, Hex-plus refers to the patented profile, making the hex key closer to a torx key, giving it more bite. It works, and since it’s patented, you won’t find it on other brands.

      • Thanks would you recommend the long version compared to the short ones? I wanted to get the long ones but their prices are back to normal when I found out about this deal

        • +1

The short ones are convenient to carry, but limited in utility - particularly with the larger sizes. The handles just aren't long enough to get sufficient amount of torque, and you often need it with larger sizes.

I've used both - if I were to pick only one, it'd be the long set.

    • +2

as someone who recently built something requiring over 1000 hex heads I can tell you there is a fairly notable difference. Cheap ones strip and stuff the heads after a while.

      However https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTBiPjCeVwI

Project Farm to the rescue, he tested a bunch basically said the Wera and and Wiha are the "best" but expensive

    • Lmao mate how are you this clueless? If you think $5 Allen keys from some crappy dollar store are going to work anywhere as well as these top end Wera tools, I’ve got a bridge to sell you.

  • +1

I was going to get the ratchet but it has so many 1 star reviews mixed in there with the 5 star reviews… I wonder if Amazon is shipping counterfeits from 3rd party suppliers.
I’m not risking it. Amazon is losing a lot of my business because of this.

    • +1

Amazon has a bad habit of using the same link for 3rd party sellers. Once I went to buy some Bodum glasses listed here from Amazon. Did not notice Amazon had sold out and link switched to a 3rd party sellers. Ended up with counterfeit product from China. Seller was independent of Amazon.

  • Suitable long bits for this? Mostly philips and flathead. I don't use fancy stuff

I was surprised that wera didn't seem to offer a kit?

      • Thanks. I'll have to go buy separates.. Only 4 of those are philips/flathead so the extra $40 is a bit much

        • Depending if you need a case to store them, it is $20-$30.

Maybe go with this Ratchet set at $43 with onboard bit storage. Has 2x PH, 2x Flat and 2x PZ bits. Note the shaft is not removable though. https://www.amazon.com.au/Wera-05073660001-Nut-Drivers/dp/B0…

          • +1

@Love_A_Bargain: I’d recommend against full-size Wera drivers with on-board storage (ratcheting or not). They tend to break where it snaps open in the middle. Plus the two halves shift around a bit in use when closed so they don’t feel sturdy.

The Stubby with onboard storage (snaps open at the end), does not have this issue.

If you want full-size drivers, go for the ones without on board storage.

    • This is also a good option

      • Not ratcheting though

        • +1

How about this one for $43.30 less discount

I own it and is one I carry around for work in my quick kit

          • @slipperypete: That looks good. Thanks

Edit: hm have skipped it based on the above comment

            • @justtoreply: what comment?

              • @slipperypete: By zonra. Only half a dozen comments up from here

                • +1

@justtoreply: ahh yes. They definitely don't feel as rigid as a good set of drivers. After using mine and then switching to a normal screwdriver it feels very different. That said, it's a convenience thing. I carry mine around with me at work but if I need it for heavy work I always switch out. I have the stubby as well but getting bits out is a PIA. With this longer handle I like pushing the cap and it springing open

As for breaking, I have had this one for a year. No issues yet but for a pricey tool that shouldn't happen.

  • I'm after a quality set of screwdrivers. Would one of the Wera sets be good value?

    • This is a really good well priced set for $44.81 less 12% for 2 buys. Ends are laser etched which really improves grip on screws.

      • +1

Cheers, purchased. (well attempted to anyway, seems most orders aren't going through).

  • +1

The popular Wera Tool-Check PLUS Bit Ratchet, 39 Pieces (Metric) is > 50% off at $88 or $77.69 (2 items are purchased) https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B00I8MYMT2?m=A3JCEYBC5L8UJ8&ref…

    • +1

No matter how many times I try to order this set, it never goes through to my orders. No email confirmation or anything. :(

      • I'm having the same issue.

        • Same here. Tried on the weekend and several times today. Mobile, Chrome and Edge all same result.

          • @ozstig: Same, ordered again today and nothing showed up

            • @whitehorse: When my order went through it charged ~$125 instead of $88 for it

              • @SpainKing: All of my orders when it was 88$ were cancelled. Don't know why you were charged 125$. Better cancel your order and get the refund

  • I've tried to place two orders, both aren't showing in orders and no email. :/

Edit 1: Tried on Mobile App and Website via a Desktop.
Edit 2: Tried two different payment methods although i know both Cards are fine (plus Amazon doesn't charge instantly, so shouldn't matter).

  • +1

This is a great price for the 'Wera 932/6 Kraftform Plus Screwdriver Set and Rack, 6-Pieces' for $39 ($34 if 2 items were purchased). I have a set and love it because I can hammer it like a chisel and use it as a pry bar sometimes. Very solidly built! https://www.amazon.com.au/Wera-Kraftform-Plus-Screwdriver-6-…

    • yeah I have this set…bought if for much more!! use it a lot. I think for some, the non impact may be better. There is the laser set which holds screws really well for $44.81

  • seems the hex / allen keys are gone, now $40+

  • Still can't buy the 4 items I tried to get.
Added to cart, chcked out, selected payment, address etc, then nothing….no order placed.
    Same as the other day

  • +2

I spent little over 1 hr to fix the no order appearing. Whats worse for me is my amazon credit was deducted and now I cant use that unless this order gets fixed who knows when.
The agents kept telling me speak to amazon japan for crying out loud. Finally they admitted it was an amazon au order then gave me $10 credit for the troubles. But they said they are still investigating and told me dont be surprised if the order gets cancelled as there is no such order.

Never had such terrible experience from an order.

    • Same here. Did you pay by gift card? They told me to contact Japan, which I did, they said Aussie support was wrong.

      • Yes. My gift card credit is locked and I cant even cancel the order. Goodness me!

    • I've spent 2 and a half with their customer support and been offered $5 promotional credit as a result. They've said to wait 2-3 business days and try again and that there's nothing they can do. I am quite displeased

      • +1

Even the $10 promotion credit I received is not enough for the extremely terrible experience I got from these muppets! I am quite displeased is an understatement.

  • What the different the 3 Allen keys set?

    • Metric/Imperial, Long/Short, Chrome Plated/Black Laser.

      • What we use in Aussie Metric/Imperial?

        • I’ve encountered both just from home use, but mostly metric.
          Best to have both.

          • @zonra: Out of curiosity why both? Aren’t they essentially the same same set, just labeled differently, one metric/one imperial. Or are the sizing a bit different?

I’m thinking of getting the imperial set now the metric price has gone back to original. But if size is going to be a problem, I won’t get

            • +1

@roofyapple: Metric and imperial sizing are different enough to matter with Allen keys. Bikes, ikea furniture all metric these days. Imperial getting rarer.

            • +2

              @roofyapple: What bean said.
I stripped hex screws in the past thinking it was “close enough”, especially with the smaller sizes. Definitely recommend owning both so that you can be sure you’ve got the correct size.

  • +2

Bottle opener still in stock, just need to select the correct seller, worked in app but not browser

  • Same placed two orders one with Knipex only went thru. 2nd with Wera doesn't appear tho they have deducted giftcard amount. Spoke to amazon, said there issue on there end will update in 2 business days.

  • Thanks OP, grabbed a pliers set!
