I barely use Netflix but have a few people borrowing my acc. I will just cancel my sub if they dare request further payment

    • can i borrow too ? pretty please

      • +5

        You got $3USD? lol

        • bargain

  • +26

Price going up but quality of new shows going down.

    • +15

They just seem to fling shit at a wall and see what sticks with their choices

      • +13

More like they just pump out the same formulaic crap over and over again, might as well be called Murderflix.

They need start taking chances on new ideas and please for the love of god create a navigation system which isn't so focused on a handful of recommendations, let me get a good look at the catalogue, and bring back actual ratings!!!

Love death robots. Brand new cherry flavor.

          • @brendanm: Will have to check them out. Unfortunately I didn't even know either of these series existed because of their annoying UI.

            • +1

@Cheaplikethebird: It is truly terrible. My wife's account just shows about a million true crime stories etc, mine is a bit more varied so comes up with other stuff. It's garbage.

              • +1

@brendanm: Yeah my partner just uses my profile so like I said… Murderflix haha.

                • +2

@Cheaplikethebird: Kotaro lives alone is another one.

                • +3

@Cheaplikethebird: It would be good if Netflix learned from tiktok, in that while serving you stuff it knows you like based on previous viewing, it also occasionally gives you something completely unrelated, on the off chance it matches one of your interests that it didn't know about. So it avoids getting narrower and narrower in its scope

                  • +2

@Quantumcat: Even just a section that shows all new releases in the last 3 months, one for films and one for series.

      • +2

Squid game. The Witcher. Stranger things.

        All great shows.

      • they just look how piss poor FTA TV is and know they dont need to buy quality shows

        • FTA usually has a couple of good movies on each weekend, even if they have ads

netflixes catalogue of good movies keeps shrinking by the day, so they add a shit load of bollywood / cheap foreign films to hide it.

          • @[Deactivated]: Foreign films are often far better than the formulaic garbage that Hollywood pumps out though.

            • +1

@brendanm: sometimes, but not always. i am mainly referring to the movies that are maybe a few years, to a few decades old, when i talk about netflix losing all their good movies. as far as i'm aware, netflix doesn't get most of the new crap until several years after it premiered.

So as I understand it Netflix detects a "home" by checking the IP address and if you want to use Netflix outside of the home like on the train, you'll need to pay this extra fee.

I'd cancel Netflix straight away if this was the case and just build a plex server.

    • +3

This would be the decider for me too.

    • +1

If this is the case I’d dump Netflix too.

    • +3

It'd have to be more complex than just 1 account = 1 IP address, too many issues with legitimate usage otherwise. If it's true, then they will definitely bleed customers.

    • +6

      by checking the IP address

That's….not how IP addresses work and would be a horrible way to do it. Dynamic IP anyone?

They'll likely use some sort of device identifier.

    • +3

There is no way they are considering tablets, phones etc in the mix of additional users, it will be fixed devices like TVs at different IPs that will be the main target of this

    • Your IP is likely not static unless you pay extra to your ISP for fixed IP. Restart your router you might get a new IP. So I doubt Netflix can do that.

      • +1

Probably multiple IPs at the same time.

        • Yep, this.

Though they would run into trouble with people using mobile devices. But they have probably been working on their device fingerprinting through the Netflix app to try and reduce issues.

          • @illogicalerror: I'm guessing the logs would show the type of device used. Mobile apps would probably be exempt. Would more likely be tied to Chromecasts, TVs, Consoles, etc.

    • +2

So if you regularly use a VPN on your device then Netflix will think you have hundreds of users on the account?

  • -1

    Good

  • +2

The beginning of the end for Netflix!

I currently get my Netflix through Foxtel so not sure how that's going to pan out.

    • +3

The beginning of the end for Netflix!

they said that about foxtel several years ago too…

  • +2

    Money grubbing corps

  • +1

Well this makes termination of my subscription that much easier.

  • +3

    Hope not.

I'm using someone else's account.. haha

    • +1

im using my brothers account, who lives in the US

      • Surprisingly US Netflix is more expensive than Australia.

        • Yep. I cancelled by US account and resubbed here. Unfortunately doing that caused me to lose all my saved history.

  • +8

Good luck to them. My parents use my rip off full price account. If they want me to pay even more, I'll just hoist the mainsail, and they'll get $0.

  • +1

That means we can no longer use a VPN to access shows from different region even though it is still the same user without paying extra. "Hello Netflix, it is still just me"…

  • -4

I'm OK with it and understand why they're doing it.

    • +8

$25b+ revenue, $5b+ profit, they can go to hell.

      • -1

        Umm….OK.

  • +1

    If that's true bye Netflix.

  • +1

Wait so even even if the other users are other people at your home they want to charge you more?

Instant cancel if that's the case.

    • No, it will only be people in other homes. They already have accounts for multiple screens in the same house.

  • +8

Best of luck to Netflix if they push this through. Will be last push a lot of people need to go and sail the high seas.

    • -8

So your too cheap to support programs you watch on netflix?

      • +6

It's already $23 a month for mostly rubbish. They allow multiple screens to be used, and 5 sub accounts.

        • Yep it's getting a little crazy. I'd say 90% of what they have is of little interest to me. Certainly couldn't justify the Xtra cost.

      • +5

We are already paying and I get their tact on this but I can't see it achieving what they think it will.

How about people who legitimately use their account between their own home and a holiday house. They seriously expect me to pay an Xtra $3/month at another home I own? Netflix are smoking the funny stuff if they seriously think this will increase revenue. More people will simply just dump the service rather than pay extra. Gonna hurt all these people who sell shares on accounts on here though.

  • This will finally convince my lazy butt to cancel it ;) Won't miss it.

  • This is also their way of cracking down on VPNs.

  • I never heard it coming

in preperation for this change it has launched a profile transfer feature to allow for people to take their favoiurites and watch history to their own accounts.

Pretty sure the 'extra people' sharing were mentally ready to never see their favourites&history again. If it doesn't 'out' them

  • Wonder what happens to the users who signed up with cheaper subscription fee using VPN payment hack. Will they take payment region into account as well?
