The KNIPEX pliers wrench, combining pliers and a wrench, is a real all-rounder and a vital part of any tool case. It replaces an entire set of wrenches, both metric and imperial. The new model with a length of 300 mm weighs around 80 g less than the previous model. Continuous gripping of widths across flats up to 68 mm (maximum 2 1/2"). Two practical laser-cut scales help to adjust the pliers wrench to the required width across flats (front metric, rear imperial) in advance. The gripping jaws can be adjusted quickly, reliably and conveniently using a push button. Thanks to smooth, parallel jaws, screw connections with sensitive surfaces, such as fittings, can also be screwed gently into place – all without any damage. In addition, the pliers wrench does not have to be removed when loosening or tightening nuts: The action of the gripping jaws permits screwing according to the ratchet principle.

  • I believe these are Youtuber's favorite pliers. I saw a few videos about them. Good pliers for people that need pliers often.

    • +2

That's more a shifter rather than pliers.

      • You are right, I meant Pliers Wrench. The videos that I was talking about were about this tool.

  • +2

I don't need this, but I love Knipex tools

    • +3

You need it. You just don't know it.

  • +5

Knipex pliers wrench are the bees’ knees.
But these are big ones which may not be useful around the house/garage. I reckon the 180mm or 250mm will fit in more places and open wide enough for most home handyman and automotive applications.

  • +5

These look like pliers but these are never used as pliers or mutigrips.

They should be used as a better alternative for shifting spanners OR a clamp and will not damage nuts, bolts or soft metals when used correctly.

They will not strip heads or mar soft metals with teeth marks.

I NEVER use a shifter as they cannot be used on site but these are an essential in kit for my work.

Edit: they are tricky to set and get used to but are amazing. Even for plastics

    • +3

      Why can't you use shifter?

      • +3

The jaws on a shifter open up as you use them, which rounds off the heads of bolts and nuts. For this reason, shifters although being convenient are a fairly poor tool. You can justify them in a home tool kit, but they should seldom be used or seen in a professional environment.

The handle on the pliers wrench applies a force to the jaws, and the jaws clamp down on your work piece. The jaws therefore don't slip and open up and you don't end up with a rounded bolt.

An essential piece of kit for any decent tradesman, and multigrips for the cowboys.

6% off if you buy 2

These are a great example of buy once cry once. I have a pair for undoing tapware to change the washers. works like a dream and grips without turning the tapware into a dogs breakfast.

  • +1

If you are handyman, this is undoubtedly essential tools, I've two different sizes and can't imagine how I'd lived without it before. Got them about 5 years ago for compatible price. This price is bargain.

  • +2

Good price, but please be aware that this is the old model not the new and current model as described in the OP's description. "The new model with a length of 300 mm weighs around 80 g less than the previous model."

Still an amazing tool, and good deal though.

Here is the current model version https://www.knipex.com/products/pipe-wrenches-and-water-pump…

The new model, besides being 80 g lighter, also has: a distinctively different lower jaw, metric and imperial size engravings (the old model has none), and also ribbed finger holds on the two arms just above the red handles - probably all part of reducing the 80 g of weight on a 680 g tool.

But as I said, still a great tool and good price.

For reference, here is an Amazon listing for the new model that it way too expensive.

For others interested in this deal - and it is a bargain for this tool - I can confirm my experience that although Amazon's listing shows the older model unit, they actually sent the newer model. Their listing (photos, specs on item weight, etc) are therefore incorrect. Only in their description does it mention the newer model's features, ie "Continuous gripping of widths across flats up to 68 mm (maximum 2 1/2"). Two practical laser-cut scales…"

I therefore recommend this deal especially with the additional 5% off if you buy another eligible item, but be aware that I may have been lucky to get the newer model.

  • What's the difference between something like this and https://www.amazon.com.au/Knipex-87-01-250-Atramentized/dp/B…?

My shifter is annoying with pipework so looking for something better.

    • +1

The jaws on the plier wrench (this deal post) always stay parallel. So think of it as a crescent wrench where the harder you turn, the tighter the jaw closes down on the nut (in parallel), maximising grips on the flat of the nut (no marring/damaging).
For the one you link, the jaws open and close like a normal pair of pliers (non-parallel), it still grips harder the more you turn so it can turn nuts very effectively, but because it uses teeth to bite into the nut, rather than pressing on the flat sides, it will mar and damage the nut.

      • Thanks!

Would you say this is a good deal for something a bit smaller (looks like the newer design also)?

        • +3

Yes, as per my comment here, I'd recommend the 180mm or the 250mm (the one you've just linked) for general home and automotive use.
According to Knipex, the 180 is capable for up to 1.5" / 40mm nuts and the 250 is capable for up to 2" / 52mm nuts.
I'm not a professional handyman or mechanic by any means but I haven't encountered anything that the 250 couldn't grab.
I have had situation where the 250's handles are too long to fit in the space which is why I tend to recommend the 180 over it.
