  • Is this the top of the line model as thought they were like 3k or something

    • 47cm? I think you get another inch or two for the top model.

    • They have a 52cm with double blade which is a newer model.
      https://sydneytools.com.au/product/ego-lm2136esp2-56v-100ah-…

      • Ouch that’s pricey just for a second blade.

        • And self propelled

You’d surely go everyone’s favourite Honda HRU216 at that price though

          • +2

@Lolitsjoel: Still gotta deal with fossil juice on that one.

      • Is there a way to tell the difference in power, was told the OP's one is self propelled aswell.

Thinking of getting a lawnmower but unsure which one has more power to cut biger/tougher grass and heard EGO is the best lawn mower in the country in terms of an alternative to a 4 stroke

  • Anyone know how the new models compare? Worth waiting for the new ones?

  • Used?

  • Seems like a good deal. I was always a sucker for the ads, marketed really well. Can anyone who owns an EGO mower in the trusted OzBanger community make a comment about their experience?

Got one of these a few back, bloody good mowers. You will probably want more than one battery to do a lawn thats not tiny though.

Much quieter and less maintenance than a petrol mower

      • +1

I think the quietness and not having to deal with petrol is probably the biggest advantage. Mower engines really don't need a lot of maintenance - can't say the same for small two-strokes engines. Oil change and an air filter clean/change every now and then will keep you running for a long time, but otherwise cleaning and blade changes consume most of a lawn mower owners time and there's no difference with electric. For me my lawn mower will probably be the last thing to go electric after replacing all my two-strokes.

      • +1

        Less maintenance.

My 30 year old 2 stroke Victa lives outside in the weather. all i do is some start Ya Bastard in the intake and 1 kick and its away and that's after all this rain we have and 6 months outside.

PS: spark plug was replaced 10 years ago and the spark plug lead is a screw threw the end. so the Maintenance narrative is not correct for 2 strokes anyway..

        • Pretty much same as my four stroke mower…though I don't leave it out all the time.

But I know that I should probably treat it better! I'd still like to replace it with a battery powered machine. The 4-stroke is big, noisy, heavy, and simply won't die, no matter how much I neglect it!

    • +2

I have the bigger self propelled mower and it is brilliant. Sold my self propelled Honda and happy with my decision. It came with a blower which is powerful and when you hit a certain button, things happen!

    • +2

Bloody good pieces of kit. 5amp battery will handle 200sqm of yard just fine, the catch is awesome as it genuinely vacuums the cuttings in, and the cut is perfect.

My only issue, if it is one, is the cut length minimum is probably too long if youre wanting shorter, more manicured, grass

    • +1

I currently have an older bigger model that I bought 2nd hand a couple years ago - lm2000 I think. Love the mower, quality is better than any other battery mower I've seen/used and probably won't buy another brand. My battery is starting to die before i finish the lawn and figured an upgrade is better than a costly new battery.

    • The Mower is Effing Shite.

My 30 year old smoker leaves it for dead, so much so, it's what i use now.

The blower is great, but chews batteries like a kid in a candy shop.

PS: I have had 3 batteries and 1 charger back for warranty, with hardly any use.

      • Hmmm, that's a story I wasn't hoping to hear… I purchased a Bosch electric mower in 2012 and it's still on the original battery.

I want to upgrade just for a new toy, but might wait it out until mine is dead.

I bought the 52cm self driver version last year. At the time, it came with a 10 ah battery and the blower skin. With the deal, EGO offer a 2.5 ah battery for the amount being spent. Took quite a while to get the 'free' battery however the smaller battery pairs great with the blower.

Mower using the 10 ah battery can do my 800 square meter block easily without using the self propel. If I use the self propel, it drains the battery a fair bit quicker but can just get the lawn down. Guess that this the beauty of having a second battery, if it runs flat, swapping in a new battery takes seconds.

I agree, if you have long grass, the mower can cut out and stop. Even more so if grass is wet.

After 1 year, the grip handles are showing signs of wear. For the price point, that is pretty disappointing…

Happy to answer other questions if you have them.

I have this combo. It's great. Well designed, works well and is robust unlike some of the other brands. I have a single battery and do about 200m2 of grass with no problems with enough left over for the blower. When it does run out the charger is fast albeit noisy.

  • The only thing I don't like about my ego is you can't slam the throttle to punch through a thick part. It's just one speed and if that's not enough, it just stops.
Rarely happens but the 4 stroke just feels more powerful.
I'd still choose the electric as I have a lot of lawn, tight corners and slope. Very easy to manoeuvre. Takes me 2x5ah to do my lawns.

    • Does yours not automatically go into some kind of turbo mode when you hit thicker patches? I have the 52cm SP and it does that.

      • Never heard the motor change rpm for speed.

        • +1

Interesting! I used to have the LM2102E-SP and it says on the product page on Ego website that is has a the feature of "Integrated load sensor that monitors the motor, and regulates RPM based on load conditions". Basically.. hit thick grass and it instantly spins up like crazy.

I've now got the newer LM2135E-SP and it does the same thing… but doesn't list it as a feature on the Ego website.

I wonder which Ego models do and don't have the variable speed thing under load.

    • Does your ego mower not have a brushless motor?

      • LMBL1903E-SP 47cm deck. I believe it is brushless.

  • +1

I have the 47 cm self propelled from a previous deal with free blower. I have 1200 sqm block which it does plus inner nature strip on one 5 ah battery if the grass is not too wet and if I don’t use the mulching plug. We’re on a country street with outer nature strips the size of suburban blocks and with the recent rain it takes another battery charge to get through that as well. Also have the Powerload line trimmer which I love. It’s charger failed under warranty and Ego replaced it with the newer rapid charger so happy camper.

    • When you don't use the plug, are you using the catcher? Can't imagine trying to use the catcher on that much lawn!

  • +1

If you ask nicely, Total Tools will probably price beat

  • LM2135ESP 52cm is also $999
    Can't determine which is better

    • Where are you seeing this for $999?

      • +1

Think it's a in store special only in Melbourne used to be $1250 so only 250 off

        • Thats a pretty good deal, which store in melb were you at?

          • @oohaah: If it was the 6e updated version it would be good price but for this unsure if its worth getting over the OP's one.

            Saw it at Preston

  • Very tempting. Can anyone confirm if this actually qualifies for the redemption? It doesn't show up when I clicked the "selected products" link in Total Tool WA. However, the same mower, without the blower, is there at $1049:

    https://www.totaltools.com.au/141646-ego-56v-brushless-470mm…

So I'm guessing the $999 version is not eligible for redemption as it is cheaper AND comes with a blower worth $299.

I'm after a line trimmer too. If the $999 is eligible, that makes it worthwhile getting a $299 line trimmer since I can redeem a 2.5Ah battery . The $199 33cm line trimmer that is available as a redemption gift has some pretty terrible reviews unfortunately. Otherwise it's just a matter of adding a cheap accessory to the mower combo and redeeming the 33cm trimmer.

    • +1

I got the $999 kit (LMLB1903E−SP) plus shoulder strap (AP1500) from TT and went to https://egopowerplus.com.au/redemption to redeem a 2.5a battery. If you go into 'register your claim', you can select the eligible item type and model number, as well as store of purchase from the drop down menu to make sure everything meets the criteria before you make your purchase.

I was also thinking of replacing my line trimmer with the 33cm line trimmer skin but didn't after seeing the reviews. For me, the shoulder strap on the blower is useful if paired with a 5a battery, however, when paired with a 2.5a battery it feels unnecessary to me.

      • Legend! Thanks for sharing!
What trimmer did you go with eventually?
From reviews, it appears that any of the Powerload (super easy line reloading!) models are heaps ahead of the 33cm budget model?

Such as this, which is the next price up from the 33cm:
        https://www.tradetools.com/ego-56v-35cm-powerload-with-teles…

I don't think I really need self propelled on a 150sqm lawn, but the push version is only 420mm vs the SP 470mm.
The lawn is quite uneven, so maybe the self propelled can help. Pushing an Ozito steel deck mower is killing me.
The Ozito 2 X 18V line trimmer too, is too heavy for my old back. It's okay for cutting weeds or slashing at a small area of grass. But for edging and going around walls and obstacles, it's a pain.

        • +1

I got the aeg 18v line trimmer kit from bunnings because I already had some credit to use. It works better than what I had previously, however the 4a battery runs out after about 20 mins of use, and takes an hour to charge. There is also an extra piece of guard they recommend you add, and it blocks some vision when edging. That said, I might still get this again based on my needs.

From what I read, the ego trimmer battery runs longer, however I haven't used it so can't comment.

I use the sp function on the mower as I have an uneven and sloping lawn. I also have some overhanging trees and using the sp means the mower can go through with me standing further away rather than directly behind the mower.

          • @jimbargain: Thanks for sharing again. You've sold me on the self propelled as I am having trouble pushing close to the hedge without getting caught on the branches.
It's a corner plot so sloping and uneven too.

20mins is quite…limited. Am using an Ozito 18V edger and it's brilliant, but still needs a trimmer to clean up the bits that the edger can't do.

Fingers crossed that the Powerload trimmer is as good as claimed.

Just had a go on the redemption website. Happy to report to that is it on the drop down list of eligible products!
