Ozbargain is turning 16

Neil has planned a meetup event at Dad N Dave's Brewing and I have offered to organise it.

Date: Thursday 17 November 2022
Time: Meet up around 6.30PM
Location: 45 Mitchell Road Brookvale 2100 NSW

If there is interest, we can organise a special OzBargain-based trivia on the night.

As for food/soft drinks, it will be on a tab so you can order anything you like.

Alcoholic drinks will have to be purchased separately

  • Not too far from Barangaroo. I could go after work.

    • -2

how to go there from barangaroo?

      • There's a bus that goes from Wynyard Station (B1). It would take me roughly 50 minutes to get there, not too long.

        • +3

40 minute ride on 176x/177x/B1 — not my definition of "not too far".

I know Brookvale NSW is quite out of one's way (lack of public transport)

Especially if you're from south-west Sydney. 50km journey one way for me by car; pass for me. Good to see that the Northern Beaches are getting some OzBargain love though.

      Muahahahaha. The tables have turned!

I like to attend OzBargain meetups, learn as much as I can about other local OzBargainers (my competition), and then use that to my advantage when hunting for low stock deals…

    • But you've yet to attend a single one?

      • Where are you getting your stats?

        • +4

Your lack of a Not a Bot Badge.

          • +9

            @kerfuffle: Ah ok, nice.

That's easy to explain. I am a bot, so did not qualify for the badge, despite attending.

  • Should the poll be revokable? It's still a month away…

Just to confirm, will all food be paid by ozbargain and will drinks be paid by the attendee?

    • +4

Yep. Lobster Mornay and a glass of tap water please.

    • will all food be paid by ozbargain and will drinks be paid by the attendee?

Yep, all food will be paid by ozbargain. I'll have to check with Neil on non-alcoholic drinks. Alcoholic drinks will be individually purchased by the member.

      • Yep, non-alcoholic is fine.

Keep in mind the Thursday specials:

Get core range pints for only the price of a midi plus a $10 Cali burger from our food truck!*

Looks like it's around $6-$7 for a bunch of pints (4-6pm). Cheap!

    Going! My backyard literally

Would 8pm be too late to arrive?

  • How is it looking? Is it gonna happen?

    • +1

Yes it's happening - I already have an email discussion in progress with the venue.

  • Update 4/11/2022

Confirmed with venue it has been locked in for 17 November @ 6.30pm

  • how do I join? do I just press the "Yes, I'm attending" button? do I need to do anything else?

    • Yep that's it, nothing more.

      • cool thanks! :)

  • Can you please cancel my yes vote - sorry.

    • +1

I just enabled vote-changing for this poll. You can now change to No or simply revoke your vote

      • I probably can't make this event.

  • cant wait to see the ozbargain community. this is my first ozbargain event. just a note: i am bringing 3 kids along… initiating the next generation of ozbargain community followers.

  • Update (14/11/2022)

    • Reminder: event is this Thursday 17 November @ 6.30PM
    • I've given the numbers to the venue (expecting 30) to be attending - no cap on numbers
    • If you are bringing +1s, please ensure they have an account and registered to the event
    • Food/drinks will be on a tab (just mention you are with Ozbargain) - alcohol will need to be purchased individually menu

I will need to scan your QR code when you arrive: Please see event check-in page

    • Take out your phone, open OzBargain and make sure you are logging into your account
    • Go to My Account, and navigate to view → events page
    • If you have registered for this event, there should be a QR code there for this event. Show it to me, or other co-helpers who can check you in.
    • Have a scanned to say you are here!
    • You'll be awarded Not-A-Bot badge at the end of the day.

They also have trivia @ 7PM. Not sure if you guys are interested but we can always join with the general public

I have also picked up T-shirts from Chinatown event (limited supply, so first come basis):

    • 5 - small
    • 5 - Medium
    • 5 - Large
    • 2 - XL
    • 2 - 2XL
  • I still don't see the QR check in code, does anyone have the same issue?

    • Maybe because it's not the 17th?

      • So the QR code will appear on the day of the event, will it appear in the morning or 1 hour before event start?

        • There is no point getting the QR code an hour before the event starts as it will expire by the time you get there.

    • +1

I've now activated the check-in system. Your QR code is there now. As above when actually checking in, open it when you're in the venue.

      • Working now, I can see the QR code, looking forward to meeting some ozbargainers tomorrow, good night

    • Please note that

      • QR code is usually available on the day of the event (unless enabled early by the moderators). It would be available for the whole of 24 hours.
      • Getting QR code early is pointless, as it regenerates every minute, and QR code older than 10 minutes can't be used for checkin.
  • +1

I’ve arrived at the venue, so can come earlier if you’d like.

I’ll giving poker chips for the food/drinks, been advised 1 poker chip = 1 item on the menu

  • Entertainer guy is real noisy

Great night out. Thank you for organising imposter. I will put my hand up to organise next year. Scotty can you poke me closer to the date of The next birthday events?

  • +1

Great job organizing it @impostor and thanks for the budget @scotty

  • +4

Thank you to everyone who attended and made the event in the Northern Beaches possible. Hope you had a fun time socialising with other Ozbargainers as well as playing the trivia. It was great meeting you all! Thank you to the team @ Dad N Dave's brewing for hosting us.

To put some numbers into perspective, we've went slightly over budget equating to around $41pp (possibly due to those non-alcoholic beer)
