[NSW, QLD] 25% off Car Insurance (IAG Brand) for First 6 Months @ ROLLiN' Insurance

740
BDAY25

Rollin Insurance (rebranded from Poncho) is offering 25% off their month-to-month insurance premiums for the first 6 months. This is currently the best offer I could find for insurance across all providers (~30% cheaper compared to the best quote I could find if I stay with them for 6 months, and ~19% cheaper if I stay with them for full year).

Website looks shady, but they are underwritten by IAG and was recommended along with Bingle as one of the cheap providers in previous OzB threads.

Where are they operating? I just got a generic message saying they aren't insuring people in my area (Coburg, VIC) at this time…

    • +6

We are so grateful you took the time to get a quote with us for registration ****** but unfortunately, we don’t insure cars in your area 3172 at the current time.

      • +4

        flooding?

its not unusual for companies to not accept new quotes in areas that are flooded or on fire or…,

        • 3172 is DIngley/Springi South. Dont think thats a high flood risk area though

    • You're in a high risk area. There's a lot of accidents coming off Sydney Road and Bell Street.

    • +10

its basically rebranded NRMA insurance specifically aimed at young people. NRMA doesn't service VIC (I work for IAG)

      • This is like the brand they tried 6-8 years ago and ended up closing it down. (cant recall what it was called. Maybe e-ventures or something like that)

      • RACV does as part of the IMA JV.

    • Same!

Where are they operating? I just got a generic message saying they aren't insuring people in my area (Coburg, VIC) at this time…
Coburg is pretty scummy, maybe that's why?

  • Not clear which all areas, but I was able to get a quote for Sydney region.

    • Same, and it's actually 30% less

  • +1

Do you think this will apply for existing customers too? I'm currently on a monthly contract with Rollin.

    • +1

I'm in Sydney and I've been with Rollin (nee Poncho) for a few years now, even made a claim through them and they were VERY helpful.

It will be interesting to see if they extend this offer to existing customers too.

    • +1

I am also with them. Would like to know if they honour it for the existing customers.

      • +3

I contacted them and they cancelled my current policy. They then asked me to get a new quote and proceed with that one effective the next day.

  • Does anyone know how to avail of the discount for an existing customer?

    • -3

Yeah same I bet you no

My Mazda 3, valued 10k less then my wife's Rav4 cost about $30 dollars more..Rolld wouldn't disclose why.

      • +6

Vehicle value is just one component of the premium. Many other factors can affect your premium - it's not that Rollin' wouldn't disclose but it is much more sophisticated than you think and the front line staff is not trained to explain premium difference accurately.

Other factors that can affect your premium: repair/spare parts cost, age, gender and many more.

    • Hot damn!

Wonder if we used a different postcode, then change it afterwards, will it still work?

      • As mentioned by the other member above, Rollin' doesn't operate in VIC :(

        • -1

Keep on rollin' boys, rolling over to NSW and then you can get Rollin' cover

        • Does exclude any other states/territories in Australia?

        • thats odd. I live in VIC and have had them since 2020

  • +5

I have been with them for about 2 years. Signed up when they were “Poncho Insurance” and I am still on the 30% COVID discount on the already cheaper than any other insurers’ premium.I haven’t had any claims, so can’t comment on the claims experience. I am sticking to them because their inclusions and premium are best in the market and the fact that this is owned by IAG who apparently evaluating a new model of Car insurance. One of the best features is you can add or remove additional cars and drivers on the go with immediate effect and premium is paid only for those days accordingly. Very helpful when lending car to friends and family or borrowing someone else’s car.

I have recommended it to many people in 2 years but very frequently get feedback that they can’t insure in their suburn or the car model they own. Probably they only offer their services at low risk locations.

  • +4

Their calculation for the market value is less than half of the actual worth of the car, even after the 15% 'Boost'. Lol.

With Allianz the minimum agreed value is double of what these guys are offering.

    • With Allianz

How much more is the premium though?

      • $79/month with Rollin (including the discount) vs $98/month with Allianz.

    • +2

They just quoted 29k for the car I paid 18k for on the weekend.

      • +1

        lmao classic

      • +1

Would be such a shame if there were floods in your area…

  • +2

This is currently the best offer I could find

depends on your driving record, your car and especially your location…

    • -7

Can you srsly stop writing a bold word in almost every comment you make

      • +2

        why?

        • It triggers his 0Cd

        • +1

Writing in block letters implies that you’re yelling something, using block letters falls under a similar scenario as such

      • -3

If you start contributing as much as jv then maybe you can dictate how jv formats their sentences.

        • Lots of contribution/deal posts from them in the last 4 years I see.

      • +1

Hot tip i got from here years ago: you can block specific user comments in your settings.

    • Thanks jv for the enlightenment. I did not know that.

  • I found the quote cheap. It appears they only offer comprehensive with a $800 excess.

  • An error occurred
Oh no! Something went wrong here. Please try again soon…

  • Where do you put the code? Went all the way to 6.Pay tab but couldn't locate where you apply the code

  • +1

No coverage in Vic 3023. No flood issues around this area but plenty of ferals flogging cars.

    • Can confirm feral postcode area

  • Thanks op!

  • Nope… $117.54/month
I think budget was $800 a year or so

  • -3

Since they're a budget brand of NRMA, looks like they don't do VIC.

Poncho should have been kept as a name for the mexicans :)

    • They are operated by RACV in Victoria. Not sure about other states

  • +1

Not available in VIC, it seems

    • Yeah, tried 3 postcodes. They all didn't work

  • available in different areas, I have a Policy with them, last time I was checking to add our second car (oldish European SUV), it did do quote, but was working if adding as a second car under existing policy, so it works/doesn't work for some areas/cars etc.

I sent an inquiry to them regarding a discount for existing members, let's see what they reply.

    • Interested to know as well. Thanks.

      • +2

        Hey Ametric,

        Thanks for your email!

That's right birthdays gifts all around. Everyone can be a part of Rollin's 1st birthday, just enter the code BDAY25 and get quoting!

If you want to get a new quote using the same email or take out your new quote, we will need to cancel your current policy. If you want to do that please provide the following info:
        Your full name
        Date of birth
Full address including state and postcode
Confirmation you want us to clear your email address

Just a heads up, I'm only able to discuss specific policy information with listed Policy Holders, and not Listed Drivers on a policy and Terms and Conditions apply.

Reach out if you have any questions.

        Cheers

        • +1

          Thank you! I'll do that.

          • @Baby Noodles: I will check a new quote later too!

            • @Ametric: They cancelled my old one after I told them I got a new quote. My current cover ends today and the new cover starts tomorrow.

              • @Baby Noodles: I tried a new quote, and it says that doesn't work in my area. I sent them an email to get back to me on how to do that trick :)

  • Not available in 3171 or 3071

  • +1

RolliN' isn't available in victoria as it is an offshoot of NRMA and they do not service victoria

    • +1

Wrong. I’m in Victoria (south eastern suburbs) and have been with rollin for 18 months

      • +1

were you with poncho to begin with?

        • -2

          Yes. Poncho first.

          • +2

@lwinstan: yah, that'd be why then, same as CGU being phased out in the western states and policies migrating to NRMA. Can't take out a CGU policy direct unless you go through a business partner (i.e People's choice) and have eixisting policies with CGU

      • Same here. SE suburbs also.

    • to me there's nothing more at polar opposites than NRMA and Rollin'

NRMA is a fuddy duddy boomers insurance company for your $100k LC200 and your three axle caravan…

Rollin' is trying very hard to be hip and with "Fellow Kids" vibe.. when really they are just as offshoot of US giant IAG… which is one of the scummiest places I've ever worked at… with one of the scummiest reps… and that's saying a lot because they're a US insurance company…

      • Pretty sure in VIC they are run by RACV. I’ve been with them for over a year and had claimed not long ago (no fault). They were pretty good to deal with. Even replaced 2 baby seats for new ones up to $1000. The only downside was they only covered 21 days hire car. With covid repair of cars can take 2-3 months to repair so it didn’t come close to covering us with a rental. Thankfully the place we have the car repaired us gave us a good courtesy car for the duration of the repair.

      • +1

IAG stands for Insurance Australia Group and it is Australian, not US

Both NRMA and Rollin' insurance are offered by IAG

      • +1

IAG is aussie. they own NRMA, CGU, Swann, RolliN, RACV, SGIO, SGIC and WFI. enjoy your options

        • IAG don't own RACV - they are part of the IMA JV.

          • @ihbh: "These products are distributed by RACV and manufactured by Insurance Manufacturers of Australia Pty Limited (IMA), which is owned 70% by IAG and 30% by RACV."

      • +1

That’s AIG mate, the one which was bailed out by US government during GFC in 2008. Now where did you work? 😀

      • +4

@tonyjzx - You're getting IAG and AIG mixed up.

Easy mistake to make, but I don't get how you can mix it up if you used to work there.

    • I am insured with them and am in Victoria. Have been since they first came out as Poncho.

How come they used to do vic but now don’t? And existing customers in vic can continue on?

      • I think because they are run by RACV. Not sure why they don’t take new customers. I’m same like you. Been customer for a while since poncho.

  • Not cheaper than a couple of quotes ive gotten recently.

  • +1

There is no easy way to know if this is a real discount or not.

Look through reviews of different insurers in different price tiers, and you will see the recurring theme that you get what you pay for. The cheap ones will try to find every excuse not to cough up if you actually need to make a claim. And if they do cover you, they make you do the runaround for quotes or limit you to a crappy repair place.

I have been with RAC, and they have been great to deal with. No hassle at all, choice of repairer, etc.

    • That’s not this mob. I’ve been with rollin insurance for a while and made a claim earlier this year. Car got repaired there was 17k damage. They took care of it all. I wouldn’t say these guys are cheap either. They aren’t a no frills insurer like budget or bingle. They provide good benefits with claims. They could extend free hire car longer than 21 days but that would be the only think they lack. Choice of repairer is also not a deal killer. Most ppl don’t even have a repairer to choose and would want to be recommended one. Those that do usually pick a relative or friend that try to screw the insurance company with dodge quotes that get unapproved and delay the process.

      • I don't know them, so I'll take your word for it.
Choice of repairer means you can pick a reputable business, rather than the "lowest bidder". I have heard of many people who had to get their car repaired far from home (because the insurer only used a select few places), and had to wait for a long time to get it back. When you're time-poor, it's pleasant if you can pick a place that suits you.

  • $6/month cheaper than my existing Insurance with AAMI, had it been for 12 months would have taken it but too much pain for 6 months!

  • Waiting for somebody to post this https://youtu.be/RYnFIRc0k6E

  • +1

So after 6 months it would increase back to normal?

    • +1

yes, add 25% to the monthly premium after 6 months. Nothing stopping them from increasing the monthly premium after the first month either.

      • Thanks mate probably not worth hassle as after 25% it works out the same for me.

  • I'm in 3170 and been with Poncho/Rollin about 2yrs.

  • I have been with them for 2 months to insure my Tesla. Since it’s month by month I’ll just cancel my current policy and sign up new one with the discount

  • +1

I was with these guys a while.

At the time, they were the best value i could find. Friendly efficient comms, and there are also referral codes on Ozbargain which may work with the above (keep going and you'll find a $100 cashback one).

Perfect for young drivers, they don't have the 'inexperienced driver excess' that many providers have, and they valued my car at a much higher rate than any others.

It's easy to add drivers to the policy any time online.

Sadly, they are strictly private use only. If you claim ANY part of your car as a business expense or tax deduction, it could technically render your insurance invalid.

  • No Roadside Assitance?

  • so does every driver need to be named like a mate can't drive as a one off?

    • If they live with u they must be named. Otherwise they cover one off drivers but the excess is usually a lot more to claim.

  • went for a quote for my 2013 Outlander, got this message -

We are so grateful you took the time to get a quote with us but unfortunately,

We don't insure your car due to it's age

    um, ok.

    • Same for my 2011 Lexus, it's not considered new by any means I got that, but too old to insure? Damn, I don't know.

  • +1

People need to factor not just the discount of the insurance premium, but also the claims process if you were to make a claim.
There are some difficult insurers to deal with out there….

  • Damn just signed up with AHM insurance today.
