Flying to Melbourne tomorrow for a week.
Plan was to drive to the 12 Apostles along the Great Ocean Road. Is it safe?
Any apps or suggestions how to keep myself updated of the situation and get alternate routes?
Edit: while you're at it, would love some recommendations to do on the road.
Whoa, Geelong seems badly impacted, so I guess plans are cancelled.

The highway bypasses Geelong and is nowhere near the Barwon River.
All the Geelong CBD and along the coast should be fine too if you plan to visit Geelong but it's not recommended as it is full of Geelong AFL supporters.

@jv: Is there a quintessential map i can load on Google maps and drive.. i did find some but the legends only shop up on maps web and not on the app in drive mode…
@archieduh: Not sure, I just use Waze these days mainly for notifications of police/speed cameras etc.

Few road works along the way, but not so bad.

@jv: I suppose they were lucky there weren't on the span, but they were unlucky they were on that end.
Between cliff rock falls, the waves rolling over rock shelves, the spray from blow holes, etc people need to be careful around the sea formations. Then throw in a rip tide, jelly fish, sharks etc. Hmmmm. I wonder where we get the reputation that everything in Australia is trying to kill us? :)
