  • good price! got any 7/8th gen mini pcs deals available op? :)

  • +4

I owned this exact one before upgrading to the 7070SSF and I miss these machines so much. These were reliable and had the front fan, so kept cool and quiet. The DVD drives were also a lot better than the newer models. Windows 11 isn't supported, but you'll have updates until 2025 for Windows 10. You also have a single PCIe x16 and a single PCIe x4 slots, which allows you to run low profile graphics card and WIFI/Bluetooth

    I had the follow cards
    1) Intel WI-FI 6 Gig+ Desktop KIT (great kit ~$40)
    2) NVIDIA Quadro NVS310 (crappy used $20 card that worked fine for production as I had problems with onboard DP ports)

      Thanks for the mainboard photos

      • More than welcome. Thanks for posting a great deal :)

        • What did you use it for?

          • +1

@Ryanek: Just productivity / old school games and YouTube / Facey / study etc. I ran 16GB with a 512GB M.2 and it was more than enough for what I needed. I should have kept it, but warranty was up

  • Wish it was the i7 version. Need the 8 threads.

Coud I get my 4090 in there ?

    • +17

4090: Look at me, I'm the motherboard now…

    • +4

Sure you can, just with this one simple hack.

      • A fairly simple hack… literally

    • There’s a better chance you could fit this into the 4090…

  • Been wanting to give Blue Iris a go for some cameras at home (QNAP's software is pretty poor) , so one of these should be a decent little setup

hows this for a plex hosting server?

    • -1

"I have no idea but I just felt the urge to comment"

        • -1

I do infact have an idea, as u can see from me commenting. Since i dont own one i asked if someone thinks im wrong then they can correct me. its not quantum mechanics

If you want to transcode in 4K you need at least a i7 3.2GHz.

      • Most I do is 1080p so should be fine right?

        • Interested to know as this would be my use case too.

        • This is good for 1080. I have a similar set up and works without issue

      • Who transcoded 4k

      • I think with QuickSync the i5 will do 1 or 2.

      • My 4770k, an i7 with 3.5Ghz struggled to transcode a single 4k to 1080p.

With PlexPass you can hard ware transcode with even a Celeron G5900. The iGPU would be doing all the work.

        • Yes struggled, i7 is the bear minimum

    • It’s very good if you don’t need to transcode. I’ve been using this for over a year then added a Quadro P620 and Plex pass. Been able to transcode 5-7 1080p simultaneously.

Plex can make use of Intel Quick Sync- To make the most out of this unit, you'll want to drop in a Kaby Lake CPU (7500/7700).

      From Wikipedia:

      Version 5 (Skylake)
The Skylake microarchitecture adds a full fixed-function H.265/HEVC main/8-bit encoding and decoding acceleration, hybrid and partial HEVC main10/10-bit decoding acceleration, JPEG encoding acceleration for resolutions up to 16,000×16,000 pixels, and partial VP9 encoding and decoding acceleration.

Version 6 (Kaby Lake, Coffee Lake, Whiskey Lake, Comet Lake)
The Kaby Lake, Coffee Lake and Comet Lake microarchitecture adds full fixed-function H.265/HEVC Main10/10-bit encoding and decoding acceleration and full fixed-function VP9 8-bit and 10-bit decoding acceleration and 8-bit encoding acceleration.

    • The Intel® HD Graphics 6xx series and newer seems to be what people aim for. This one has a 530. Probably still good as it does have QuickSync.

  • you got any 300+W PSU for a 7050 SSF ?

  • +1

Do you have anything that will fit 2x 3.5" SATA HDD's? That's on top of a SSD OS drive. Thanks.

  • I want a PC for backup.

Can I install some 3.5" drives in this computer?

    • +1

It can take a single 3.5" drive (as well as a single NVMe).

      • There are 3 SATA ports + M.2 slot

Five months ago, I bought a refurbed Dell OptiPex 7050 for $239 delivered. It has a 256 Gb SSD and no optical drives or inbuilt WiFi.

It came with a mini WiFi dongle and works well. It is tiny and quiet.

  • I miss the Optiplex $109 5040 deal early this week from fusetech.

    • With shipping on that deal, this is only $20 more (at least for the price it quoted me shipping when I looked at that deal)

    • 7040 for $20 extra is worth it. It's the next level up in quality / function

  • Any Intel 8 series with Windows 11 compatibility?

  • i got one on ebay+ & saved $20..

    Went with the 16gb option $199 - $20

  • How would one of these go connected to a tv playing local 1080p and the occasionally 4k file through VLC?

  • Nice, bought one to give to my in-law who’s currently using my gaming pc for web surfing and playing poker 24/7.

  • The listing says VGA output is possible - is this ready to go out of the box? I'm looking to connect both a HDMI monitor as the main and a second monitor through VGA.

    • VGA is out of the box on 7040's

  • Clicking on the above link for a refurbed Dell OptiPlex 7050 with a 256 SSD shows a price of $199. The machine appears to have inbuilt WiFi.

I paid $239 delivered for a similar machine 5 months ago.

  • Anyone know if these support vPro?

  • +1

Grabbed one of these as my current HP G1 and Dell machines have expired. These have DDR4 which is currently plentiful and cheap.

  • I've had a few days of travelling, so I had spotted this deal, but wasn't able to action until today. Checking the website, it now shows :- 7040 - Sold Out, 7050 - Sold Out, 5050 - Sold Out. :(

    Deal over?

    • +1

Hi NatDan, yes sold out - sorry - if you email [email protected] we will see what else we have for you.

  • Are orders being shipped out soon??

    • Hi he88388 we are working our way through the orders - a bunch packed and sent yesterday, most of the rest if not all will be sent today :)

      • Op, will we get the tracking number?

  • Any chance you've got any Dell Wyse thin clients, like a 3040 or 5060. Something small and cheap. Thanks.

  • Hey Robban,

We don't have any 3040 or 5060 - but do have N03D Thin Client - Dual Celeron, send us an email to [email protected] if you want to discuss further.

  • I know it's sold out but could this form factor take an extra 3.5inch HDD on top of the included ssd?

  • I received mine today. the quality exceeds my expectation. Good tiny office PC for cloud gaming!

    • Still waiting for my. Op, have you shipped all orders?

  • Just logged onto my account and mine is still unfulfilled. When will it be shipped. Order number is 1312.

  • +1

got my 7040 today, although purchased via ebay but is from UN Tech..

Bit dissapointed, has rust on the SSD caddy + a few rust spots internally on the chassis behind the case fan. The front grill is sticky & the metal framework in front of the fan is also sticky & black, sorta corroded. It's almost like it came out of a Fish n Chip shop. The dust is all sticky.

    Am i being pedantic?

    FYI - I went with 16GB option, came with 4x 4GB sticks + a WiFi USB dongle.

    • If the product had been Q.A, I though they need to clean those dusks at least?

I would be disappointed too !!

      • Yeah, it wasn't dusty per se, just sticky residue where the dust had been & the rusty spots just compacted my disappointment, who knows where it was stored or used & likely the M/B would also be affected, shortening it's life-span..

All good though, seller got back to me today & they're sending a replacement & a return label..

  • @untech Any updates on order shipments? Mine was Order 1323 and haven't received any emails since ordering.

  • So, I got mine, went to put in a spare samsung 860 ssd, and … there's no sata data or power cables? What?

    • I actually didn't check to see if the DVD was functioning. huh.

I suppose I should've checked this, but looking at the prices for the special dell sata power supply cable I guess it's good money to remove them and sell them?

    • https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/304519447333 is the full drive kit👍

      • Thanks for that, $25 isn't too bad. Surprised that they shipped a completely decorative DVD drive in the first place.

        • Yeah I would be going back to the seller in this case - the unit was sold to you with DVD function !

          • @Nom: Eh, it said "DVD", not "functioning DVD" and at the price I can't be arsed.

        • wait? your dvd drive doesnt work or just isnt powered up/connected?

i only powered mine up briefly and pretty sure the DVD drive had power

          • @SBOB: There was no power or sata cable at all.

            • @motk: Just boot up my 7050 and the DVD is working - tested with a disc and read fine.

The included usb wifi is broken, lol.
