Just a heads up that the woolies ampol stations don't accept ampol digital gift cards.

    • +1

Thanks for the heads up, saves a bit of grieve if I bought one.

      • +1

Yeah it was a painful lesson.

The only one pure ampol station nearby closed down. Then there were 2 ampol woolies stations close by, but neither could accept the digital gift card even after a full rebranding of their stores.

Pure ampol stations are few and far between.

    • +1

It's a complete clusterf***, but you can find ampols that will:
      1. Accept digital gift cards
      2. Earn woolies points
      3. Accept woolies fuel discounts

There's various permutations available in Adelaide, not quite sure what the underpins the distinction, but don't rule them all out. Check out the station finder on ampol's website.

      • Use the Ampol Store Finder. Those listed as "Woolworths Caltex" (former name of Woolworths Petrol) or "EG Fuelco Ampol" are the EG-owned and operated stations which 'doesn't' accept the Ampol digital cards as EG currently uses the old Woolworths POS systems.

Those listed as Ampol Foodary or Ampol Woolworths MetroGo (in NSW or Vic) should accept Ampol Digital Gift Cards as the Ampol POS are setup for it. As for the third party or franchisees, it's a mixed bag but most should be using the same systems as the company-owned Ampol locations (The company owned Ampol sites should have "Ampol Retail Pty Ltd" on the black sticker next to the door which lists owner's details - which is either company owned or franchised/third party).

Woolworth/Caltex is different to Ampol, as it is different again to plain Caltex and different again to EG. Too many different owners and branding and franchise arrangements. Straight Ampol station should accept (I'm yet to find one that doesn't). Stores yet to be converted or branded back to Caltex, won't accept them as they are owned by another company. We just had another 2 stores converted from Woolworth/Caltex to Ampol and both accept now after conversion. The 3rd outlet went from Woolworth/Caltex to Caltex as it was a Franchise store. After Woolworths mess is cleaned up (Woolworths will own none in the end), it will be a lot easier.

Best bet is check on the Ampol site or just ask in-store. This is a great deal with paired with the 5c off / L, but it's certainly worth checking.

Edit: There is many outlets being converted and this takes time. Ampol wants to uphold its rep, hence they won't slap their name on what are mostly outdated Woolworths/Caltex stores. If you want someone to blame, then blame Woolworth and Caltex for this nightmare they created. I must say once converted, the new Ampol stores are good value (for a fuel station) and focus heavily on decent products instore.

Thanks for that. Was just about to buy - but the only one near me is a Caltex/Woolworths one with Ampol signage.

You can redeem physical AmpolCash gift cards at EG locations. (Actually, you can redeem physical AmpolCash gift cards at all locations listed on the Ampol website, including EG locations. However, if you want to redeem them at an unattended Ampol location, you must have a PIN set on the physical AmpolCash gift card first.) Physical AmpolCash gift cards are rarely on sale, although it seemingly happens once or twice a year. However, if you get a targeted cashback offer on your debit/credit card (e.g. $5 cashback on $50 spend at Ampol), a purchase of an AmpolCash gift card at a participating Ampol location (i.e. an Ampol location operated by Ampol Retail Pty Ltd) will trigger that offer.

You can only redeem digital AmpolCash gift cards at 52% of locations in the Ampol network (i.e. 966 out of 1866 locations).

Use PetrolSpy and tjat should help gauging which are plain Ampol and which are Woolies Ampol.

    • Use Ampol's website. PetrolSpy is out of date (still lists my 2 local stores as Caltex). NSW Fuel watch is just as bad.

      • Pretty accurate in Adelaide, but yeah, the Ampol app is pretty good, just doesnt tell you the price.

    • I wouldn’t always trust PetrolSpy to be correct.

I know of one Ampol location that is erroneously listed as an EG Ampol on PetrolSpy.

      • +2

I trust Wookie. I have seen his work!! I would say to get to know the Woolies/Ampol servos in your area.

        • Also in keep mind that EG Ampol / Caltex Woolworths and Ampol Woolworths MetroGo are completely different businesses.
The later (MetroGo) is owned and operated by Ampol under a separate licensing agreement with Woolworths and they sell Woolworths branded products in the shop.

Petrolspy also still lists many of MetroGo sites as Ampol Woolworths, Ampol Woolworths Metro or Ampol Foodary, which is outdated.

IIRC the rebranding to Ampol Woolworths MetroGo is complete and there are no "Ampol Woolworths Metro" left on the finder.

Remember to stack with the free NRMA Blue membership (deal many got) or paid equivalent/s (AKA Normal NRMA / RACQ) memberships for an extra 3 to 5 cents off/L

    • I’ve yet to try stacking the 5 cents off on top of woolies 4c voucher. Will do next time

      • +2

No can-not! Cannot use Woolies 4 cents off that these stations! Can only get EDR points.

      • +2

I tried to stack a 4c/L Hyundai fuel voucher with a 6c/L Woolworths fuel voucher at an Ampol Foodary location recently, and the attendant noticed what I was trying to do and told me that I could only use one discount and asked me to choose one. I’m not sure why they didn’t just scan my Everyday Rewards card, because that had the bigger discount…

NRMA is the only roadside assistance program from an automotive club that offers a fuel discount at participating Ampol locations across Australia (and therefore can possibly be used in conjunction with this offer).

      • RACQ and RAC (WA) offer a 4c/L discount at participating Puma Energy and (new) Caltex locations across Australia.

      • RACV does not have a fuel discount offer, although their website advertises a 3% discount offer via discounted WISH or Fuel eGift Cards (which is standard across other automotive club roadside assistance programs).

      • RACT offer a 6c/L discount at participating Astron and United Petroleum locations in Tasmania.

      • RAA offer a 4c/L discount at EG locations across SA and in Broken Hill, although it currently cannot be stacked with the 4c/L Woolworths fuel voucher.

      • AANT offer a 6c/L discount at participating United Petroleum locations in the NT.

Download the myToyota app for an extra 4 to 8 cents discount if you have a Toyota car.

    • Not knocking your comment, but just adding, that, 'most' of the time myTOYOTA is 4cpl. No matter the fuel. NRMA 5 cpl is standard for 98 users 3cpl for other fuel.

      • 95 is Premium fuel also…

( for 5c off via NRMA)

This deal, or root my old S4 and start studying for a chopper licence?

    • I have no idea what that means, but it sounds funny :o)

  • What's the expiry?

  • There’s a note in the description for iOS users, but just wondering what’s the best/quickest way to use these gift cards on an Android phone? (I’m still a newbie to these cashback apps and haven’t used them in-store yet.)

I thought it would either come up full size in the ShopBack app itself when I click ‘See Voucher’ (just a smallish preview seems visible, unless that’s all Ampol needs to scan the QR code?), or could be added to my Google Wallet. Instead it appears to suggest I download a third-party app (WalletPasses).

    • I print off a hard copy of the GC.
To do this on the app. I tap on 'Purchases', then tap on 'See Voucher', then on the screen headed 'Wallet powere….' tap on the forward arrow at the top right, then 'copy link' and email myself a copy of the link. That emailed link will take you to a copy of the GC.

      • Thanks, though hopefully there's a way to use it on a mobile directly — wouldn't want a printer just for this!

I'll probably see if they can just scan the preview image, though I know these things can be finicky even with the larger QR code in the NRMA app.

        • +1

IME yes the Ampol attendant had no issues scanning an image of the barcode. This is what I did (as a backup to Walletpasses, which I also had installed). I saved the screenshot to my MS To Do app.

Note that Walletpasses did not update the balance immediately (took a few hours from memory).

        • Or on your Adroid you can get the QR code onto your 'Passes' app.

  • $100 sold out, will it be available soon?

    • +1

      I wouldn't risk it & I'd buy $50's then.
