What's The Cheapest Place to Fly to That's Classified as Overseas?

My friend would like to renew her holiday VISA and stay a bit longer in Australia but to do so she has to travel overseas for 4 days. What's the cheapest way to do this?
New Zealand? Fiji? She's currently in Brisbane and it seems a return flight (in December) to NZ is going to sting her for about $800 and that's not including accommodation for 3 nights while shes over there.

Flying in December is the problem here.

A cheap scoot flight to Singapore?

You'll (she'll) need to scratch around places including NZ, Fiji, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines. One of these will likely be the cheapest option depending on a whole range of factors.

But, yes, December is about the worst time to fly to any of those sorts of places on the cheap.

Your friend should plan for the (likely) possibility that immigration is aware of this 'hack'. I feel like I saw it on Border Security maybe five years back?

I don't remember specifics because the individual didn't have a suitcase packed full of meat (as 99% of Border Security episodes end up being).

Of course they are aware of the 'hack' - its literally the rules.

His "friend" should make sure she has sufficient validiity on her passport to ensure re-entry though.

  • Denpasar Bali

    • Take a boogie board?

  • Going to be very date dependant, whether it overlaps school holidays or not puts Vanuatu in or out of the equation.

Port Moresby might be a good choice? Personally I'd just go to flights.google.com, throw in brisbane as the exit site and look at the map.

Well you clearly know what is 'overseas' places, so do a search for whats cheap from your location.

  • Call up airlines and ask to be put on standby

This is not a thing. If a last minute seat appears the day of the flight, it will be a fully flex booking class and the most expensive option.

  • New Caledonia? Short flight from Brisbane. But yes Bali probably cheapest…

    • I would suggest NC as well, flights are $550/return from Brisbane and it’s only a ~1.5hr flight. Maybe not as cheap as a Bali flight, but also the least likely to sell out. You can usually fly to Noumea at quite short notice. Make sure it’s the Aircalin flight booked direct and not the Qantas codeshare, as Qantas charge 2x the price.

    Tasmania

If theyre on a 600 (Tourist) visa, they cannot simply fly out and back in and reset the visa. See conditions 8503, 8558 on Immigration website.

  • NC and Bali I hadn’t thought of, nice work boys

  • Thanks everyone for your comments, I just found out this dumb dumb isn’t vaccinated so it’ll probably have to be NZ…
