Vitasoy Greek Style Soy Yoghurt 140g Half Price $1.35 (Save $1.35) @ Woolworths

590

I noticed recently that Vitasoy had some new plant yoghurt products out so I thought I'd give them a try. They taste incredible even by dairy yoghurt standards, and the flavoured varieties have a 4.5 star rating. It's my new mid-morning snack. Anyway looks like they are 1/2 price this week, so I thought I'd share as it's the first time I've seen them at that price.

Strawberry, Vanilla, Mango & Passionfruit and Plain varieties (although Plain comes up as out of stock for me).

Thanks for sharing @XabiFernando. Very keen to try these!

I wasn't aware they made yoghurt, are they (any flavour) any good compared to other brands?

    • +1

I love Cocobella coconut yogurt tubs, this is nothing like it and takes some getting used to (also does not taste like greek yogurt to me) but the fruity flavours are yum. Definitely recommend trying the mini versions while they're on special

      • +1

Definitely much prefer the Cocobella yogurts to these ones as they taste much nicer in my opinion.

Thank you! Have an allergy and this is the only non-dairy yoghurt option with decent calcium and B12.

  • +2

These are actually nice, been waiting ages for a milk alternative yoghurt that actually has protein (these are like 9 something grams of protein) compared to all the other ones out in the market atm

    Wow… soy yoghurt.
So much plant base dairy products.
Hm… is it calle dairy or another word?

I'm wondering is this same live culture with standard yoghurt or same as fermented soy bean products like Doenjang and Miso?

    • +1

this is in the ingredients list:

Live, vegan cultures: Yogurt cultures: S. Thermophilus,& L. Bulgaricus. Probiotic cultures: B. Lactis.

  • My local Woollies aka a Metro store sells it for $2.2 this week

  • Are these better than chobani oats?

    • +2

Yeah they are. I don't know anybody who likes the Chobani oat texture. The texture of this is good and the soy taste is fairly faint.

      • I'm the opposite i hate the soy flavour in a sweet yoghurt too much

      • I love both chobani and vitasoy I dont mind the texture of the Chobani oat

I am not a fan of Soy based products but intrigued how this one works. The 2 reasons i use yoghurt is for the probiotics and 2ndly for the long lasting protein content (Casein proten). How does soy based yoghurt compare in these areas (I know its not as good protein quality) . Did they modify it to have probiotics or does Soy have its own default probiotics?

    • +2

This product has 1.5-2x more protein than dairy equivalent Greek Yogurt products. Absortion of Soy is also on closely par with Casein if you are after a slower absorbing protein.
I would assume like most other products the live cultures starters are added in to this product, to create probiotics. Soy beans naturally can be fermented to create probiotic cultures, but I wouldn't imagine supermarket products would go this route. Easier to add in live culture starters.

I much prefer these over other dairy free alternatives (coconut yoghurt has a strong flavour and high saturated fat content, oat/almond/cashew aren't great texture wise)

These are great nutritionally, the fruity flavours are delicious for a snack. The greek one is good on cereal if you don't like a lot of sugar in the morning. But it's not a perfect flavour substitute for dairy greek yoghurt. I add a bit of lemon and pinch of salt if dolloping on savoury things and it works but it still has a kind of soy-beany flavour. Doesn't bother me but those with fussy palates should probably stick to the sweet ones.

You have to like soy - personally hated all the flavours i tried (mango, strawberry and vanilla). The soy after-taste was too strong

    • +1

That's a shame you didn't like any flavours :'(. Personally I loved them all especially strawberry ! Idm soy though so that probably helps :)

      • If you like / don't mind soy - it's great. But anyone saying you can't taste it's soy is a liar… and as someone who can't stand soy milk, it's terrible for me

  • Even the plain one has sugar as one of the main ingredients but still 5 "health" stars.

  • what does greek style mean? I assume it is only for dairy
