  • anyone got any suggestions for a electric toothbrush holder?

    • +15

      I usually use my hands

      • What if OP doesn't have a hand?

        • Good point. They're really gonna struggle to use a two-pack of these.

          • @hotphil: I was going to make a joke about this, but I don't think people can't handle it well

            • @ntt: I think you underestimate OzB-ers - most would just brush it off

  • How are these vs Philips Sonicare 2 Series Electric Toothbrush 2pk HX6232/74 for $139.99?

    • +2

From memory, the replacement heads for Sonicare are way more expensive. Might have changed since I had one. Was never convinced by the "sonic" bit tbh

    Good review here:

I bought one yesterday from Amazon, works very well although $10 more at Amazon but received same day as ordered.

  • Purchased this a couple months ago. Work well, though I don’t bother with the Bluetooth and 4/5 brushing modes. Battery and motor is good, the cheaper ones tend to have their motor slow down when the battery is low.
Good value I think for 2 brushes. Only comes with 1 charger but my old one works.

    • The older Oral B ones had Ni-Cd batteries that might explain the slow down. The newer ones are Ni-Mh. Haven't checked what these are.

      • I think almost all are Li-ion now. Even the Pro 1500 which was on sale for $30 is Li-ion.

        • The Pro 700 I bought last week to replace an old Ni-Cd one is Ni-Mh, but yeah maybe some of the higher-end ones are Li-ion.

          • @hotphil: Ni-MH work just as well, and just as long, if not more- if you keep them topped up.

Li-Ion is better if you charge once a week or so.

          • @hotphil: Yeah I think the 1500 is the lowest model with li-ion.

I wish Oral-B made a dual charger, we either have to plug in two separate chargers or share a charger between us as a couple. Suck when you only have two plugs in the bathroom.

    • Do you ever really need to both charge at the same time?

    • +6

The charge lasts for 2 weeks? We share a charger with 3 people and it’s never been an issue. Having 3 chargers set up would be an unnecessary mess.

      • It's more of an aesthetic thing for us, we have one charger now which we both use on and off, but we find the toothbrush not on the charger leaves marks/water on the counter whereas the charger with a toothbrush on it is concaved to catch that water/marks which means its easier to clean and visually better.

    • I'm with you. I use the charger as a stand, our toothbrushes are always on there, ready to go. Which means two bathroom power outlets always occupied.

      • Batteries suffer degradation when their average charge level is maximised. Also inductive chargers use power (only a small amount) all the time, so best to just only charge them when they get low.

We turn ours on to charge once a week- and our batteries last for years before I have to change them out.

          • We've been using ours for > 6 years or so, no issues to date
          • the charging lights turn off when the toothbrushes are fully charged, and (I believe) don't turn on again until we've used them, which tells me that even if there is constant consumption, it's low

I did initially turn off at the mains when fully charged because I was concerned about the points you raise, but soon decided to just leave them on all the time. No regrets.

          • @andresampras: Indeed. No idea if the Li-Ion versions will last as long with a top-up regime- are yours Li-Ion? Back then a lot of 5000s were NiMH. I have both, its hard to tell them apart but the oldest (NiMH) sure lasted well on a constant top-up regime

            • @resisting the urge: They weren't expensive so I assume they weren't Li-ion.

But yeah you've got a point, li-ion may not be quite so forgiving of my charging setup long term

        • +1

Oral-B toothbrushes don't continuously charge judging by the charging indicator and power draw from my testing). If fully charged, the charging indicator does not light up and power draw from the charger decreases significantly).

          • +1

@soundboy5010: Indeed. Inductive chargers create a field and maintain it whilst plugged in. Oral-B chargers are rated at 0.9W at 240v, so maybe ~1/10 of that when not charging.

  • Is this available in store as well?

  • -1

So stupid it doesn't come with a double charger

  • Is this a family dual pack intended to be used by two people?

    • You can have multiple use it.

The toothbrush head goes on top of the handle, so you could have 5 people using it - each with their own toothbrush head.

  • +1

Dual Handle? Does this mean there are two toothbrushes in there?

    • +1

Yeah it's an odd way of saying "2-pack"

    • +1

yeah as per image. Stupidly confusing naming, I agree.

    • Yes, it's for dual wielding.
I find using two at once much faster

  • Does it come with 2 x travel case as well?

  • Jesus! I'm tending to think my oral B electric ozbargain a couple of years ago for about $30 was the steal of the century! Still going strong, though I have upbristled a few times. (nothing to do with sodomising brian taylor!!)

  • Ignore Bluetooth, app is pathetic and completely useless.
    Go for cheaper model.
