Bauhn 70" 4K Ultra HD Smart TV $799 @ ALDI

230

Smart TV powered by Tizen. Tizen is a Linux-based, open-sourced web OS that is open to everyone, and supports a range of devices including TVs, mobile devices, home appliances and even signage.

As of now, over 190 million people in 197 countries around the world are enjoying Tizen OS through their Samsung Smart TVs – though given the TV’s communal role in the family space, the number of actual users is expected to be much more. Tizen is a platform that truly encompasses Samsung’s user-driven values of “Screens Everywhere” and “Screens for All”, and the company is set to further expand the Tizen experience through collaboration across various fields including those of video, art and gaming.

    Powered by Tizen

    Is that better than electricity?

    • +1

      Yes, but only by 1.38%.

    • +1

      well, duh!

  • +1

Have seen 75 inches from Aldi for the same price.

This one has a 60 Day Satisfaction Guarantee though.

      • +1

So we might not be satisfied with the product starting from day 61? ;-)

        • +1

          possibly not

      • +1

The 75inch WebOS models also have a 60 day guarantee… unless I've missed something?

        Isn't that on Kayo ?

  • +3

    Junk brand.

  • Is it the first Bauhn that is powered by Tyzen? Or it has been the case so far?

  • +3

I feel like BigW's equivalent of these TVs are better value.

    • They go to roughly the same price when on special (every few months)
    • Both with a 1 year warranty (more if you bust out ACCC)
    • Android with the BigW brand vs Tizen on Aldi
    • 90 day change of mind with BigW vs 60 at Aldi (have to keep packaging though for Big W)

I purchased the new EKO QLED TV and would never purchase one again. It had to be returned to Big W multiple times (the replacement). Twice for the first software update that it asks you to do bricking the TV meaning it would never power on again which I later found out on Facebook was a common issue. Finally after that update was fixed the WiFi connection dropped out after about 30-40 minutes.
Noting that I have no issues with any other devices and it was in the same room as my router.

      • Was your EKO TV Android 9 or the newer model with Android 11 and Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision ?

        • The newer model with Android 11.

      • The thing is though, with these budget brands you always hear both ends of the spectrum: People having really bad or really good experiences.

Not sure which brand is riskier, Bauhn vs EKO, to me they are both about the same quality.

For example the EKO tv I bought 1.5 years ago has been running fine.

  • Tizen Tv is horrific. Will never buy another Samsung because of it

      care to explain more?

      TechRadar review disagrees.
"LG's webOS and Samsung's Tizen are often considered to be the best smart platforms – they're fast and fully stocked with the latest apps"

You mean the paid infomercial shills really are telling the truth?

        • Don't Judge - try a review of your choice.
(Of course it was the first to pop up in a search.)

cbettiol doesn't give any information on why they hold that personal opinion.
As OS are upgraded over time, user experience & expectations will vary.

Pretty happy with my Tizen OS Samsung TV.

      • Yeah, there's no way that they're better than Android TV.

    • +1

It really depends on what you want out of your TV. I have both systems (Tizen and Android) and they both attend to my smart tv needs really well, apart from not having Prime available for Android TVs or not having the VPN app I use on the Tizen.

      • Same with all OS - strengths & weaknesses that suit some users & not others.

In the early days of the Macintosh, as a student I was the only trainer & consultant in Macs employed at my Uni.

DOS techs would laugh at me & my 'toy' as "no one needs a Graphical User Interface!!". The Command Line is so much more efficient! DOS forever!

But my creative clients certainly enjoyed the advantages that the Mac brought them.
The PC (especially with GUI) was better for data processing required by the admin & researchers.

It's a matter of choosing what OS & it's features suits your needs. OS change over time.
My work as a Uni IT consultant was to find the system that best suited the client, not to push one OS over another.

        • You mean.. you specialised in an Apple IIe or something thereabouts??

I specialised in 'Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego" on the IIe

          • @dsp26: No, paid by Uni to support staff on Mac Plus, SE, & up - late 80's.

1 week after first seeing a Mac & word processing my first document, was given the job to train staff & consult on computers for research. Was setting up a new section of the Uni - which had a Mac.

Then lectured there in writing using computers. Interviewed Mac devotee & British author Douglas Adams about using the Mac in his writing.

Not bad for an undergrad student with no degree & little experience. Had so much fun & my own large Uni office (full of computer equipment).

Wasn't into computer games. Was more interested in real life challenges & developing people. Used real game play to help people become more creative, playing like children. That became a fun career.

      • apart from not having Prime available for Android TVs

Prime has been on android tv for a long time now.

  • I had a Bauhn 59" from last year. It lasted 4 months before dying one afternoon. We were just using it as normal. Watched a movie in the morning and went out to the shops. Tried watching it in the afternoon and it was getting very strange glitches every few seconds. Aldi service wasn't a good experience. We were Had to spend about a month getting a refund.

From what I understand Bauhn is a rebadged LG tv with a garbage operating system. Would recommend getting a chomecast or equivalent if you end up going with it.

Bauhn is a rebadged LG tv

      No, not even that good!

Bauhn is just one of Aldi's many trademarks, applied to a range of electronic appliances from different manufacturers.

Sourced from whatever factory is producing generic product with most features for cheapest price. Then rebadged by one of the suppliers to Aldi.

So quality varies. Past experience does not indicate how this model performs.

Service / support is provided by the supplier to Aldi - which may vary with each Bauhn model

(Was contacted by one of those suppliers to be a consultant to improve quality of their electronics. I declined the offer, but learnt a lot about the process.)

Aldi is saying Tizen is worth 5" - $799 for 75" TV with WebOS
    https://bauhn.com.au/75-4k-ultra-hd-webos-smart-tv-august/

    • The one from your link can't be purchased, can it? There's only "Enquire now" button.

  • Wait. Aldi will have to clear them out for $399 or $499 after two months as no one is going to buy a Tizen TV

  • I gather the OS is shit on these but does anyone know how the panel is if I was to use it just as a HTPC screen?

  • Seems this is a promotion of a TV OS, rather than telling us about the TV.

SAMSUNG have the same spiel for their Tizen TVs

  • Last Aldi tv i returned had a really bad panel, like blacks were garbage, edge bleeding all over, worse in a dark room.

  • A tempting purchase as my older Smart TV apps are mostly now defunct.
One thing to realise though. Earlier Bauhn smart TV's had WebOS - meaning a connection to LG. However, this latest release has Tizen surely meaning a connection now with Samsung technology. Most likely these TV's come from a different factory, surely?

Would that not mean that past experiences cannot be relevant to the new Bauhn smart TV's?

Existing opinions are clearly at the extreme ends of the satisfaction index.

    • A tempting purchase as my older Smart TV apps are mostly now defunct.

Just get a firestick. I went with the 4k max one and its much faster than the inbuilt android tv.

Would that not mean that past experiences cannot be relevant to the new Bauhn smart TV's

It's just like their bikes. While they may brand them the same each year the supplier changes all the time. The fact they had a good bike done by polygon in the past doesn't mean that a later one isn't some kmart level junk.

You cant read anything into future Bauhn TVs based on older ones. Each model might as well be a separate unknown brand (it may well be effectivly the case).

  • Whats about if you simply want this to run a PS4 and that handles all my smart features. It will actually just be a 2nd lviving room tv at the moment is a old panasonic 55" plazma

  • can you add apps with tizen?

  • Literally any TV from JB Hi-Fi would be better.
