[Windows, macOS] Postbox 7 Email Software Lifetime License US$49 (RRP US$79) @ Postbox

41

I've been having problems with my Mac's Mail not displaying content of emails for quite a while, so looking around for an alternative. Not tried this, but it has some good reviews (and a 30 day trial). Works on Mac & Windows. 1 licence covers you on any number of computers, any number of mail accounts.

  • Quite a while ago read somewhere that changing system setting > color profile works for some people, perhaps could try out?

    • Do you know where that is? In Mail or somewhere in the System Preferences?

      • System preferences

Used to use thunderbird and that’s free

Geez youth of today. What's Wrong with Elm or "Pine* ??

    • Geez youth of today…. using Elm and Pine… i don't even know what they are lmao

I’m not sure how this is a bargain in the sense of it being great value. That’s a lot of money for something which is normally free.

    • Plenty of popular desktop mail clients are paid including Spark (as of last week), Newton, MailMate, AirMail, Canary, outlook, etc.

Then there’s free ones that look to use your mail for marketing such as Edison.

Good chance if you want a desktop client that you’ll come across paid apps in the search. In fact I think I know of more paid options than free ones.

  • I think this is actually based on thunderbird?

  • Try Spark. I’m using its free tier and it works perfectly.

The one thing I didn't like about the free version of that is you can't remove the 'sent from Spark' tag.

      • they released an update and said that was a bug, if you had a previous spark account you can turn "sent from Spark" off and it's working now

        • Now it's the price you pay for the freebie. Being able to remove it is listed as a feature in their versions comparison chart.

Spark just introduced last week a subscription at I think $60USD a year if you want full features. If you don’t pay you get “sent from Spark” in your signature among other things.

I suspect the timing of the Postbox sale is a direct result of Spark going to subscription.

    • Ah, that's a shame!

      Just checked their blog post.

Existing customers retain the features they had before for free.

This is probably and hopefully why I haven't noticed any difference. My mac app is still version 2.11.23 which was last updated 2 weeks ago, before last week announcement.
Sorry guys for the false alert.

      • I found that even though I’d used it previously, I couldn’t remove their signature tag from my emails which is enough to put me off using Spark.

Edit: someone above said that being forced on old customers is a bug. I haven’t retested it yet so maybe that’s not in fact being forced.

        • Have you enabled option in settings and added your own signature? Also are you talking about Mac version (which I use, and I have different signatures configured for my 2 accounts)?

Maybe same bug that @unfnshd mentioned above?

          • @olderman: I tested both Mac and iOS within 24 hours of the new version going out, and both attempted an upsell. I haven’t tried since so if it was a bug maybe it’s been addressed.

          • @olderman: Quick update but I have access to the beta iOS builds via Test Flight. Just checked the latest beta notes and there is this

Today we’re bringing you a hotfix update. It turns out there was a bug that forces our existing users into a paywall while disabling the Sent with Spark tagline.
Please, update your Spark to the latest version, the tagline should be switched off after the update and won’t be displayed in the composer (unless you’ve changed these settings before).

Don’t think this builds public yet, but presumably it will be soon. Can’t verify myself as when I installed the Mac release I inadvertently put myself on the 7 day trial, so the premium versions currently enabled and I’ll have to wait another day or two for that to expire to see what I get under the free legacy tier.

    • I tried Spark on iPhone and was rubbish, emails weren’t coming through sporadically, dropped an account every now and then, settings would save

      • I only use desktop version which doesn't have any of these issues for me.

And I use Gmail and Outlook on iPhone, and I'm actually thinking about ditching Gmail app even for Google accounts, as Outlook is pretty awesome.

        • I’m trialing Bluemail, pretty good so far

  • I suspect the 40% off sale is a bit like the NordVPN with 68% off + 3 months FREE a permanent sale.

Most review sites have it listed at $49 or even a few say $39/$40

    • I reckon. It's a pretty competitive segment. I'm just looking at eM Client which looks pretty good (even the free version - at first glance). Oh sod, only 2 email accounts, otherwise A$80, or A$185 lifetime!

  • Bluemail and thunderbird are free, what more do you need?

  • This is US$39 currently
