    New Customer I assume

    • +56

I would say so. You rarely get rewarded for loyalty.

        • +51

          That doesn't sound like loyalty..

        • +5

Didn't work for me. They didn't care (they were helpful providing information on how to churn away from them).

        • +3

Leaving is the opposite of loyalty. You were rewarded for the opposite of loyalty.

          • -1

@mick01: Well, i have the option to return to them with the $10 discount within a 24 month period as a "loyalty discount", so id say it part qualifies..

      • -2

So you want a permanent discount? O_o

      • Agreed, as a potential new customer, I see this offer as a "we'd like you to be our customer, but only for 12 months".

  • Is it off all plans or otherwise what is a high speed plan?

Not that I'm particularly interested in halving my speed to save $5 a month.. But at least after 6 months I'd be eligible for a superloop promo

    • 100/20 and greater.

      • +6

Rofl. Almost fell off my chair with laughter. What were they thinking? "Let's offer the same discount as our one month free but make them stay twice as long to get it"

        • Totally makes sense, 1 month free stops tight arses like me setting up an account for 1 month and then leaving.

          • @SimAus007: Yeah but what i mean is this offer sucks. I'm not coming to abb for this.

And I'm not a churner so I'm the person they want.

            • @justtoreply: What plan you currently on?

            • +2

@justtoreply: Yep, although ABB is not a budget provider, that's not the arena they play in.
They have to pay local wages for all staff, including their call centre staff, unlike just about every other telco.
For those of us (like me) that aren't prepared to pay the ABB price point, it's best to look elsewhere.

    Good find OP!

Hey, give them credit for almost matching Superloop's standard rate with this discount.

    • +1

To be fair, they get unlimited data as opposed to 3TB on Superloop. Not that I'm complaining. I just like having gigabit (though I do notice it says 500/50) for $120.

      • +1

        Superloop has a limit now?

        • +1

          Only on its 500/50 plan.

          All others are unlimited

          • @TheMoistMan: Is the limit total data or download only? It's doesn't clearly clearly separate download/upload so I assume it's bundled.

            • +1

@CrawlB4uBall: Sorry unsure of that, I'm not actually with Aussie BB as a service. I have superloop.

Imagine it includes both, whatever benefits the customer the least :p

Please don't assume I am correct though!

  • +12

Aussie is still among the most expensive even after this discount. PS: Been with Superloop and now Flip. No issues whatsoever.

    • +1

yeah i moved to tpg. abb are great but most expensive and no discounts/deals.

    • Does the timing matter for when you leave, or do they just charge you pro-rata?

      • +1

Timing doesn't matter with Aussie BB as they do pro-rata refunds.

    • +2

Yeah, they are great though. Ended up going with Origin who resell ABB, and give a discount for bundling power/internet/etc services, $59/mo for 50/20 and the exact same ABB portal except it's in orange lol.

      • Who do you call when you have or if you have an issue? As abb are exceptional

        • ABB customer service manage the calls also for Origin NBN.

      • And can't turn off cgnat

        • I prefer CGNAT for the extra anonymity it (may at times) provide.

And you still get IPv6 if you do need a public route, just make sure you have IPv6 at the other end. :P

    • Same

I was with TPG, superloop, leaptel and now spintel. My 6 month discount is up, going to churn somewhere else.

      • Which provider was best for you in terms of stability/connection?

        • +1

          Spintel 1000000%

I only had 1 drop out! Superloop was the worst! I would get drop outs like every 4th day at 11pm to 1am and sometimes throughout the arvo. Tech support blamed my hardware. Then why Spintel, I never changed my hardware, never changed my habit and I only got 1 dropout from memory!

  • +14

Was paying the ABB premium for 2 years before I decided to start churning, you get nothing for loyalty.

I even asked them about similar discounts for existing and they suggested I churn.

    • Yeah I switched to MY Republic, which is much better value.
However, ping/latency on ABB was 3ms versus 20ms on My Republic. Might be sometime to consider before switching to a cheaper carrier if you are a gamer, for example.

      • I was going to skip MyRepublic anyway after looking in to how they provision.

      • +1

So it wasn't better value, it was cheaper. And since the ping was 6 times worse, that's probably why it was cheaper.

      • MY Republic
Never again, if you really want to online streaming.

      • I switched to My Republic recently from ABB. My ping has gone from sub 10ms to 20+ms and for less money than I was paying for ABB's 100 plan, I'm getting My Republic's gigabit plan however it often maxes out at around 500Mbps.

I queried My Republic about only getting half the speed of the plan and they told me they can't do anything and that their website states you only get like 250Mbps evening speed on their gigabit plan.

Still, it's 5x faster than ABB for less money but with double ping.

  • What good unlimited data plans are there these days/best way to compare plans?

Been on Aussie broadbands 50/20 $79 plan for about a year now and am considering shopping around.

  • Can we use belong modem? Or a better suggestion?

  • What is a good modem and easy set up to jump from one company to another?

    • +1

What type of NBN technology are you on?

      • FTTN, currently on Belong, looking to jump to another provider (100mb) but not sure which one, most providers you need to purchase modem

        • +1

I change NBN providers at least every 6 months (for discount offers) and I haven't change modem/routers in years.
As long as you know how to change or remove the password on your own router, without tech support from the new provider, you'll be fine.
There is no reason why you can't use the existing router you have on FttN.
Providers say that they cannot provide tech support for every modem/router, because they only train their staff on the devices they sell (so many options now), so you need to know how to do this yourself (most are very easy now).
Most routers have a quick setup guide on their respective websites you can refer to, or YouTube may have a video walkthrough.

  • +9

Too expensive even with discount. I switch from tangerine, superloop and spintel every six month. Now with More nbn, as a CBA customer, 200/25 plan is only 83 per month. Just did a speed test, it is 265 mbps download and 26 mbps upload. Nothing to complain.

    • CBA here too I ended up getting in the offer where they give you 3 years free @ More on the L plan I believe.

  • +2

I've just switched from Aussie bb to superloop with $100 gift card
Not happy with Aussie bb technical support after moving to a new place

  • +3

Existing FTTP customer. Unplanned outages or degraded speeds at least 1-2 times a week for the past 4-5 months. Same with workmates in other suburbs. CEO sent out a letter last month or so to customers addressing this, but outages still continue. Many of them no longer even show up on the abb app till it's already resolved. Add to the fact that they don't seem to really give a toss about loyalty or customer retention with these deals. Will be moving to super loop at the end of this billing cycle.

    • +1

My experience has been the opposite. Guess it depends on the POI and tech mix. I had more outages with superloop than I’ve had with ABB (just one in the past couple months) I’ll still switch once the promo is up tho

  • +1

I recently switched from ABB to Leaptel as they're offering better deals. Leaptel has a 12 month promo going for some plans, I'm getting 500/50 for $109. I was paying ABB $129 for 250/25 so $20 off per month for double the speeds.

  • +3

    I’ll stick with my $99 a month for 1000/50 with TPG…

    • Link to plan pls

    • What where is that plan prove it

    • That's an excellent price.
      How has the service been?
They don't offer gigabit in my area.

    • Yeah, it's cheaper, but I'd argue there's a reason.

We had a truck go down the road and rip down overhead HFC cables. I called ABB, got through immediately, sorted within 5 minutes, with an NBN appointment for the next day to come and re-do the cable. Dad is with TPG (same street), took him till the next day to even get through to them, and they got him an NBN visit 5 days after that.

      So, YMMV.

      • +1

Been with TPG for 10+ years… think I've only had to call tech support once… they sorted it pretty quickly.

        • over 20 years for me. Saved a ton of money.

  • +1

Even with the discount is damn expensive

  • I'm paying $134/m for gigabit with Origin (ABB) but that deal appears to have ended.

Currently $139/m when you bundle with an energy plan.

    • -2

I couldn't find google evidence that Origin uses ABB. How do you know they do?

    • I'm paying $120 with Superloop.

      • +1

        Nice!
I'm too reluctant to leave ABB.

        • Why?

          • @Munki: Don't fix what's not broken I guess.

            • +2

@Maths Debater: As a wise crab once sang: "The seaweed is always greener in somebody else's lake".

      • which nbn service you on and hows the latency with superloop, as looking to churn away from ABB next month.
        thanks

        • The only online game I play is LoL and I get 10ms consistently.

  • +4

Superloop has $10 - 20/month discount for 6 months at the moment eg. 50/20 plan for $54.95/month

  • Good company. But prices are terrible and don't represent a deal. 25 off a Month however, seems more market competitive…

  • I'd only recommend ABB if you need good technical support or expect to have NBN provisioning issues, such as a Service Class that is not ready for service activation.

Otherwise I'd suggest Superloop, although their technical support hours have reduced in recent months.

  • Well Aussie broadband doesn't value a customer, time to leave, testra airs free…

See you in 6 months Aussie broadband.

    • ""testra airs free""

I am sure air went away recently .. replaced by tel$tra free wifi… if you can find one..

      • Ehh it's still the same thing just under a new name lol.

  • +1

Aussie Broadband trying to beat Telstra with those expensive prices.

$99 a month for 100/20… Why is the upload speed so garbage? It's even worse at 1000/50. I feel sorry for anyone that is a part time Youtuber that uploads constantly with those upload speeds.

Even the discount doesn't help much… can't believe suckers fall for these discounts thinking they are actually saving cash.

    • +1

Youtuber that uploads constantly with those upload speeds.

NBN charge a lot for upload

  • +1

Lol too expensive. Telstra same and it’s even better…

  • wouldn’t it be better to take the jbhifi $1200 giftcard and use 5g modern than this?
