Knog Oi Classic Luxe Bicycle Bell (Small or Large) $26.99 + $9.99 Delivery @ CCache

110

My first deal, just got a gravel bike and needed a bell for all the zombies on the paths.

Very open to discussion on Crane vs Spur vs this. At this price it's a no brainer, get something for $10 to get free shipping. Other colours available.

CCache is a great wee shop, no affiliation.

Crane has the nicest tone, spur (imo) is the loudest, the Knog has the sleekest appearance.

  • It is nice and sleek and looks like jewelry… In my experience the bells are not really working the way they should… Also, useless on a road.

Ideally what want to have is a small sleek (electronic) device that would have two sounds: a loud bell and a loud siren sounding like a car horn… Yet to find one.

Yep I would love a truck horn level toot. Think there are bottles that can be charged to hold air for an air horn if you feel the need to scare the absolute crap out of path walkers

        You can also just shout.

        • Yep, that's what I do currently. Works better than most bells. But the problem is, again, that it does not automatically and quickly register in other peeople's brain as another unit in traffic. Confuses people.

@Musiclover: Also seems to result in higher levels of bitching/abuse from the 4-abreast zombies.

Not sure if that's better or worse than the bitching from people saying you should ring your bell, which you did about 5 times prior to passing but they were too self absorbed to notice…

Shout or bell, same result: zombie turns around slowly while moving directly into your path then freezes, until you change direction and they shuffle sideways so they're once again in your path.

          • @GrueHunter: those lone zombies are amazingly talented at taking up the entire path. i bought the airzound bongom linked to below but sadly, all the meth heads who love deliberately jumping out at you are strangely nowhere to be found when i want to test the thing…

            • @tdw: Airzound was very useful during lockdown when the bike paths were overcrowded with Karens on their mobile phones oblivious to their surroundings.

      • Loud siren is more for vehicles on the road (peds just slow you down, it's vehicles that can cause a big problem)… There are some battery operated ones on aliexpress. I tried them. Two problems - very bulky and the sound that they make does not sound like a bicycle or vehicle, more like an intruder alarm or a doorbell. Because the sound is so weird it does not work, although it might be loud enough.

The air horns are just way too bulky.

ive played with some of these and theyre not as loud or nor is it a recognizable sound for others on the shared pathways.

Since you linked a couple of the classics (non luxe), figured I'd post [Dyson Bikes] (https://www.dysonbikes.com.au/knog-oi-classic-small) for anyone after a classic. $24.90 with free shipping, no extra spend needed.

I picked up a classic black from them, but had to go through Knog to get a blue LE.

The classic has a… classic bell sound with maybe a slightly less annoying after tone. It's not overly loud but it's a very nice fit on a modern bike.

I backed the Knog Oi on Kickstarter, bought 3. They look good, low profile, liked the look of them on my road bikes….BUT, I've now swapped them out of genuine Spur bells on both my roadie and MTB. I found the Knog Oi was just not loud enough, particularly on shared paths and trails.
