NRMA - I'd only use one of the others if they were included for free in another product.

    • NRMA - they charge around $12 a month and don't take a one short payment? My other car has a one off payment of $130 or 40 per yr . I have heard they continue to charge even if you stop the direct debit. Anyone experienced that here?

Amex platinum charge includes it as part of its $1,450 annual fee for cars up to a certain age. If you know the perks and use them you can get more than the annual fee a year out of it.

    • Thanks mate. Amex . Not much of use to me
      Plus the fees.

When was the last time you needed assistance?

Tbh, never used it mate.its like insurance I guess. Risk mitigation

Yes, but car insurance is hundreds in cost to save paying thousands, even hundreds of thousands. Same with house insurance.

Roadside…..meh. Given the distances you travel, it'll be cheaper to not have it and self insure in the rare case you need a tow. But even then, there are cheaper options.

        • Great. Thanks bud

    I can't see how 5km a day is viable…

    Consider using Uber.

  • If you're within walking distance (certainly are at 5 k's) then don't bother. If you get stuck call a mechanic nearby to assist and save the subscription costs.

    • a mechanic isn't going to answer your call at 2am

      • … who do you think is manning the callout vehicles?? NRMA doesn't have dedicated depots and drivers, they're all subcontracted out to local businesses.

        • its actually a mix of NRMA employees and contractors….

    • Naaa, the time and the hassle is way too much. Also the callout isn't cheap.

nrma is the only option mate, dont waste your time with allianz roadside and the other "independent" ones

    • Thanks wiardo

Very low mileage indeed. Sell your car & walk/use public transport/uber to save yourself some $

    • Haha..low mileage indeed. Thanks for the thoughts.

  • My VW came with VW Roadside…it was just NRMA.

I'd guess Tesla's Roadside Assistance would be an Extension Cord… lol

The help they can offer is generally limited. You're much better off buying a reliable car and keeping it will maintained. Then on the off chance you need help you can just pay the extra fee for on the spot help.

    • The on the spot fee isn't cheap.

      • Odds are by the time you need to use it you'll have saved far more in annual premiums. Think of it like insurance. The maximum it will pay out is not that high and wouldn't be a devastating loss like a house burning down.

  • If its a reasonably new car, roadside assist is not needed.

    • You don't get a flat depending on the age of the car right :).

You don't need a mechanic to change a tyre.

  • Keep your car serviced in good condition and take care of your battery, and you won’t need it. I stopped paying for roadside assistance 13 years ago. Saved me at least $1300 in total so far, and haven’t needed it once.

    • Thanks bud. it is only for the unexpected like a flat.

  • thank you all for stopping by to respond.Lots of suggestions around saving cost and considering alternatives which was not what I was after.
Many thanks to the few answering my enquiry.
I think I will just go ahead with NRMA .closing this thread now.

Thank you all again for your contributions
