Moving out - Looking for nbn Advice

Hey OzB brains trust!

I’m moving out of my parents place next week and theres so much to do! One of the things that will need to be done is setting up an NBN connection. I have done abit of research but am have so much to do and was hoping to hear some advice from the helpful people of OzBargain.

The new place is a one bedroom apartment in a red double brick block. We will have 2 phones, 2 laptops, a tv, a soundbar and some other smart devices. The building is registered for FTTC and has an old telephone port on the wall.

From my research NBN 50 should be sufficient as we are not looking for super fast internet and don’t have much cash to splash. It is also my understanding the provider will give us one of those NBN black box and we will need to get a wifi router - this is the one I am planning to get this weekend - https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/asus-rt-ax58u-dual-band-a…

So with that being said can anyone recommend a provider with good bang for buck? I had a look through the forums and seems like Aussiebroadband or Exetel are good options but have introductory periods and then the monthly payment goes up.

Open to any suggestions and recommendations as I am totally new to all this.

Thanks for your help !

  • Superloop have intro offer for 6 months if you don't want to pay ABB prices.

You don't need a $229 router for 50 Mbit in a one-bedder. $100-150 units should be more than sufficient.

If you're a CBA customer, you can get 30% off for 12 months using More Telecom.

    • Looking like More might be the way to go. Do you use them yourself? User reviews look mixed on some of the postings here

      • I've been using them for close to 6 months now.

Speeds have been better than Superloop and customer service has been pretty good.

Tangerine are good. If you on a budget consider getting a Jiffy SIM and hot spotting. 3 month half price promotion through Finder. Definitely a good choice if you're on a budget 👍

  • The nbn black box you refer to is the nbn NTD and it's only used for HFC. nbn use a white NCD for FTTC.

Most ISPs have intro pricing. Leaptel, Superloop and More Telecom have nbn deals on now.

    not too happy with aussiebb.

  • Changed from Belong 30Mbps plan to Flip 25Mbps plan due to the recent price rise. What a mistake that was. It's slow and pictures on web pages are taking ages to load, reminds me of Adsl days,

  • Exetel / Superloop / TPG / iiNet all have similar speed/ping (I've used all those at the same properties in the past few years), IMO as long as they actually paid for access of the nearest POI from you, the speed has little difference, so I'd just pick the cheapest big company.

right now Exetel have referral program and cashback, I think you can stack them.
