Can you use points to buy gift cards?

    • -2

Bonus Points come later from this. But if you have existing reward points then yes.

  • -2

    10% is better?
unless we can use coles master/Vanilla to buy this to double dipping?

    • you should be able to use those cards as they're eftpos cards

      • +1

I could not use Coles Vanilla gift card to purchase groceries at Wooly

        • Check your card balance

          • +2

@amaneight: Its a brand new card, I used at QV Wooly and I got a message that it was not accepted there. I think it may be individual supermarket may have difference policy and settings.

            • +2

@jowu15: I also tried at Woolies and it was not working. I asked for assistance and turns out that you don't need to enter the pin for the Vanilla cards and transaction will go straight through.

        • +2

I used $1250 of Coles Vanilla Visa (10% off) to buy TCN Giftcards at 10% off at Woolies just a week ago. I had to do it over two days as Woolies had a limit of 10 cards per day.

          • @blindferret: is the perfect gift card save from the hacker? i heard coles visa/mastercard often get hacked

        • Ditto but then I tried another Vanilla card and it worked.

  • Can you use these to then buy the ultimate him gift card from Woolies which is on 20x points?

    • +2

The Him gift card that is earning 20x points today is the TCN Him gift card, not the Ultimate Him gift card. Please don’t purchase the wrong gift card!

To answer your question, you should be able to use the Perfect EFTPOS gift card pictured in the Woolworths catalogue to pay for a TCN Him gift card.

Woolworths (and BIG W) have blocked some prepaid gift cards from being used to purchase some of the gift cards sold in their stores. If you trigger this block, you will get a Items Not Allowed error on the EFTPOS terminal screen as soon as you swipe the prepaid gift card on the EFTPOS terminal.

Last time I checked (which was a few weeks ago), Woolworths and BIG W have not implemented automatic blocks for the Perfect EFTPOS gift card pictured in the catalogue for any purchases of gift cards.

If your local Woolworths for some reason is still selling the older Perfect EFTPOS gift card, you may not be able to use that to purchase a TCN gift card at Woolworths (or BIG W). EFTPOS gift cards with a card number starting with 502125 (which includes the older Perfect EFTPOS gift card) is one such prepaid gift card where Woolworths and BIG W implement an automatic block for some purchases of gift cards

Hi Wookiemonster, do you know if I could use these cards to pay for ATO? Thanks.

        • +3

You cannot use the gift card in this deal to send payments on the ATO website, as the gift card in this deal only operates on the EFTPOS network (which cannot support online transactions).

          • +1

@WookieMonster: i guess this puts it as not as good as the vanilla card deal, lower discount and less places to use it.

          • @WookieMonster: I guess can pay at Australia Post, right?

            • +1

              @hohohaha: No idea.

I have tried three times to get the ATO to send me a payment slip with a barcode, but every time I ask the ATO, they end up sending me a payment slip via myGov with no barcode. I have wasted four hours on the phone speaking to three different ATO people, and I don’t want to have to go through the hoops again to speak to someone else and probably end up with the same result.

              • +1

@WookieMonster: Thanks for sharing your experience.

                @WookieMonster:

I have tried three times to get the ATO to send me a payment slip with a barcode

Some ATO accounts seem to generate the AusPost barcode online, others don't. I haven't tried to decipher the barcode to see if I can generate it myself using StoCard or similar.

For some reason, all the AusPost shops in Sydney CBD still have self-service terminals closed. I tried maybe an ATO and DEFT payment at a suburban AusPost and it didn't work. It directed me to a counter. Other self-service payments still worked.

I'm thinking AusPost blocked self-self service ATO/DEFT payments now.

                • -1

@salmon123: so you can't use the perfect gc for billpay at aupost? I'm thinking to use it for university tutition by billpay payment at aupost. I have $1500 gc ($500×3)

                  • @ivyholmes: As above - I think it depends on the bill (and possibly the store). I couldn't get ATO/DEFT bills to work at the self-service counter. Other bills like Council rates worked.

Try your uni tuition and post the results!

                    • @salmon123: Will do! thank you ;)

                    • +1

@salmon123: I used the Vanilla card for ATO online.

                      • @Yola: Is there a surcharge for the Vanilla visa on the ATO website?

                        • @salmon123: Yes, it was $1 on $250 card double that of the Coles Mastercard GC.

      • Can you use this to buy a visa/mastercard Giftcard at coles whenever it goes on sale?

        • +2

It worked back in June 2022, but I'm not sure if it still works now.

Coles also blocks the BIN of some prepaid gift cards when you purchase gift cards in their stores, but I doubt they would block Perfect EFTPOS gift cards. The only prepaid gift cards currently blocked from purchasing gift cards at Coles are actually prepaid gift cards that are also currently or previously sold at Coles.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: OK, but Coles eGC is still allowed (at most locations).

    • +1

Yes, I just used them to buy Restaurant gift cards 30mins ago

  • +14

    It's effectively 3.5% discount on $500

    • Sorry, can you tell me how you calculated that? My calculations make the 5000 points equivalent to 4.9% value.

      5000 ER points = $25
      25/(500 + 7.95) = 4.9%

    • +3

If you consider the value of the card independently, you pay $507.95 and get $500 + 25 of value. That means the discount is 17.05/525 = 3.25%

If you were going to spend money at Woolworths anyway, you can consider the $25 in points as a discount. That means you pay only $482.95 for $500 of value, which is a discount of 17.05/500 = 3.41%

  • -1

Can you buy eftpos gift card with eftpos gift card?

Then just use the same $500 plus $7.95 over and over again haha?

    • +1

I guess it depends on the machine, and if split payment is allowed for gift card purchses. Remember your $500 needs to purchase a $507.95 card, so you dont have the balance.

      • Was thinking split payment.

    • +2

On the variable cards, can you load $492.05 to the card (plus $7.95 card fee) to make it $500?

    • I saw Coles has $400 Visa Vanilla card, but only in certain store. Not sure if $500 actually exist to make our life a bit easier :)

  • +1

Beware that many have not have points track or be applied. Can be a costly mistake.

    • +1

      Can be a costly mistake.

Does calling up customer service help?

But you are right, chasing Woolies/EDR CS is a waste of time for such a measly discount.

      • +6

During the last Perfect EFTPOS gift card deal (which was at BIG W), I had to speak to five different Everyday Rewards staff members across multiple days before I was credited the missing bonus points. 🤦‍♂️

  • Variable one already cleared out at my woolies. Damn.

  • I need some discounted GC for ebay.

  • +1

Beware, if you are buying this offer and after you receive the Everyday Reward point make sure you spend it, otherwise all your points will get stolen, mine got stolen $250.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/651164#comment

    • Or convert to Qantas points, then no one can steal it

      • Hi CheapBrah, how long it take the conversion from EDR point to Qantas points, is it spontaneously or you need to wait until 1000/2000 points?

The way they steal the Reward dollar is pretty fast, they steal it within few days once your EDR dollar in your account.

        • It's instant once you have 2000 points

          • +2

@CheapBrah: As the conversion is 2000 EDR points to 1000 Qantas points, I cannot see the value in doing so when essentially it halves the value of redemption. For example redeeming gift cards. A $50 Supercheap GC is 10k, but this would have been foregoing $100 as EDR credit at that rate. Best rate was about 66% redeeming a Wish card, 3000 Qantas pts for $20. Again would have been better off with $30 straight up instead of 6000 EDR to 3000 Qantas pts.

            • @chyawala: Probably selling the points at 0.9c pp

            • @chyawala: Woolworths points are generally worth 0.5c and Qantas points are seen to be worth 1c, so it works out in that sense. The value of Qantas points is more variable though, redeeming gift cards is poor value as you see at 0.66c, hotels are like 0.8c and easy enough to get, flights can be way more though, at least over 1c but can be worth upto 10c in some cases but harder to find availability of flights with good redemption value.

    • Happened to me too, the crook spent them at BWS for $160 worth, contact EDR and got the value reinstated after 2–3 weeks.

      • +3

Hi Datatemp, just be careful, if EDR issue you a new card, the crook will still manage to steal the money from the new issue card.
The crook have tried to access my new card again thus I received email warning from EDR saying there are several attempt to login to my account. EDR platform is compromised, just beware to everyone use EDR to gain points.

        • Yes it’s a big problem with EDR. I lost around $100 worth which I was saving for Christmas. One day, all gone. It took a lot of effort to get them back. So even though this is a good deal, I would tend to use it straight away.

  • +2

Didn't get points automatically after buying 3x$500

    • So the receipt doesn’t how many points u got for this purchase?

    • Same as me.
No points of $500 eftpos card and $300 TCN restaurant card
Made phone call and been told to wait 14 business days

      • +1

Set a note on calendar as points still may not apply in any amount of time. Also keep receipts handy.

    • same thing for the $500 EFTPOS card, the staff had no idea either … baffling

spoke on live chat, they said 14 days wait as well.

      • EDR are generally pretty good with customer service, so I expect we will get it after contacting them again when it inevitably doesnt show up after 14 days

  • thanks OP, is there a link that one should use to be able to purchase please?

    • Would be online only

      • yes an online link is what I am after?

    • no can only be bought in store

      • Yes meant in-store only. Facepalm!

      • Thanks

  • Does give me points on $500 one. Points were given on $100 card…

    • I got points on the last $100 sales as well.

Will be waiting for $500's response for a few days before purchase

    • +1

curious as to why did you buy the $100? Isnt it basically a loss as the fee is 6.95 and the 1000 points equate to $5?

      • i remember it did not include $500 in the last sale..correct me if I am wrong

        • +1

I think you are right, looking at the catalogue they don't mention $500

  • No points given on $500

  • +1

No points and no 4c fuel voucher as well but managed to spilt payment. Now time to use same card to get double dip.

    • I think the Woolworths e-fuel voucher is glitched.

I spent over $30 on groceries in one transaction at Woolworths on the weekend, and I did not receive a fuel voucher on my Everyday Rewards account, nor did I see on the receipt the message saying that I had a fuel voucher credited to my account. I contacted Everyday Rewards and they manually credited me with a fuel voucher on my account.

However, the person who used the checkout before me spent more than $30 on groceries, did not scan an Everyday Rewards card and left the receipt at the checkout. A paper fuel voucher was printed at the bottom of their receipt.

      • +1

I'm surprise that u still need/care about the fuel voucher after buying so many giftcards that often, lol. I have way too many of them now, due to recent giftcards deal

        • I have heaps of Shell Coles Express fuel vouchers from third-party gift card deals at Coles, but I never go there, because they’re just so damn expensive.

It has actually been a couple of months since I bought a gift card from Woolworths, so I have no fuel vouchers from gift card purchases!

I also only actually contacted Everyday Rewards to see whether they knew about the issue. They said they knew about the issue and credited me with a fuel voucher anyway.

I always carry at least one Woolworths paper fuel vouchers with me anyway, because there was one time where 19 fuel vouchers randomly disappeared from my Everyday Rewards account without warning. You could imagine my surprise when I went to EG and was told I had no fuel vouchers on my account, but luckily I had a paper fuel voucher on me.

          • @WookieMonster: how much money you reckon you spend on gc a year? and how much % savings you getting overall to your life?

            • @Frozensage: Honestly, no idea, but if I had to guess, it would be a lot (i.e. over $25k so this year)! Maybe I should start tracking my expenses properly…

        • I have a chopper dedicated for fuel hunt across Australia. Beats shell/ampol any day.

          • +2

@nzthunderboy: That's fantastic if you have a 7-Eleven anywhere near you.

My nearest 7-Eleven is around 800km away from me and requires a trip on a ferry.

            • +1

@WookieMonster: Sorry to hear that. !

              • +2

@nzthunderboy: There are times when the combinations of fuel docket, gift card and other discount will beat ur chopper too (generally when the cycle hit the lowest)

      • Just chat with customer service, she refused to add fuel voucher as gift card does not qualify for fuel voucher according to her.

        • The customer service rep is actually correct.

Clause 46 of the Everyday Rewards terms and conditions includes the following:

^The $30 qualifying amount excludes purchases of gift cards (including iTunes cards), smoking/tobacco products and accessories, lottery products, carpet care, donations, travel cards, event tickets, delivery charges and

However, in reality, before the Woolworths fuel voucher glitched out last week, you would actually earn a Woolworths fuel voucher on the purchase of a third-party gift card. You did not earn a Woolworths fuel voucher on the purchase of a gift card issued by Woolworths Group.

        • If you buy a card without scanning your rewards card you'll get a printed fuel docket with these.

          • @JIMB0: But won’t get points lol

            • @R n b: You can do a missing points claim, but it is really at the discretion of Everyday Rewards whether to grant your missing points claim.

            • @R n b: Don't get points even if you scan your card.

    • How to double dip. Whats the point of split payments, thanks heap

  • +1

They sell at more than double the normal price yet give you a measly 3.5% discount.

    • What double? EFTPOS is pretty close to having cash, they won't make much money out of it, probably even a loss leader

      • Thought it’s normal Woolies gift card.

Not long ago Coles ran similar mastercard gift card at ~7% discount though.

        • +1

I just bought a $500 eftpos card plus 7.95 activation, then tried to buy another one and added 492.05 as a variable balance and it didn't work. It wont allow. Same as for TCN Him card. Didn't work.

          • @deals and offers: I don't know you can load more money in there
I just used it to buy another 5x$100 restaurant gift cards and it went through straight away

            • @klaiwy: Isn't it one transaction per day for bonus points?

              • @CheapBrah: Not sure, I went through the manned checkout for the $500 eftpos cards first, there were no bonus points shown on the receipt like the others above, then I went to another woolworths and bought the restaurant gift cards at self checkout, it showed on the screen I had earn the 5000 bonus points when I paid. I will check whether I have got the points for the first transaction, but I am sure you can pay with the eftpos gift cards

  • I tried to buy 6 cards when check out. But staff said only 3 cards per transaction so she made two transactions for me. But i just realised it shows only one transaction per day! What can I do? Does this means there will no points for my second transaction?

    • Technically/legally you don’t get if they enforced that rule…but normally they don’t. So good luck to you.

      • If you end up needing to call to get the points credited it will be an awkward conversation.

  • do the points come through automatically now?
