Nice charger. Charges fast and charges the batteries individually.

Also - Same charger + 4x Eneloop Pro AAs $55.20 Not sure if this is worth mentioning as a deal. You can buy 4Xwhite enloops with charger and then buy eneloop Pros seperately from amazon for 18bux SS

    • "Pro" is not necessarily better though, it discharges faster and has less charge cycles.

      • +5

If Pros are the same as ikea ladda, then it does not discharge faster as per project farms testing. Also 500 charge cycles are plenty enough. If you charge the batteries once a week, thats 10 years. If you charge once a month, that lifetime of charges. I would have lost the batteries or damaged them before I reach that many cyles. I would rather prefer that extra charge held in the batteries during use.

      • +1

Assuming ladda is same as the pro, the pros are better.

      • +1

Pro's can provide more amps, better in high drain type devices. Thats their benefit. And yes, Laddas AAs are or were Pros. I seem to recall a conversation that was not so clear anymore… but think it miught be the AAA that arent made by the same factory. Dont quote me on it

  • Is it better than ikea charger?

    • +5

IKEA one is a dumb charger.

      • +2

dumb charges are needed when it won't charge in the smart charge (when it thinks the battery is dead)

        • +1

Many smart chargers will still work with completely-flat batteries, but it may take an hour or so for them to detect the batteries.

If you have a smart charger that refuses to work with completely-flat batteries, you can short the completely-flat battery to a freshly-charged battery for 10 seconds, with positive shorted to positive, and negative shorted to negative. Use cutlery and/or keys to short the batteries together if you don't have wires. This will put enough charge into the completely-flat battery that all chargers will detect the battery, and start charging.

Easier to just put it in a dumb charger for a few minutes (than wait 1 hour)
then the smart charger will detect the battery again.

That is the problem with these smart chargers..
why they haven't solve this dead battery issue?

Do you have picture diagram of this?

Yeah that looks like it will require a bit of acrobatic moves with the wires and holding the wires in place there..
than just putting the dead battery in a dumb charger for a few minutes.

It is good to know that you can do this though (for people who don't have a dumb charger)

            • +1

@pinkybrain: Here's a video of "jumpstarting" the battery with wires: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sujrpwjta4k

I usually hold the batteries together, alongside each other, with the positive ends pointing down. Short the positive ends onto a knife or other cutlery that you have placed on your desk or table. Then use the tines of a fork to short the negative ends of the batteries together.

Make absolutely sure the knife and fork don't touch each other while you are doing this!

Ikea don't know what they are selling, they often claim their chargers are smart when they aren't.

Ikea have manuals for all their chargers, check to see how long the charging takes. If it's more than eight hours, it's definitely NOT a smart charger.

Ikea have had a true smart charger in the past, it was named "LADDA", same as the batteries. Everything since then has been rubbish.

  • +3

Wish it comes in AAA instead.

    • Do you mean you wished it came with AAA batteries?

      • Sorry yes that’s what I meant.

  • Is it AU plug?

    • +3

Why not? It's DigiDirect, you can expect Australian plugs and warranty unless otherwise stated.

      • -3

Where does it state it's Australia plug

        • +1

It is the 'K-KJ55MCC4TA' which is the same SKU sold in Australia. It is AU Plug 100%. Also DigiDirect as stated above is AU Plug.
So it doesn't need to state AU plug but 100% is AU plug.

  • These batteries are great, I even got some of the Pro ones that claim to have a bigger capacity. Amazon have this one at $34.32 at the moment.

    • +5

That's the crappy overnight charger. One to avoid.

      • I already have an overnight charger.

What’s the advantage of this one other than faster charging?

        • +7

This one also charges each battery independently, whereas the overnight charger requires batteries to be charged in pairs.

        • +3

          Smart charging.

          • +2

@Techie4066: This ^.. proper termination of charging. Not simple timed charging. Each battery gets only what it needs saving the battery from heat stress of excess charging from simple timers.

        • Overnight chargers damage your batteries, so you won't get close to the rated number of recharge cycles from them. You will probably only get 20 to 50 charge cycles out of the batteries before their capacity drops so low that you'll notice.

With a smart charger, you'll likely get close to the rated number of recharge cycles, unless the batteries are mistreated in some other way (physical damage, overheating, drawing too high a current, reverse charging etc).

Sadly, once your batteries have been put into a "dumb" charger, they're permanently damaged, and their capacity will decline with time. Changing to a smart charger won't stop this, but newer batteries will last much longer, provided they never go near a "dumb" charger.

          • +1

@Russ: Wow, thanks for the info. Time to ditch my dumb charger then😂

            • @Max999: If you have white eneloops, it's easy to see if the batteries have been damaged - it looks like there's a water stain around the positive end of the battery, under the clear plastic coating.

      • Didn’t know there were two versions good info

  • Is that the same as this https://amz.run/5zxr

    • +3

BQ-CC51, right there on the first image.

    • +2

Does the model number match? smh

      • Thanks scooby.

        • +2

          Dooby-dooby doooooo!

  • +1

Recommendations for a standalone charger? I bought some ikea Laddas recently but haven’t picked up a charger yet as I think I read ilea’s isn’t that good.

    • Any liitokala that matches your requirements.

  • What voltage does it use?

  • +1

I wish panasonic sold a charger + AAA pack :/

  • -2

EBL is way cheaper and comes with an infinitely better charger, don't know why Oz bargain loves eneloops so much.

    • +5

Post an EBL deal every other week and it will soon catch on

    • What would you consider as a better alternative? See a few options

        • +1

Sorry, meant more in the way of chargers! Have some ladda's at the moment, but only their $4 usb charger.

          Thank you though!!

          • @snoopydoop: Ahh, I did't read comment properly.

For charger, this BQ-CC55 is a good pick for ~$20 ($36 - battery price) range. I can't recall any better options. Sorry.

If you're willing to pay, Opus BT-C3100 is a highly rated charger, with battery analyzer and testing functionality.

            • @O O: Thanks so much! Might keep an eye out for a discount on the Opus if that's the rolls royce!

    • +2

EBL seems to have a high self discharge rate and its capacity is lower than claimed. My 2800mAh EBL only has 2300mAh or so from memory. I'll stick one in my smart charger/tester and update this post just to refresh my memory.

I would not buy EBL again.

  • +1

Is this a fast charger? I thought fast chargers were bad for batteries, degrades them quicker?

    • It is a fast charger, but not express.
Around one and half hours charge cycle. ( Can charge a single battery too).

      • So a charger that is fast but not express means it won't degrade the batteries?

  • is $19.96 a good price for 4x eneloop AA? i already have a charger

    • +1

Cheaper at TGGC. ( Pickup, as delivery is extra).

      • thanks, not sure how to get a commercial account

        • +1

          One way here
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/704612

Note that I have ISC2 professional membership and TGGC is a legitimate perk of the same.
Once I got the TGGC membership, I did not have to renew or validate it again in the last almost three years.

  • +1

Cheap. Even TGGC has it for $37.

  • Package says up to 2000mah. Any good for my LADDA 2450 batteries?

  • +1

Anyone seen a more advanced charger (where you set the NiMH you want to use on each battery) for a decent price?

    • Liitokala Engineer

    • do you have link for that?
never heard of that before and why is it needed?

  • I'm looking to use this charger about once or twice a week and won't be in the building every day. Would this be safe to leave plugged in and batteries stored in the charger for when I do go to use them?

  • Awesome. My Nitecore just bit the dust last week. Time for a replacement.
