    Do these work with HomeAssistant?

    • +1

Tuya has been getting harder to integrate so I’m not sure…
Most devices can’t be flashed anymore

      • +5

Localtuya working fine with all my devices in HA

        • +2

I had a go at setting it up and I found it to be a PITA. I think though there have been some improvements in more recent versions to make it easier to set up. Also, why are we downvoting people for asking questions?

      • Most devices can't be flashed anymore via OTA

        Fixed that for you

        • Thanks but it’s also true many devices don’t use ESP8266 anymore either

        • The last few Tuya devices I've bought can't be flashed at all, even via serial.

    • You could surely use LocalTuya or worst case scenario the official Tuya integration

Thanks - got some more lights that I didn't really need.

Bought these last night. They're not terribly bright, which is expected for a 5v 1a transformer to power 26 led's.

Use them for decoration only, not actually to illuminate an area

Very good information thank you, was thinking about the light bulb type string or this one and I think I have made the choice :)

      Pornostyle room setup +1

Yep 5v 1A is 5w only. It’s definitely decorative at best.

I was going to see if it could be modified to just run off usb instead

Anyone know any lights that can be chained together ?

    • I’ve reviewed the manual and I’m fairly confident no.

However, if you have multiple power points / outdoor suitable powerboats you could group the strings together in the app and have them in unison i would say.

      • How do I tell if a powerboat is outdoor suitable? I've been wanting to move mine out of the TV room and didn't think of putting it outside.

  • are these esp based and tasmotisable?

  • Is the lead cable 5m long?

    • +1

It sounds like it, 5m lead then 5m from start to finish. Just refund if it’s not suitable.

I reckon these addressable RGB ones are cooler

Same price at $19 and more LEDs

  • +1

    I’ve got these.

    They do work with Tuya.

However after only a few weeks, they are broken. Only the first 2 lights will light up now. In the bin they go.

    • +6

Maybe you have higher disposable income than me and can just say stuff it, but you should claim with Kmart mate, that’s literally of the only reason to buy from them over Ali.

      • +5

Agreed. On top of this it also encourages kmart to keep selling shoddy stuff, no reason to up the quality if no one returns crappy products.

      • You are totally right. The problem is I live regionally and the closest Kmart is quite far away. Better mentally to just bin it right away than let it live in my mind for months until I visit again for the sake of $20.

  • +1

Not a bad price. But you can get these damn cheap on aliexpresss too. With huge lengths

    • +4

It’s true / you can buy anything for cheaper on Ali, but I’d buy from Kmart just for ease of claiming warranty. The price was pretty reasonable at $25, let alone $19.

      • +1

Hey I'm not voting it down. I'm just saying, if you miss this with considering.

We've got 2 sets at home, still going strong. Can't recall the price but it was pretty decent. Be similar to this

    • Any reliables ones there you know of?

      • Here's the text in my email for one. I don't have the app on my phone to link direct

"Your order for "1m 2m 3m 4m 5m DC5V USB LED Strip Light RGB TV Background Lights Tuya Wifi Controller Alexa Voice APP Control 5050 SMD Tape Lamp"

Thanks, these are good for christmas lights, and the cost of christmas lights will just go up from here on in.

  • Hmm would look good over the pool but not sure about having it plugged into the outdoor power point.

    • +1

5m only, would have to go over the more narrow part of a pool? Plus you’d probably want a few runs not just 1…

As long as you keep the adapter part dry in a weatherproof gpo undercover you should be fine?

Also worth noting it’s probably not going to do so good fully exposed to the sun everyday.

      • Ahh I was thinking it was 3 x 5m strings the pic is a little misleading thanks.

I'm thinking if the pool pump is plugged into the same style point and exposed to the elements it should be ok though.

        • +1

Yeah that’s fine I just looked at the power adapter it’s actually got like a little screw style cap which should keep water ou

I’d still say none of it is really made for the uv conditions of Australia though

  • Just unboxed mine. After turning on one of the lights just stays green now… even when switched off in the app.

    • At least you can get a replacement

    • @thatsnasty
I think you may need to configure it via an app. Many of these smart lights default to one colour when powered up initially

  • Thanks got 2!

  • +1

AliExpress has made me such a tight arse when they sell theirs for ~$6-8ish with Bluetooth and remote control.

Thinking of mounting some under the escooter.

  • I got two of these yesterday, but can't get them to pair. I've got about a dozen Tuya devices including LED strips, so I've done this successfully before.
I put them in pairing mode, fast flashing, then use the Tuya Smart app and add (+) a "String Light (WiFi)". It counts down for two minutes, doesn't find anything and later the lights stop flashing.
I'm on 2.4GHz WiFi, same as previous devices, which usually pair within 30 seconds.
Any ideas (other than the usual follow the instructions)?
    Thanks.

    • Was that the ap mode pairing for fast flashing light?

If it’s like the Genio app, I had to put my rgb lamps into the alternate pairing mode to pair. My other mi boxer gear pairs to tuya fine.

      • Fast flashing, not AP mode. I did try the other way as well and did not see a new AP appear on my phone's WiFi scanning.
I'm wondering about returning them, but it's the same for two units, so unsure…

        • Any other phones or tablets in house? Pair it first and then share to your account maybe?

          • +2

@Jimothy Wongingtons: Thanks for the reply! I realised I hadn't really tried the AP mode properly (slow flashing), so I did that (unplug/replug device about 5 times, wait for slow flash) and it worked on both of them. :)

  • Only 4 out of 26 light bulbs work after 9 days of use. Returned for a refund.
