eBike in My Situation? Located in WA

Hi all,
I usually drive 11kms to work but am looking at either an E scooter or Ebike given the fuel prices.
I occasionally cycle but somedays I can't be bothered.
There is a little hill on the way to work (38m elevation according to Garmin)

Some things I would prefer to have.
- removable battery - so I can charge at work!
- waterproof/resistant - just incase it rains during winter.
- kickstand

There are bike lockers at work with showering facilities. There are no powerpoints in said locker so that's why I'm looking for a removable battery.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: many thanks everyone Ebike is the answer, please suggest a bike for me or even ones to stay away from! Cheers\

Edit 2: Thanks to sharkyoz, looks like I might have found the winner with removable battery

Go ebike as the escooter is getting bad light over in the east, and I bet it'll onflow into the west.

I recently bought a Giant Talon E+ 3 and I'm loving it. I don't have a car (use the missus' when required) so I bike to work (3 or 4km) it's been rgeat. Battery is removable so you can charge the battery by itself. 11km is a lot further than my daily commute but my commute is a breeze

  • I bought an e-scooter and honestly used it twice before the novelty value wore off, 5k's each way is fine, anything more and i'd rather walk/catch public transport.
I'm now riding back and forth to work (16k's each way) and it kills two birds with one stone as far as physical exercise and commuting is concerned. Sounds like your end of trip facilities are ok as well.

Get an E-bike, you can still fly up hills (38m isn't huge) and its a lot more comfortable over the distances. If you hack it you'd probably get 40km/h assisted out of it (not that i condone it)

    • Which ebike did U buy?

      • I dont have one
I just use old fashion leg power
But if i did i'd get a giant dual suspension

In my mind, for regular use E-Bike is just way better in pretty much every use case. Option to exercise as part of the commute if you want it, crank the power level for a really easy ride if you don't want the exercise that day (like when you can't be bothered as you mentioned). Feels like a hack!

Comparing that to a scooter where you're just… standing.

  • Not many e-scooters I've ever seen have a removable battery, so on that alone an e-bike seems more suitable. Also less risk of public backlash, scooter riders are very much in the crosshairs right now.

I got a rear hub kit from Dillenger, installed on an old MTB and swapped out the tyres for something better suited for commuting. 16.5km each way, hilly Canberra commute, wouldn't call myself fit. Ebike made it more than doable, and as my fitness improved I just dialled back the pedal assist. (Conversely, if it was a cr4p day with a headwind I had no hesitation cranking it up a bit.)

I'm not particularly handy but had no troubles installing. Plenty of videos on YouTube. Warranty service from Dillenger has been great - bike worked fine but had an issue with the speedo readout - they replaced the whole motor!

    • is the battery removable?

    • hey gruehunter, is the kit waterproof by any chance?

try a Cullen ebike version 4 from Pedl.com.au

  • 11km is not that far. Just get a decent pedal powered bike and give it a go.

  • Where do you live and work? That makes a big difference. Can you use bike paths, or stuck on roads?
Perth is very flat, and a 38m hill is nothing as long as you have the gears to climb it slowly.
What we do suffer from in Perth is headwinds. That can make cycling less fun.

For only 11km, why not try a regular bike? After a couple of weeks, you will be wondering why you ever wanted the eBike for such a short ride.
It may be a case of a 40 minute ride on a regular bike, vs 30 minutes on the eBike. (less as you get better)
So decide if you enjoy riding first. ( I hope so! Sure beats driving in peak traffic. )

I'm not putting down e-Bikes, I even have one in my stable. Just saying it probably won't make a huge difference.

edit: looking at previous comments, were you asking about ebike vs scooter for 11km? I see why you may have edited!!! Way too far for scooter.

    • Predominantly bikepath and have a roadbike already.
Just looking at an ebike as an alternate option to a car/returning from injury(the hill is killer and the incline is on the way to work)

edited because i think some ebikes comes with a removable battery so I can charge at work.

which ebike do u have and is the battery removable?

      • Mine is a kit conversion. I thought they all had removable batteries. No?

If hill is a killer, you just need lower gears.
