Recommendations for nbn Provider for New FTTP Install

Our house build is approaching its end, and we have FTTP for our estate (woo!)

Looking for recommendations for a provider based on your experience of new FTTP or other NBN connections for new properties.

I don’t care about price for the initial month or two, just more about reliability of the ISP staying true to their word, making the process as seem-less as possible with NBN appointments and such, plus having easily contactable support who know what they’re talking about.

My initial thought is Aussie Broadband..?

Happy to churn after that to a good deal, just need as seem-less a signup and setup as possible considering that I WFH full time and need it sorted ASAP.

Note: I’m fully aware that it’s NBN who do the install, just want solid support and a hassle free experience which may be helped by a good ISP.

Aussie BB are the best for new installs. Once active can move around easily.

Being a new build you'll be up for nbn's $200 new development fee. Use the 7 day free trial from Launtel (no coupon code) and get your 1st month for free with Aussie BB. Both ISPs have Oz support.

Thanks for the tip - though it’s $300 AFAIK

      • Typo. Your right it's $300.

          Typo again. "You're" :)

    • NBN New development fee is only needed to be paid if no NBN service is in the area, as most areas have NBN equipment installed they generally wave the new development fee. Generally new dev fee is only for apartment buildings and that type of thing or buildings in the middle of no-where where NBNCo needs to physically run Fibre.
If its just running a few metres of Fibre they won't charge for it.
You can find out on application.
So new connection does not automatically mean new development fee even if its a new house build.

  • On a related note, what happens in a FTTC to FTTP conversion. Do they dig/work anything in the house or is it just some external work and then pulling the fiber through the same pipe? Thanks.

Your FTTC to FTTP changeover can be done in one go or broken up into two appointments. For two appointments it goes something like this.

      1. They run fibre through the existing conduit pipe and put a small PCD box on a wall outside your premises.
      2. They come back in about a week and get the fibre from the PCD to the where you want the nbn NTD box located inside your premises.
      3. They splice the fibre and install the FTTP NTD.
      4. Testing and activation time.
      5. You should be surfing the web within the hour.

If the conduit is blocked there will be delays and someone else will come to unblock it or install new conduit if required.

      • having trouble initiating the fttc to fttp upgrade with my current provider. if I were to place the order with another isp will I get 2 separate connections or is it like a churn?

        • +1

          Two separate connections.

Thanks a lot for the details @Twix

        • To get the FTTC to FTTP conversion you need to order a 250Mbps plan at a minimum.
So if your current provider doesn't offer that then their is your issue. Some don't.

Launtel for speeds and customer service. If you use referral you get $25 credit

  • Tangerine

    • Hey Overclocked91, would you mind please elaborating on why you recommend Tangerine 🍊? I'm super close to grabbing the free FTTP upgrade, and the current $30 off RRP for their 1000/50mbps plan (ultra fast xxl or something) for six months, coming in just under $100/month and saving $180 with no lock in or minimum contract term. If it's decent with OK support I'd be keen to switch.

Excellent company. Great support as well. I have been with them for over 2 years. I have switched to More NBN which is owned by Tangerine to get the Commonwealth deal. $69 a month for NBN 100

        • thank you! Think I will sign up now. I wonder if the 12% Shopback will work…
