Which Woolies? Lots of them in NSW. :(

      Gordon NSW

      • .

    • Don't bother with Gordon. Didn't see any and staff knew nothing about it. However ironically I found one in my local Woolies. Unfortunately the two models mentioned above had sold out, but they had one Kindle WiFi^ left for $99 ($40 off). This is the keyboardless version, but I actually prefer that as it's lighter. Now to get a cheap case and reading light from eBay.

It's a real deal, but there's no way of knowing if a particular store has stock other than calling them (and risk missing it) or fronting up.

^ This apparently is the first member of the K4 series, but no touch screen.

      • Greenpossum appears to have got a dud staffer, but for anybody who's looking around Gordon they had plenty of Kindle Keyboard and Keyboard 3G when I went there on Saturday. I was after a Kindle 4 which they didn't have (he probably look the last one) but the St Ives Woolworths did have plenty of those.

        • I picked up the keyboard wifi version at Gordon at 9pm 18/6/2012. I wanted the 3G version. They said come back during the day and they may have stock.

Town hall in sydney CBD had a stack of both the wifi and wifi + 3G this morning 8am 19/6/2012

So I ended up picking up the keyboard 3G ($109) and lighted cover case ($24).

Townhall also had the 5 way controller version.

  • the link isn't working, it just goes to the main page.

    • there is not exact link for this item

      • how about a receipt? how do we know this is a real deal?

        • This is a real deal, my friend has got both kindle and 3g from townhall wolies, but not sure how many other stores involved in this promotion.

        • I got a Kindle already so didn't buy it, how can I post a receipt for you??

        • +1

you can take a photo of where you saw the price and post that…

that way we can try and price match…

  • Is this the same as the below post?

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/71062

    • that's $97, now is $79

    • +1

      no, they are different posts.

    • Ah thanks bctransit and jv.

  • from Gordon NSW

My friends told me he saw this in TOWNHALL woolworths, and also Kindle touch for $99.

    • No, not the touch, it's the WiFi. Touch is generation 4, current and costs more.

  • South Fremantle WA as well.

  • So Kindle Keyboard is $79 in Town Hall?

  • Perhaps a clearance to make way for Fire, or just bailing out?

    • I think the K4 (Touch) is the main horse now.

Awesome deals if they are state or nation-wide! :)

BTW, for K4 buyers it looks like Meritline have a cheap case option for you if you don't wanna go Amazon: http://www.meritline.com/leather-case-cover-for-amazon-kindl… ;)

    • I got my case on ebay. Very happy with it.

    • From checking reviews it looks like these are the K3 (renamed Kindle Keyboard) pre-touch screen versions or they would cost much more. Great prices though. I wouldn't stump up for a 3G version because I have WiFi locally and I will have a netbook for updating the blog when I travel. From all accounts the builtin web browser access though free is too painful and slow for anything but checking email, and that can wait until the evening when I travel. That's just me though.

      • +1

Having tried all of the models before I bought, IMHO the K3 still represents the best value for money…double the memory & battery life of the base K4. The keyboard is a must when looking for online content or browsing, using the dodgy nav button of the K4 is painful, and I didn't like the 'different' touchscreen design for the KT.

The free 3G is awesome if you're out'n'about, having had poor experience in the past with VF I wasn't optimistic but pleasantly surprised. I would definitely pony up the little extra if you are mobile. I often take mine to sit by the lake or beach & read, and it's so cool to be able to be able to grab a new journal article or ebook on the fly when it's referenced.

IME the browser works just fine with either wifi or 3g…very usable, better than my tethered android phone IMHO. I'm not sure where you heard those stories, but it's the opposite of both my anecdotal experience and research findings?

        • I have a friend with a Kindle and he only uses the browser when he is forced to. I don't expect that I will be impatient to load books so I'm fine with just WiFi. Also I often want to type on the web page instead of just browsing, and even a touch keyboard is too painful, unless Amazon has licensed Swype or something similar.

        • I don't mind it TBH, as voteoften says it's basic but it is quite usable. I use it a fair bit actually, when I'm reading at night & go off on yet another tangent it saves firing up the SGT & burning my retinas! ;)

Yeah, it all comes down to personal needs; many people can easily live without the 3G…I just find that for me it's a worthy addition for a small premium! :)

  • Sweet ! So tempting but it won't be used consider I have an ipad

The 3G is worth the extra cost, IMO. They have an experimentasl section on there and you can pull up your gmail or whatever. It is very basic and gets caught up at times, but has really helped me out when travelling both within Oz and overseas.

The worldwide 3G is free. So is good overseas if you don;t have a SIM card and don;t have easy access to wifi.

It is VERY basic though. If you are reading an email in gmail, it will not open a link from that webpage. One page at a time.

    • Be aware that 3G units sold in Australia only roam onto the Vodafone network here because they contain a UK Vodafone SIM.
      Source: http://whrl.pl/Rc5xhg

The AT&T one sold in the US can roam onto various networks here but comes with ads and is USD $139 (and probably won't ship directly to Aus).

  • Also, the Kindle 4G (non-touch wireless) is $99.

  • Some 3G ones left and cases $17 at Greensborough (vic). Wifi only at eltham. No cases with light though.

  • +1

Just to save u peeps some time, none left in Macquarie centre as well as the woolies in Marsfield.

  • Anyone got the Touch for 99?

  • The best e-Ink e-book reader IMHO is the Sony Reader PRS-T1. Of e-readers having the best screen type, the e-ink pearl, it has the best/most features, and being android based it can be used with multiple e-book shops, rather than being tied to just one as the Kindles are. It is available on Amazon (to US ONLY) under $113 delivered, but is $178 here. See http://www.cnet.com.au/sony-reader-wifi-touch-prs-t1-3393266… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_e-book_readers

    • Yeah I would have liked to have that, Sony had touch screens before Amazon. I drooled over it at the Sony demo booth, but I'm not pleased that Sony won't drop the price here. Anyway the way technology goes, prices will drop so it won't be unusual for people to have more than one reader, just like they have multiple computing devices.

  • Just got a kindle keyboard 3g from Chermside, QLD. Now to find a lighted case.

  • Got last one from Southern River WA Woolies

  • Thanks OP. Just got a Kindle keyboard wifi and leather case for $96.

  • Newcastle has about 4 keyboard + 3G left and 2 of the kindle 4

    • which Newcastle store are you referring to?

      • +1

Probably the new Market Town one, that's the usual culprit! ;)

  • Damn I paid the $149 on the last deal a few weeks ago. Anyone seen this deal in SA ?

    • Me too. That does not stopped me from buying another one as a present for my father-in-law. Even for the $149 it is a steal - it has a keyboard (much better for the more conservative readers) and 3G access all around the world (great if you travel a lot and spending too short time anywhere not to bother with any other access than just check your e-mails. I have heard that the new Kindle with 3G has it limited to Amazon & Wikipedia only…

      • Your right of course.

Yeah exactly the reason I bought one.

  • Just got back from the States and demo'd the Nook with "Glolight" (led's at the top of the bezel shine on the screen for night time reading)… it is awesome and this will certainly be the direction Amazon is heading.

The keyboard model does not "flash" as much as the 4th gen model, which is lighter.

I have always had the wifi model and would never use 3g personally.

Both are fantastic buys for the money.

    • 3G is good for anyone on the road. If you happen to be somewhere away from home (be it in Australia or overseas) it still allows you to buy books. And more importantly - the 3G with keyboard (unlike the latest Kindle) will allow you to access (albeit not much comfortably) basic Internet through the in-built browser. For checking your hotmail/gmail e-mails on the road almost anywhere in the world for free - priceless!

Hmmm I see you joined 1 hour ago. Care to explain why it's better at a cost of $10 plus shipping compared to a $6 one from ebay?

    • +1

And checking all your other posts, they are about dinodirect. Are you a rep? If so you should come clean.

    • +1

      Busted~!! LOL.

  • Saw the image, was upset that it wasn't a banana deal :(

  • I got a 3G+wifi with case from Ryde NSW. Thanks for posting.

I am hoping to use its free browsing when I go overseas next week. It's crippled but still better than nothing. However neither NAB nor citibank internet banking sites work on it.

    • Which store did you get it from?

  • +2

    Available in Town Hall Woolworths.

Bought the $99 Kindle 5-Way Controller. They're getting new stock for the Kindle keyboards on Monday (18/6).

  • I have a spare case with light for the Kindle Keyboard if anyone is interested. Paid $24 for it so you can have it for $24 if you pick it up (Sydney CBD). If not will return it to woolies as it is unopened. PM me.

  • None at Bondi Junction

  • Town Hall Sydney had stocks of all models today, but had run out of cases. The staff member said they were getting more in from other stores. This tallies with my local Woolies who had run out of stock and advised they didn't think they would be getting more at the special price.

  • Hey guys,

Got a Kindle keyboard 3G for $109 and a case with light for $24 at Burwood plaza NSW. All models still available it seems, the staff member took out all models for me to look at.

  • I just bought one of these at Woolworths for my grandmother, but the box doesn't have a charger in it. The Getting Started instructions say 'Charge your Kindle by plugging your Kindle power adapter into an electrical outlet' but it simply isn't in there. Did anybody else buy one and get a charger with it? It has a micro-USB cable for computer charging, but my grandmother doesn't own a computer, so that's no use to her.

I might have to take it back tomorrow and see if they have another one with the charger included.

    • There is no charger included. You charge by connecting it to a computer's USB port. If there is no computer, you can buy a USB power plug off eBay for not much. Any phone charger that has a USB socket is fine too, it's standard 5V.

  • Does anyone know if this deal is still available in Vic? if so, which stores? thanks!
