  • Would you be able to buy a guest pass if they aren't travelling with you? If so, you could probably share the account.

  • How do you get the Bank of Melbourne 2 free passes?

    • +1

Apply for their amplify platinum credit card.

      • Does amplify platinum credit card give 2 free passes?
I only see Amplify Rewards Signature giving 2 free passes i.e $279 annual card fee ($139 for first year)

  • This has gone through the roof. I had an unlimited pass through Accor for about AU$300 a few years ago

    • Everything has spiked up.
But it’s a good deal for newbies.

      • +1

I don’t think it is vs some other comments below, HSBC CC. Also a few ways to buy Dragonpass without a membership or free membership

  • Does it provide priority to TSA? or just lounge access?

    • +2

You’ll need a security theatre pass for that.

    • Just lounge access

  • From BOA website, and it looks like all accompanying guest will be charged, so it's not family friendly:

The first two visits within each twelve month membership period are complimentary to the Primary Cardholder only, after which every visit would be charged as per the prevailing rates; currently US$32 per person. Any accompanying guests will be charged US$32 per visit, which will be automatically charged to the Cardholder’s Amplify Signature Credit Card.

I thought kids aren’t generally allowed in most of the lounges?

  • +3

So you pay a fee to be able to pay a fee to enter? Guess I am lucky with my free loungekey membership with unlimited entries.

    • +1

Which bank/card do you have if you don't mind me asking.

      • +1

Crypto.com card. You have to stake $5000 to get it, not an issue if you want to invest in it anyway.

        • +3

I don't recommend this. You need to invest 5k in CRO, which is very volatile. If you had invested at any time in the past 2 years you would be at a loss.

          • -4

@da1andonly: That is not factually correct. The price is higher now than almost all of 2020 and a good chunk of 2021 so you can't have the blanket statement that you would have lost money.

As with all investments, there are risks

            • @Nand0sx: https://www.google.com/search?q=btc+vs+aud&oq=btc+vs+aud&aqs

Any time you've gambled (gambling isn't investing) in the past 1 year and 9 months, you would have lost.

So do you get it after the initial $5k punt? Or do you need to keep your balance above $5k?

              • @M00Cow: You have linked Bitcoin, that is not the coin you stake.

You stake your initial $5,000 and then have the card until it expires, you can withdraw it after 6 months and still receive loungekey for the full 4+ year expiry on the card.

                • @Nand0sx: Oh ok my apologies. 6mth that's not so bad then. What's the coin you punt on/stake in?

                  BTW, I didn't neg you.

                  • +1

@M00Cow: The coin is CRO, crypto.com's in-house coin. It is at a pretty good buying point at the moment because of the entire market downturn (including the stock market) but obviously has risks. The card also has other benefits which were great when I first got it, now they aren't great other than loungekey. You do get free Spotify and Netflix for 6 months and cashback on purchases

                • @Nand0sx: From the website..
You need to stake CRO tokens for a period of 180 days to apply for a Crypto.com Visa Card.

Correct me if I'm wrong… But you can't get the card for 6 months after depositing money? Mm long time for them to hold 5k with no benefits :/

                  • +1

@CereaL: You get it when you start your stake with CRO, you can then unstake it at the 6 months. You get the digital card instantly and they send the physical one which can have delays because it is metal.

When you unstake at the 6 month period you lose some benefits but retain the card and lounge membership.

                    • +1

                      @Nand0sx: Ahh appreciate the update…
The wording on their website makes it sound like you gotta wait so I was unsure.

Is it easy to withdraw? Or you gotta jump through loops to do it?

                      • +3

@CereaL: Not really, once the 6 months are up it's just a button to unstake and then you get your CRO back. From there you can transfer it or sell it to AUD and withdraw within 1-3 days

Don't pay a single cent for PP membership or don't buy the 10 entry pass, you will be very disappointed.
If you look at their Facebook members group, endless complaints about airport lounges refusing PP card holder entry.
As a a frequent international traveler, those complaints match my experience as well.

    Worth a read:

Depends where you are. Since December, I have been from Sydney to Singapore (a few times), Bangkok, Phuket, Frankfurt, Rome, New York JFK, Phnom Penh with lounge access by a variety of business class, gold FF, Amex Platinum and Priority Pass.
The worst lounge experience I had was Singapore Airlines business class lounge in Singapore, which was standing room only back around Xmas. But that situation eased up a bit on my later visits as they reopened more lounge space since then. Apart from that, haven't had an issue with lounge access at the airports I have been to, and that includes a bit of lounge hopping with Amex/PP in Singapore, Bangkok and JFK.

      • Plus Singapore normally keep all the economy flyers on various gold cards in a separate non KrisFlyer lounge, which was closed the last few years , so they put them all on the business lounge which couldn’t handle it

  • +1

Not a huge fan. This might be a one off experience but I've been hearing more of the same recently but I was in Vancouver airport a few weeks ago. Went to the Priority Pass affiliated lounge which had lots of Priority Pass advertising boards / banners outside which basically makes it seem very Priority Pass friendly. Tried to enter and they said Priority Pass could not enter the lounge before 10pm (lounge closes at 11:30pm) since they have to prioritise business class passengers.

So I would be wary of the ability to use Priority Pass and actually get value out of it if lounges are able to just say no at will.

    • Second that. Getting a free PP pas air very common in certain countries, and lounges have started declining entry to PP members and rather prioritising business class travellers.

      • With airlines closing lounges en masse over the last 2 years, they have been outsourcing a lot to PP for the business class guests which is non negotiable entry. So it will only get worse

  • which lounge can you get into at Singapore Changi with this pass?

    • +2

      It's on PP's website

  • If you don't travel much, it's cheaper to buy per visit pass via loungebuddy or similar.

Got the free for life Citibank signature (now called Citibank Premier) back in 2014 via OZB https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/175099
still getting the complimentary membership + 2 free Priority Passes per year

But given said that, I reckon the Diners Club was a great deal for frequent flyers
$150 primary card fee + $50 per additional card
all card holders including additional one can have unlimited access to Diners club lounges network
Unfortunately Diners Club in Australia has stopped accepting new application
probably due to being taken over by NAB

    • Did yours actually work? I thought mine was active, until tried using it in Dubai recently. When Citi moved to MasterCard, it appears they dropped this benefit. Ironically, the Citi app still advertises the sign up, but when I've tried using two cards, it may activate, but then expire within two days. My PP no longer works with Citi…

      • +1

When Citi moved to MasterCard, my old PP got expired too and they didn't send me a new one
I called Citi 2 months ago and they gave me a link with a invitation code to "join" PP again

The link is https://www.prioritypass.com/premieraumc but didn't saved the code
Just ask Citi in live chat (after login) and should be able to get the access in few minutes

        • +1

          Me too.

I got issued with a new priority pass account.

I did it over the phone when my PP card was not accepted.

Also, I was recently declined in Singapore; told to come back in 2 hours time.

Also, with NAB ‘takeover’ of Citi in Australia I wonder how long the 2 free passes and the ‘no annual fee for life’ will last.

          • @Eeples: Dumb question but I got the PP offer with my new Citi Premier Qantas card today. If I cancel the card in say six months time, does that mean I lose access to the Priority Pass passes as well, cos it's tied to the credit card?

    • +1

If it helps, I believe Diners Club still accepts "Business" applications (ie need an ABN/ACN, which isn't hard to get). My wife applied and got this card and an add-on card for me a few months back.

  • +4

The cheapest credit card with complimentary lounge passes is the HSBC platinum credit card
$129/ year (first year $29) you get 2 passes to loungekey
loungekey is a mastercard lounge network and pretty much the same network as priority pass

    https://www.hsbc.com.au/credit-cards/products/platinum/balan…

$79 first year membership fee with $32 cost per visit is not that attractive IMO
compare to $29 first year with 2 passes from HSBC platinum CC

  • +1

remember the cost is 32 USD, which with the way the AUD is falling is getting quite expensive - around $50 if you have to pay a FOREX fee on your credit card.

For a couple $100 would let you stay at a nicer venue at the airport for a while.

  • +1

I'd never pay for PP. The few times that I've actually been able to use it the lounges have been really substandard. Would rather put the money towards actual food.

  • +1

Surely the Diners Club solution beats all this? PP is great, but it has tiered memberships, and most have limited entries, and often additional entry costs.

Diners Club is (from memory) ~$90 a year (plus about $50 for an accompanying card) and that gets you unlimited entries to all PP lounges, for both card holders, with zero extra costs and zero limits.

Best secret deal I've ever found :)

    • +1

      It’s $95 annual fee
      $50 for Qantas reward fee
      $50 per additional card holder

When I applied didn’t know you can opt out from the Qantas reward, but $195 per 2 people unlimited access to lounge is still a steal

      • Cheers for the numbers - yep, it's ridiculously well valued - we once lounge hopped between three seperate lounges in Joberg during a 6hr layover, and sampled crazy boutique lounges in places like namibia and rwanda.

It would probably we worth someone reaching out to good ol Diners Club, and asking for a referral program

      • Is that joining via the ABN business method or something you had previously?

  • I’ve got LoungeKey unlimited access with a plus 1, probably used it 15 or so times this year, I love it. I’m VA and QR Platinum and the airline lounges are usually way better, but when you’re at a small airport or just want to go to a restaurant rather than a lounge, LoungeKey/PP is great.

    • considering the only lounges in melbourne are marhaba and the house (extra $20 for LK or PP), I'm not sure if there's much to love about it. It's really good for cafe use though, I think it's $36 per person.

      • I’m not sure the house is charging PP the extra $20.
