Laundry Dryer Balls - Do They Work?

I have Esatto 7kg Heat Pump Dryer EHPD7.

Was looking at Ms Fix-It Dryer Balls - Assorted $6.50. They claim to help fluff towels and mainly speeds up drying time.

Wondering if dryer balls work really works to speed up drying time?

Thanks for sharing your feedback.

Don't have your linked ones but I have some wool ones from Amazon and they do work.

Noticeably shorter drying time but I'm not sure how much shorter. In terms of wrinkles I do not see much difference with or without. Hope it helps.

    • Thanks.

    • Noticeably shorter or measurably shorter? It could be that your perception is that it’s shorter just because you think t should be.

    • TLDR summary of the above link = choice says they don’t work

  • They do work like HN discounts, your purse will get slimmer!

    CHOICE Verdict on dryer balls

Don't bother buying these products to save you money by speeding up your drying times and using less energy. Quite simply, they don't work.

    • Stayed at an airbnb in a luxury apartment: Irate landlady offered the use of her washing machine. She was virtually impossible to meet, she sent her teenage girls to force me to sign a list of items that can be broken or have to be paid if gone missing. Her laundry was so packed with junk that opening the door to the front loader meant shifting many items to no space available. But after 3 days was my lucky day and I managed to pin her into showing me how to wash. She had no detergent at all but some magic ball in her machine. 3 sweat soaked shirts, 4 undies and 4 pair of socks went in. To my disbelief the stuff came out smell free and her dryer seemed to take forever so I removed my stuff after an hour and placed it an open closet to air dry. Still unsure on how my clothes appeared washed and as good as detergent washed!

      • Ever been to a 3rd world country? People wash clothing in rivers, often no soap or detergent, soak and scrub, fabric on fabric or fabric on smooth rock. Rinse and dry. Clothes come out fairly clean, but wear out quickly. That's what that washing machine magic ball was doing.

        • Inside them balls are all sorts of pebbles. I had a friend who studied bio balls and had some made to aid filtering in aquariums. In fact they had some measurable reduction but with filter media coming out of China at rock bottom prices his patent had little chance. Back to my shirts, them balls could actually deal with my sweat. But visible stains, well only detergent or as you mention mechanical extra wear force will get rid of them.
After watching relevant youtubes there are just minor gains from them balls, smelly towels is one of the very few things they actually had some effect.

  • Just chuck a brick in there.

  • Pseudoscience nonsense product.

Though if your Feng Shui in your laundry is correct these balls may make your clothes happier.

The balls can't speed up drying time as they do nothing to add more energy to the dryer to evaporate water.

On this forum we obey the laws of thermodynamics!

  • Possibly to reduce static
