  • Works in a subway, a lobby or a hall 👍

      Works in a subway

Note that in the Subway it only plays the ‘Eat Fresh’ jingle ad infinitum….

      • I'm in a doorway, singing doo wops to the wall.

  • New ones coming out soon

    • think I picked up my 3rd gen dot for $10, great device but I have it attached to an amp & speakers so not bothered with the sound quality from it's speaker. The 4th gen echo does provide good sound as I got one for my parents

      • same i got 2 3rd gens from 2 accounts and stereo grouped them lol. Definitely change up the eq they sound muddy as by default.

  • +4

My $10 echo dot 3 is more than sufficient.

Damn you got ripped off. I got my echo dot 3 for free. Also got a few Google Home mini's for free. How can others get one right now for $10 or free though? They can't, so your comment is moot.

      • +1

he has a point the 3rd gen dot is sufficient, the only reason I'd buy a 4th gen echo is as a standalone speaker for better sound quality than the smaller dot

        • -2

Just buy off marketplace then. I bought 4 dot 3's off one person for $30.

        • I dunno, I've seen teardowns where the speaker is the same, basically.

The dot 3 does what an alexa device needs to do, and anything else can be handled by the appropriate appliance i.e. AVR, TV, etc.

@BargainHunterJohnnyB: I think it's just the quality of the speaker as I have listened to them side by side & one sounds better

            • @Irishness: Not that I do much music listening on any echo device, but that's fair enough.

Sure the echo 8 is loud, but it does not sound like the audiophilish gear that I posses.

To those who are not initiated into audiophilia, the marginal improvement might mean something.

Title is wrong, it’s not the Echo, it’s the Echo Dot, far inferior.

    • +1

      fixed and good point

  • Not so much of a deal when you can get 2 x Echos and 1 Firestick 4K max for $199. That means each echo costs $60.

    • That means each echo costs $60

But this deal is for $39. What am I missing?

  • bought echo show & dot (not latest version) but both has to be power connected. wonder any of new model is with battery?

  • I got this email. Anyone think an Echo Dot 4th Gen is passable sound quality for a Bluetooth speaker? I was thinking about getting a Wonderboom, but this is obviously quite a bit cheaper.

    • +1

the echo dot is not portable in that it needs to powered where the wonderboom is chargable as it has an internal battery. The wonderboom will be better sound but if you don't need portability then consider the echo which is better sound quality than than the echo dot. If you go into Hardly Norman of JB HI-Five then you should be able to test them side by side

Just seen this "Get an Echo Dot 3rd Gen for $10 For a limited time, get an Echo Dot (3rd Gen) for just $10 (RRP $59)
Offer available to new Prime members who sign up before 10AM AEDT 7 November 2022"

I'm assuming it's likely available on a free 1 month prime trial for those who have never signed up before (or setup a new account)

  • I got the email but the code isn't working

    • I spent over 50 minutes on chat and still not fixed. They sent me an email and advise to pay full price then email them when the item is delivered and I will get a $40 refund
