I was shopping for CGMs (continuous glucose monitors), and noticed the reports from 1 year ago saying that Apple and FitBit were going to launch smartwatch models with embedded non invasive CGMs, so decided to check it out. Turns out Apple has been saying it's going to do this for over 5 years already, and the CGM wasn't included in the Series 7, nor is it in the Series 8 (from what I can tell). Then, simply searching for CGMs on AliExpress, I came across this gem. Highly suspicious, I know, but… still wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt, and looked for reviews. None found. Has anyone here (with better searching skills than I)? I'm dumbfounded no one has posted anything about it, even if to say it's fake.

Type-1 here. How is this even possible? I have CGM sensor which need to be inserted under the skin. I think this is BS.

    • It probably is BS in this case, but Apple has been saying it'll do this for at least 5 years. The explanation I saw was that it would be similar to O2 readings, with sensor light frequency calibrated to the size of the glucose molecule, instead of the oxygen one.

Do you use a CGM? Which one? Is it worth $200/mo for pre-type II, you reckon?

      • I use Medtronic 780G pump and Guardian Sensor 3. It’s def worth it for me as type-1.
You can take a look at FreeStyle Libre which works out cheaper I think.

        • Yes, that's what I was looking at, when I got distracted by the watch. It's A$95 per sensor—no?—which lasts 2 weeks, hence why I mentioned $200/mo.

(You mentioned the NDSS subsidy in pvt, but from what I read, it's only for type-1, and only for under 21s and adults with concession, right?)

          • @wisdomtooth: You've probably seen this but…

Apparently type II is reversible: https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/lifestyle/smart/dr-michael…

Hopefully you won't need to buy many sensors.

@reu: It sure is, @reu. Hence the point of getting the sensors (but a CGM watch for 1 week's worth of sensors would be fantastic!).

          • @wisdomtooth: You might be right. I thought it’s for all NDSS members. Yes, sensors are quite exy, I have been paying $250/month for the past 5 years. The subsidy started recently in July.
The other option is dexacom which is very expensive but I think they do trials. Worth giving them a call.

The reviewer (probably using google translate) posting at 29 Sep 2022 00:34 with photos of real test vs what the watch says for BP and BSL

    and
Its a scam watch . everything that display is fake and reflective of your actual health status. for example during my fasting period , my blood glucose spikes twice during the breakfast and lunch time ( i am fasting during those times ! ) . i have actually used cgm and this is a completely fake monitoring device and gives u an illusion that u are monitoring your health 25 Sep 2022 01:25
