Cheaper than the last deal which is over a month old.

There also seems to be a free smart bulb promotion if you buy "1 or more" not sure how that works though.

I have one of these. On top of the remotes list, it can learn any IR remote manually by programming all the buttons. Basically replaced most of my remotes. Airconditioner remote's screen faded so I replaced it with one of these. You could also replace a totally broken remote as long as it is in the Remote list. I don't know how to or have it set up for a smart home but have used the App to control devices for years it's been very reliable. Good value product.

Anybody know how this works with home assistant?

    • +5

I've got a BroadLink RM Mini 3, which I've got IR coded to my devices using the BroadLink app on my Pixel. I've also got the BroadLink app connected to my Google Assistant via the (Google) Home app, where BroadLink is an officially supported service under the 'Works with Google' section. With the Home app, I've set up custom phrases and routines to use with Google Assistant to control the devices my RM Mini 3 communicates with. Can't remember a time when it's ever failed on me, so I've got a pretty positive opinion on BroadLink's hardware and software reliability!

      • +6

fyi home assistant is an open source home automation software. Separate from google, alexa, apple etc home environments.

    • +1

It should do. I have the RM3 blackbean mini working with my HA setup to control led strip lights and the dumb air con I have.

    • just looked it up and some people have had success with this model

    • +5

Have 2 RM4 mini and 1 RM4 pro integrated with official broadlink HA integration. Also there are many other options on HACS.

Use them for controlling aircons via custom HACS aircon integrations called “SmartIR”.

It really depends what services and machines you want to control, but with SmartIR I actually extracted the codes (all temps, heat, cold, etc) from an old Lennox aircon that was not available as a template from other users.

In summary, you may need to put some effort in it, but most well known brands will be available via some HACS integration.

See here for official HA broadlink compatibility and options (but my goto was “SmartIR”): https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/broadlink/

      • What diff b/w this and rm4 pro?

    • +1

I bought a RM4C Mini from this deal. It is quite easy to set it up. I also combined it with home bridge . and now it can control my old Samsung TV via homekit easily. The steps I followed is here

    • It does work well with Home Assistant, but it can be a bit annoying to get set up.
The best video I've seen on the topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEOyTGaKwaQ

I'm using the RM Pro 3 and RM 3 mini for screen, soundbar and AC control and it works really nicely once you get everything configured.

  • Just to clarify is this the little round device plus you need to download a phone app or is it dumb to ask do you get a touch controller for manual control?

    • You'll need the BroadLink app on your phone, available for Android and iOS, which you'd use as the remote. See my reply to whitepuma's comment regarding linking it to Google Assistant (if you have and use Google Assistant-enabled devices), makes interacting with your IR devices heaps easier!

    • You need to use the App to set it up. So yes you need to download the App and sign up. There was a "google" and "apple" sign up option added last time I checked if that makes it any easier.

  • +1

Such a great device. I have replaced may remotes in my house with this very easy to make a house into a smart house with these.

    • Hijacking a high level comment to suggest calling your tv "Screen" or similar if you have a Firestick and Alexa. Amazon tries take the name "TV" for its own device and can cause conflict with the Broadlink app or take your commands for one room and execute them in another which has a Firestick.

  • +1

Is there a direction it needs to be in, or is the blast 360 degrees?

I want to control the projector and soundbar with this, but they are at different levels.

    • +1

It's 360 degrees, but it doesn't need to be plugged in to the TV or anything so you can have it across the loungeroom somewhere.

      • Does it need to be in the centre of the house? How long the range it? Like for example the aircon is 20 meters away, still ok?

        • Depends on the aircon and the angle. Mine struggled to reach my somewhat older Fujitsu from ~5 metres away possibly due to it being diagonally oriented to where the aircon was facing.

    • +3

If you search online you can find a teardown image of what it looks like inside.
It's LED's are arranged for 360 degrees plus "up".
The IR LED's are arranged in a circle and there is one is pointing up.

One thing you will notice though is the 360 circle of LED's are kind of pointing slightly upwards. So if you put it on top of a cabinet or shelf and need the IR to reach a low TV it might get a bit spotty. I recommend you place it at the same level or lower than the TV if you want things to improve. You can even place it on it's side if you think that's necessary.
If you only need it to control just the TV or just the AC you can put it directly in front of or below the unit and it will work. Putting it close to devices like this is a good option for reliable function. Because if you have have it across the room, a person standing in front of it can block the signal. Obviously this is not an issue with the device it's just how IR remotes work they need line of sight.

    • 360 aaaand the rm4 has a little clip that can be used to undermount it. Think like under the front side of a lamp table or a bookshelf. Almost invisible.

You can use your phone but add a skill to something like Alexa and get.liads of use out of it. Eg watching YouTube "Alexa turn on skip ad" or "Alexa mute screen" when taking a phone call.

  • +1

Thanks Op, I've been waiting for something like this.

  • +1

Any deal on the RM4Pro?, which has RF too.

    • +1

The RM4 Pro S is 20% off, not sure if that makes it a good price or not though.

      https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0872P4HX7/?coliid=IU5N1CXAZL7R…

    • I've converted from the RM4 Pro to the grid connect equivalent.

The RF transmitter in all 3 of the RM4 Pros I have is so pathetically weak that it struggles with electric blinds 1 room over (where the original remote works 100% of the time). I thought maybe I had a faulty one but got one for my parents house and a second one for me from a sake, but no dice.

The grid connect one isn't flawless, but has a much higher success rate. Also the tuya app have a nicer training process, albeit a little restrictive (allows 8 virtual remotes with 8 buttons each)

  • +6

Got one. Got the free bulb as well, just add to cart and discount applies at checkout

    • +3

as usual , the better deals is on the comments

  • Got one plus the lightbulb, was looking at this recently to add to a home assistant setup, thanks OP!

  • Thanks for mentioning the aircon cos that was gonna be my Q

    • Yeah most if not all Airconditioners are supported. I think that's one of it's main use devices the other being TV's.
Just some extra information. If you pick the AC brand or model from the remote list there are often 2 options, both kind of generic and slightly different in name.
From my experience one is the advanced remote where the remote knows what the AC is doing, the other is the dumb remote where it doesn't.

I found the AC I have works with both so I just used the advanced one since I think that's what the broken remote was because it displayed what the AC was doing on the remote screen.

      • Yeah sounds like mine, which is Mitsubishi Electric split systems, definitely shows all the info on the remote. Thanks for the info!

      • Can it support a Samsung ducted AC with a wall mounted remote?

        • +1

Sorry I have no idea. Maybe someone else can answer your question.
But if the remote is wall mounted it makes me think it's connected with a cable through the wall?

        • +2

My wall mounted controlled ducted aircon has an IR sensor on it so was able to use the RM4 Mini. Not sure if yours has the same.

  • Good luck adding it to Google Home. Mine sure never did.

    • I’ve had no issue with mine. Use it daily with Google Home.

    • I think sometimes you just have to be patient with the App instructions.

It's more common with these Chinese company apps, but sometimes they have important info in small text you can barely read and tick boxes you can easily miss. Maybe most people in SEA only have the largest screen phones or something.
Sometimes it might say "please wait 60 seconds before pressing next" really small or something and you can easily miss it.

I was patient with the basic setup and so it went pretty smoothly and quickly. I think I messed up just once with the 2nd one I bought and so I just did a hard reset as per instructions and got it right the 2nd time. Also if you don't know what something means just look it up on google while you are stuck on that step no need to rush it.

I kind of remember an important step along the way, I think something like "please disable mobile cellular data to ensure success at the next step" was written in small text. I think the mobile data messes with the direct WiFi connection between your phone and the Broadlink remote.

  • +14

You can also get the version with the Sensor Cable for $27.82. This allows you to automatically turn your device on or off depending on the temperature all within the app. I use it for the aircon regularly and works well. RM4 Mini with Sensor Cable

    • It even check the temp of the house on your phone then manually decide if you want to. It great value gear that works pretty consistently.

    • I didn't really get too advanced into the "smart" function side.

But I forgot to mention there are routines you can make to have multiple devices turn on and off at the same time. You can even fine tune delay between the remote commands if any of your devices get confused. Delay can also be used to switch to a specific TV channel or volume level after the TV is switched on for example.
After making routines you can create schedules to have the routines run at specific times of the day.

You can also control the devices in the App when you are away from home. But I guess that was already obvious.

All of this is done in the free App. No extra fees or subscription needed.

      • Yes. Routines or "press a series of buttons in a timed sequence" are great. For example I use "Alexa turn on YouTube" and the fetch box gets commands for enter, right, down, down, down, enter, pause for 25 ms , enter. That goes into menu then to YouTube pauses for sign in screen then clicks on my default profile.

Other uses are accross devices like "Bluray time" and maybe turning on amp, tv, setting tv input, setting amp output and turning on Blu-ray player and ejecting the tray waiting for you to put on a new disc.

    • So what’s the difference between this and the mode listed by OP?
This one has a sensor cable that detects temp/humidity? Is that the only difference? How accurate is it?

      • +3

yeah i think so. the model is the same RM4

      • Same emitter. One has an advanced charger cable with temp and humidity sensor on the cable.

All this wet weather if your apartment gets too humid you can set a routine to run the aircon for a while for example. Also check temp from anywhere with your phone and pre-cool the house on say a hot day if your aircon is IR remote.

  • +2

Not sure if this is useful but I've set up 'fav' aircon settings (temp, fan speeds etc) using the IR learning function then assigning voice commands in Google Home to trigger them.

  • +1

Not sure how this compares but I have the bond smart bridge and that works perfectly. Seems to be quite a bit more expensive though

    • What do you use your Bond Bridge for? I just got one for use with my Somfy RTS blinds. Works amazingly well, was super easy to setup & integrates seamlessly with Home Assistant.

      • Mainly just ceilings fans and my gate. I would love to turn them into smart blinds but I have vertical blinds and I can't seem to find a product for it

        • Cord pull? Tuya do a range of motors on AliExpress. Powered by cord, solar or chargeable battery . Beaded cords are easy.

Best thing I added to my windows. Tell the house to open up as I stumble to the coffee machine.

          • @Chiang: Nah more like a twisty pole thing. I just need something that twists haha. I'll check out the Tuya stuff to see if it suits, thanks

  • +3

Thanks, bought one! Been wanting to make my aircon a smart one. Wife loves leaving it on while we go to the beach "so the house is fresh when we come back" which is true, but it doesn't need to be wasting electricity until maybe 30 minutes before we arrive! This will help!

    • +1

      Perfect use.

I love using mine for this and the tv. Turning it on while cooking or muting or pausing for phone calls.

      • Tv tif another good use. Mine has an android tv box attached. I can use home assistant to turn off the tv box, but it still leaves the tv on which we have to manually turn off.

  • so, broadlink app - can i create a button which:
will turn on tv and soundbar at the same time, then for tv it will straight to pick input hmdi port no 1 (for gaming for example) ?
and another button for all the same but hdmi port 2,
etc - basically like create button on excel and have some macro on it.

and can i save this under my account (android phone), and install the same app on iphone for my mrs to access everything without setting up everthing all over again

    thanks.

    • I have mine set up to turn tv on, stereo on and then switch inputs. You can do lots more too and set different routines. I then set it up to be controlled via Google Home but can also press a button on my phone/watch to active routines. These are all saved in the account so can have it on multiple devices too.

    • +3

"will turn on tv and soundbar at the same time, then for tv it will straight to pick input hmdi port no 1 (for gaming for example) ?
and another button for all the same but hdmi port 2,
etc - basically like create button on excel and have some macro on it."

Yes you can do this. The "macro" is called a routine.

For your example the routine will look like this:
      Set routine name: GAMING Mode
1: TV remote - Power On
2: Soundbar remote - Power On
      3: TV remote - Input HDMI 1

      Set routine name: MOVIE Mode
1: TV remote - Power On
2: Soundbar remote - Power On
      3: TV remote - Input HDMI 2

Create another routine called ALL OFF with just "Power off" commands on both TV and soundbar. You will only need 1 of this routine because it does not need to control HDMI input.

If the TV does not respond to "Input HDMI 1" it means the command is too soon after "Power On" command. For some devices you need to add delay, otherwise the TV thinks you are pressing other remote buttons accidentally and ignore commands after the first pushed button. If you don't add any delays the commands happen very very quickly like less than 1 second to perform all 3 commands I wrote above.

So if that is the case you add delay to the routine like this:
      Routine name: GAMING Mode
1: TV remote - Power On
2: Soundbar remote - Power On
3: TV remote - Input HDMI 1 (in settings add 0.25~0.5 second delay after previous action)

"and can i save this under my account (android phone), and install the same app on iphone for my mrs to access everything without setting up everthing all over again"

Yes the remotes and routines etc are saved to the cloud. I set this up exactly like above on the phone. Then I installed the App on a tablet and logged in with the same account and everything is there ready to control.

Also you can create a "Virtual button" and then program it to trigger a routine. The "virtual button" can then be made to appear on the Broadlink App widget, making an easy one tap access without opening the App. You just create a separate Virtual button for each routine and give it the same name as each routine.

      • omg amazin.
by the way you may want to add to your post how to get free bulb, as someone above said, just add the bulb and at checkout the bulb become free

      • Great answer.

I have been singing the praises of these things for ages.

    • +1

Doesn't your TV and soundbar have HDMI-ARC? Life is so much more convenient when your soundbar behaves like it is the TV speaker, ie turns on and off with the TV and uses the TV volume settings for its volume

  • Can this schedule any aircon/heating unit to turn off and one, across multiple days?
Have a Switchbot mini, but couldn't work it out…

    • "Can this schedule any aircon/heating unit to turn off and one, across multiple days?"

      This can do schedules.
Any aircon heating? Maybe not every single one but it can control most airconditioners. For example someone commented above if it will control an airconditioner with wall mounted remote. I am not sure about that one.

      • It replicate the IR signal from any remote on the same frequency.

If the air con remote is IR and on the same frequency it will do it. Just need a line of sight.

The Pro will also do RF which some people like for garage doors (fixed code) cheaper smart plugs and similar.

Broadlink don't do a Bluetooth remote to my.knowledge.

        • +1

"It replicate the IR signal from any remote on the same frequency."

I don't think IR remotes use any frequency, that is just for wireless signal such as RF remote 433mhz.

IR remotes just sends "codes" with infrared light patterns maybe like this 000100010100011 = 209813.
Then each IR remote button press is a different specific code.
Here is an image I found regarding IR remotes on google https://media.hswstatic.com/eyJidWNrZXQiOiJjb250ZW50Lmhzd3N0…

In some rarer cases devices you are controlling can share codes. For example I remember having 2 Sony devices (1 TV and 1 DVD Player) and a specific button on TV remote can use the same unique code for "Power on". So only 1 "Power on" command was necessary to turn on both devices. It is optional though just in case you want to just switch on TV and not DVD player, then you just program the normal "Power on" TV remote button.

          • @harshbdmmaster718: Sorry you are correct. I was readimg accross posts and.muddled IR with RF.

There are different models.of the RF emmiting pro. Some do one.or another frequency and one does both. A bit of careful hunting.on AliExpress.will get he right one if you need both.

  • there is one similar product at kmart/target i cant remember, has good review..
    here
    https://www.kmart.com.au/product/mirabella-genio-wi-fi-smart…
damn $30 i thought cheaper than that

  • I have an old RM mini 3, but recently found out that I cant pair it with my Telstra gen 3 router wifi. I can still connect it to an old router I had. Is anyone having this problem? I suspect it has something to do with wifi security but i still could not find the real issue. I tried with 2.4ghz wifi.

    • +2

Likely only connects on the 2.4ghz band and needs to be separated from the 5 ghz wifi (ie: two separate wifi connections). I have some old power points that require a dedicated 2.4ghz. I just run them off a little GL.iNet router. Some devices dont handle the mesh or same access point well.

    • +1

I have mine connected to an older Orbi mesh system which broadcasts 2.4 and 5ghz. Never had an issue.
Even with router reboot and after internet outage the Broadlink's stay connected and working all year round I don't have to do a single thing. Can't say the same thing for my Google home mini and TP Link smart plug.

Some more info, I am not really a technical person so the Orbi is setup with it's default settings and it all just works like it should. I think sometimes certain WiFi issues can be caused by users making changes in advanced settings on the router.

    • +1

I got mine paired. Set the security to wpa2, maybe also set the channel width to 20mhz. Worked with band steering on too.

Edit: I had to do the alternative pairing mode and I actually use Home Assistant. Don't think it properly paired in the app

  • I had a RM3 before. Why are these still so "tall"? Not very mini at all.

    • This is a bit shorter than the 3 and has a little clip you can use to undermount it on the bottom edge of a shelf or window or something.

It's not much bigger than a squash ball.

    • It's pretty tiny like golf ball sized.

If you want it to be flat and sleek looking I guess you have to pay more for the "Pro" model.

  • I'd like to try it but home assistant has really been painful for me for years

  • So I already can control my air con, lights, TV through Google home.

Can also create macros with a smart remote app on my phone.

    Any added benefit for me?

    • +2

how to control your aircon? must be new model with wifi connection ?

then yeah no benefit for you. save $24 man… world is in recession now

    • +1

Probably not. This is more for adding those functions to old devices that don't have any smarts such as WiFi etc.

  • Another plus is that these have lots of good open source library support so if you know how to program you develop your own automated solutions without having to rely on the manufacturer's web servers that may disappear someday.

  • My BroadLink app seems to log me out on a regular basis, in between uses. Anyone else have this issue?

    App is on iOS

    • Same with android. I rarely use, but when i need to use it, i need to log in again, arrggg

  • Got free bulb too

  • Is the app IHC the same as broadlink app?

  • Can it use battery or does it have to be powered

    • Needs a USB A power source.

Old phone charger head or something that is always on and has a free USB port for example.

  • Looks like it's over? Says $34.99 now.

  • How do you get the above price?

  • Coming up as $34.99
Expired or am I missing something?

  • +4

It's expired, but the same one but with the sensor is still on sale for $27.82:

    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0872PPSGM/ref=sspa_dk_detail_2…

And this bulb is still free with it, just add both to cart:

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Broadlink-LB1-Dimmable-Automation-…

  • Shows up as $34.99 this morning.

  • +2

I am using the RM4 Pro and as with other models, it will need " line of sight " to work. So if you have this in the bedroom, it wont work for the living room or vice versa.

    • +2

Yes infra red is just a kind of light, really (right near visible light on the spectrum), so if there's no way for your AC/TV/Whatever to "see" light from this (or at least a reflection of it) it won't work. Just like a normal AC or TV remote.

    • Depends where you place it doesn't it?

If you have it shooting across the room, then yes anything blocking line of sight will cause a problem such as people standing around etc.

But you could have it setup much closer to the devices such as in a corner. I find it quite effective even if you place it roughly 90 degrees from the device you want it to control.

  • Got mine today, works well so far for my Mitsubishi heavy industries AC and synced with google home. Definitely worth it for $24.38 + free smart bulb
